Dd is dyspraxic and in the bottom set for pe so none of them are great at sports.

She has been playing rounders in PE in a group of girls.
One girl (not dd) has thrown the ball to the batter a bit too high and it has gone in the brambles. Dd was fielding so neither the thrower or the hitter.

They have tried to get the ball out of the brambles but been unable.
The pe teacher has insisted they get it out.
They haven't been able to reach it.

The pe teacher is now insisting the kids pay £2.50 each to replace the ball. Dd has got upset as she knows we are shit skint and I've just borrowed money for a trip and been told tough she has to find it.

If they had been being silly fair enough but the girls are fairly sensible and even if the thrower was being silly dd didn't even throw it!

I must admit I am feeling a bit pissed off at the teacher anyway who makes no reasonable adjustments for dds dyspraxia and moans at her and admits to others moaning at her and not stopping it because Dyspraxic dd takes too long to get dressed and moans at her for using the toilet in class (once in class today and not every class) when dd has a medical toilet pass in school.

It is also the only lesson dd has anything other than an excellent behaviour mark but the only bad thing she could say at parents evening was she was slow to get dressed. Hmm

So that may be clouding my judgement.

the teacher sounds like an idiot, when you play games balls get lots its just one of those things.
I suggest the PE teacher removes the brambles so it is easier to get the balls out because her suggestion of paying £2.50 is equally ridiculous

How expensive is the ball that they have to pay £2.50 each?! I would refuse to pay as its completely unreasonable for the teacher to demand that.

Erm... No, YANBU.

The PE teacher is repsonsible for ensuringthere is enough room to play any game... the PE teacher is supposed to be teaching them to like playing games... losing balls is something the PE teacher has a budget for... punishing kids for losing a ball is not what a PE teacher should be doing...

Contact HoY or PE dept head and ask politely:

"WTF is going on? Why is my DD being asked to contribute £2.50 to an item that a) costs £2 - 4 in total, brand new, b) was lost during the playing of a supervised game of rounders c) is part and parcel of playing sport in school... balls and things are consumables for godsake!"

What kind of ball was it that costs £2.50 per child to replace?
I would complain about the teacher and ensure I have paper trail of the complaint. She sounds like she needs training at best.

£2.50 each for a ball !?!? Whats it made from gold ? Hmm teacher needs kicking into shape sounds like an utter bully that secretly hates SN children it sounds like their encouraging other kids to give your DD a hard time too Angry

It was a proper rounders ball apparently...
Even if the kids had been being complete prats with the ball dd did not have the ball nor did she throw it. In fact there was no involvement other than she was in that group.

She told the teacher she was fielding and the suggestion was that she pay slightly less of the share Hmm

Balls get lost in pe surely...

Thank you for reassuring me that it isn't me! The only reason dd is still in this school is a place elsewhere for September fell through and I cannot home ed long term.

I flipping hate the place and am trying to get her out of there for reasons detailed on other posts

Have a word with the PE teacher and ask. Don't go in all guns blazing, go in on a fact finding misison. There may have been a missunderstanding potentially?

Proper rounders balls are £2.00 each on Amazon or £3.64 if you want a fancy one. Send the PE teacher a pair of secateurs instead.

A 'proper' ball is still no more than £10 - 12 and if they were in short supply should have been kept for Sunday Best - AKA a competition.

But that is STILL no excuse to try and charge kids for something tat happens a lot.. as I said, balls, baths, cones etc, they are all consumables, they all get lost or wrecked over a year.

This is definitely out of order. Go and enquire politely and calmly and then tell them to fuck off to the far side of fuck. I feel sorry for your daughter and her classmates this teacher doesn't seem to have any understanding at all about the role of a teacher.

This is absolutely ridiculous, of course you shouldn't pay it! I would write directly to the headteacher explaining exactly what happened according to your daughter, and why you won't be paying.

If the teacher's attitude is as described, then it'll do nothing to boost the confidence of a group of children who already find this subject difficult.

How ridiculous. She's hardly encouraging them to be good at sport if they are worrying about where the ball might go when they hit it.
