To ask you to share the worst examples of bad driving you have seen recently?

I have witnessed some truly spectacular examples of bad driving in the last week.

The worst by far was the car on the outside lane of the M3 who realised he was going to miss the junction he needed. So he stopped. In the outside lane. Then indicated left. Everyone had to stop to prevent a mass pile up so he very calmly just turned left and drove across all the lanes of traffic and then across the chevrons onto the slip road (where cars were still exiting at high speed). I truly hope that was caught on camera and he's hammered with points on his license!

On the same journey on a normal road (with a 60mph speed limit) a police car came up behind with blue lights on. All the cars on my side were slowing and pulling over (but not stopping) except the car in front which panicked at the last minute and just slammed the brakes on in the middle of the lane which caused the police car to have to drive on the other side of the road and everyone else to have to stop as well.

Some people shouldn't have a driving license!

Try Belgium.....some of the older drivers have never taken a test!

This morning. I had right of way going into a roundabout, and indeed had already entered it. A man on my left came careering into the roundabout at speed, narrowly missed me as I had to do an emergency stop and screamed out his window 'learn the fucking highway code, you cunt!'.

Notsure Wow! he sounds lovely! What a knob! It's times like that you think of a suitable come-back about 20 minutes later.

Driving through a beautiful little village near where I live. There is a big stately home in the village and there's was a festival going on this weekend on the estate. A man (I'm guessing mid-30's) pulled out of the gates of the stately home, right in front of me without even looking, pulled onto my side of the road, then swerved into the other side of the road, all whilst his indicators were having a crazy little flash party amongst themselves. Initially I thought he might have been a drunk/high festival goer....but then as we approached a little bridge, I realised that he must just be a very cautious/nervous driver instead! The word "slow" is painted on the road for a few hundred metres before the bridge. He slowed down to 15mph, obviously didn't drop down to an appropriate gear and stalled three times approaching the bridge Luckily, after the bridge, there is a big stretch of open, 60mph road where I could over take!
I have no time for nervous/overly-cautious drivers - I think they are more dangerous on the road than boy racers.

Not sure I agree with that, Mybreadiseggy. I used to work with a boy racer whose idea of a turn in the road was to slam the handbrake in and spin - none of this 3-point stuff!
Most people stop at a T junction to check the way is clear: he would simply stick his hand on the horn and come tearing out regardless. As witnessed by me many times on the way home from work.

Somebody edging their way around a 3 lane rather large roundabout the wrong way and causing mayhem in the process.

Last week on a roundabout with traffic lights.

We went to green two lanes of 3 cars went through, I saw a car approaching from my right on the roundabout whose lights were at red (we were still green) I knew he wasn't going to stop. How he managed to slip between two lanes of cars going across him I don't know. I truly believe he wondered why the cars on his left weren't giving way to him.

This morning on way to work some tit decided to overtake a huge waitrose lorry on a NSL road, only didn't speed up to overtake and for a good 30 seconds was driving on the wrong side of the road with limited vision (bends and hills on road). I was screaming 'SPEED UP!' and the lorry started desperately braking to help the car get in front of it! I was about three cars behind and we'd all slowed right down to under 30mph and stayed well back to make sure there was plenty of room behind the lorry for the car to pull back/in case something awful happened. Luckily it just managed to get in front before another car came roaring up the other side of the road.

Same road a few weeks ago saw three cars in a tight row overtake a cyclist on the opposite side of the road without giving him any room, like he just wasn't there. I was approaching them and no other cars behind me so they need only have waited a few seconds and all could have passed safely. Lucky my spidey senses were on and I slowed right down to a crawl because the fourth car decided he would give the cyclist some room and drove onto my side of the road right in front of me without looking, had I not slowed down in good time it would have been a head on crash. Or he would have pulled back right into the cyclist. He still only just missed me.

I didn't see it myself but someone took a picture of a change to a junction near us and posted it in a local Facebook group. It has been made left turn only so people have to turn left, go a few yards down to a roundabout, and come back. Someone decided to go on the wrong side of the road and turn right regardless. Sigh.

I frequently see bad driving when I am cycling. People overtaking when there are oncoming cars or blind corners. And when people won't overtake when it's dangerous, they hoot their horn at them!

Not indicating at roundabouts (or at all) is my biggest hate. And drivers not giving way to pedestrians at side roads.

While I was waiting at traffic lights the other day – someone coming the other day was holding their bright green phone just above the steering wheel and texting/internetting/whatever WHILST DRIVING . Eyes fully on the phone and no-where near the road.

There really needs to be a crackdown on people who fiddle with their phones while driving.

The worst thing I've seen recently is something I did; I had both DCs in the car on the way home from judo. At the bottom of our road is a mini roundabout to turn into our street. I had been up since 4am with DS1 having a migraine, so can only blame excessive tiredness for my stupidity but I swung up to the roundabout, pulled straight to the right in front of a car approaching the other way and I hadn't even indicated to let them know I'd be turning. Fortunately the driver had seen me slow down and braked, but without him being so switched on he'd have gone straight into me, no question, on DS1's side, and it would have been entirely my fault. I have never grovelled so much in my life, and thankfully he was lovely and more concerned that the DCs were ok than by this fuckwit woman who almost took out his car.

If someone did that to me I'd be fucking furious. It's a shitty bit of humble pie to know I pulled such a stupid stunt, and I consider myself to be a pretty good driver most of the time.

Idiot driver overtook me (cycling) at serious speed on a narrow 20-limit road, realised car coming the other way, slammed on brakes and swerved right back in front of me with about three inches of clearance. Managed to emergency brake just in time to avoid slamming into him, but still shaken up about it.

Runner-up prize to the muppet yesterday who drove straight through a pedestrian crossing when the stop-start traffic ahead , oblivious to red light + marked crossing + pedestrians she nearly hit.

I've been cut up 3 times recently. Once in a roundabout, at speed.

The scariest was ona. Dual carriageway when's lorry started indicating to come
into the overtaking lane- which we were in. We were in a queue of cars overtaking the lorry and were about halfway along its trailer when it started indicating. As soon as the indicators came on, the lorry started to move into our lane. DH ended up driving half onto the grass of the central reservation whilst all the cars behind us leaned on their horns to warn the driver. Lorry pulled back just in time.

We pulled off at the next services as were both quite shaken up!

A woman driving straight at me on my side of the road - she had pulled over onto my side to go to the shop that's there, but she didn't give me a lot of warning or time to react. Why do some people seem to think driving on the proper side is optional?

Had a bloke in a wee Polo reversing straight at me once, too. He'd missed the exit he wanted so obviously the logical choice was to reverse around to it!

As for taking the licence of these people, I strongly suspect many of the people I see doing really odd things don't have a driving licence.

For me today it is the tw@t of a motorbike who decided he was fed up to wait behind me at the roundabout and decided to undertake me whilst scratching a big chunk of my paintwork in the process before driving off.

I am very often undertaken. Have car accelerating when I overtake them. Have cars pull in front of me without warning or indicator because they have decided they would pass. I won't even mention the tailgaters!!! Sometimes I feel like I am a little snake in slitherio

No bad driving but terrifying cycling.

A couple of years ago my DH and I were driving home along the narrow, windy country lanes near our home. They don't have any vision ahead because of high hedgerows. Suddenly, in our lane ( no pavements around here) cycling towards us was a child on a small bike with an male adult behind on his bike with a child pillion, on a bike seat. It was terrifying. How we missed them, I don't know. This road is national speed limit, though DH was only travelling at about 40 mph.

Riding this lunch time on inside of two lanes - outside lane has a rubbish truck slowing and signalling to turn right - knob in car driving behind chooses to under-take the lorry which effectively meant risking my life as he takes all of my space as he changes lane into mine. Only bike-handling skills and road awareness saved an ugly incident. Wanker had nooo idea what he had done.
Stuff like that happens say monthly? But lower level car shit moreoften.

We all do stupid things from time to time, but key is how quickly you react to it.

Yesterday, my partner turned right not noticing the great big Range Rover coming from the left. First time I've seen her do that in 5 years: she sped up v. quickly, and I did mouth SORRY. It's the people that do this sort of stuff often without being contrite which is worrying.

Those who don't indicate at roundabouts: why? I am not telepathic. Yes, I look at your wheels too, but not indicating means I'm sat there like a lemon with an irate driver behind me because I thought you'd be going past.

Saw someone do a U-turn on the A64. Why? The next roundabout is only yards up the road to turn around.

Saw a lorry suddenly stop going off the A64 slipway to the M1. It then reversed, did some sort of 3-point turn, and carried on up the A64. Why not continue onto the motorway and turn around at the next junction like a normal person?

M6. Just outside Birmingham going North. Busy as hell. Pouring with rain- as it always seems to be there. I'm in the outside lane keeping a couple of car lengths behind the car in front because conditions were atrocious but keeping pace. Idiot man in the sooped up jalopy behind me starts flashing his lights. Undertakes me and then slams on its brakes. I ended up nearly doing an emergency stop. The car behind me luckily managed the same. And then the guy speeds off but surprise surprise within 15 secs hits the same traffic as I was behind and I end up following him for the next 5 miles until the traffic eased. Fuck knows what happened behind me. . I was really shaken by that. That someone could nearly cause a horrible multiple pile up just because he couldn't bear the fact I'd left a safe distance between me and the car in front.

Car towing a caravan coming towards me on the other side of the road, decides to overtake a cyclist, forgets they are towing a wide caravan so no room for my car! Missed by about 1mm

The best one I have ever heard of was told to me by my driving instructor - he was nearly hit by someone reversing back up a motorway slip road. Eeek!
I used to drive a pink car. I liked my car, but I got cut up, refused my right of way and generally treated badly on the road. Dh didn't believe me until he had to drive my car and found himself face to face with a crazy woman one day.
There were parked cars all down her side of the road, she should have waited till dh was past. She did not, she tried to bully through and there was not room. Dh said she sat bibbing her horn and gesticulating until he stuck his head out of the car to tell her to move. Dh looks very scary when he's cross. She backed up again.
Recently - was driving with my Mum on the motorway. Pulled into lane 2 to pass a long line of lorries, four or five I think. Wasn't enough of a gap to pull back in between them. A complete pillock in a sports car undertook us. When he swerved back out in front of us I think he missed us by a matter of inches. Terrifying.
I pulled back into lane 1 after I'd passed the lorries and refused to come out the rest of the trip, even though it meant doing about 50.

I watched a woman actually reading a novel as she crawled through traffic a few weeks ago! She wasn't even stationary at any point (not that that would be acceptable).
