To wonder how anyone gets their washing dry in this weather?

Boring subject so sorry! But I am genuinely wondering. I did a load about two days ago and I've just had to redo it as it wasn't drying and was starting to smell musty. I have a tumble dryer but it can't be used on everything. The heating is on full blast and it still isn't drying! When it's a nice sunny day I can all my washing including bedding done all in the same day.

Diamogs- mine costs £100 iirc, that's fine by me not to have to ironGrin

AnnieOnAMapleLeaf · 01/06/2016 18:39

This is one element of living in the UK that constantly flummoxed me. My MIL was obsessed with pegging everything out and was shocked when DH and I bought a tumble dryer and proceeded to tumble dry EVERYTHING.

I don't understand the issue OP - just bung it in the dryer, on low if necessary.

BuggertheTabloids · 01/06/2016 18:42

I tumble dry everything I can whatever the weather. Have solar panels so doesn't cost anything if it's sunny. Everything else goes on clothes horse in the airing cupboard so dries fairly quickly.

specialsubject · 01/06/2016 18:45

Using a dryer when the weather is good and you have a line is a big two fingers up to the next generation.

When the UK starts power shortages (soon) you will understrsnd.

ExcuseMyEyebrows · 01/06/2016 18:52

My tumble dryer seems to have only one setting - burning hot. It's a condenser dryer but makes the house extremely humid so I don't use it very much.

I love my dehumidifier though, two loads of washing will be almost dry overnight.

I really can't be arsed hanging washing outside, last time I did the neighbours had the stinkiest bonfire and everything had to be rewashed Angry

ExcuseMyEyebrows · 01/06/2016 18:54

Those of you who have dryers with warm/cool/gentle settings, what make are they please?

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 01/06/2016 18:55

I have a Miele it even has an ironing setting, bloody LOVE it!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeG0es · 01/06/2016 18:59

Mine's an AEG, about 12 years old but going strong, vented. Settings for sensor or timed and lots of different ones for different types of load. It's brilliant.

I've got 2 heated airers from Lakeland. I've got 5 dc and one of them regularly wets the bed so I wash as much as I can on sunny days to get the best use of the washing line as well.

Donatellalymanmoss · 01/06/2016 19:02

It's been wall to wall sunshine where I live since late last week, I read your post title and thought you were taking the piss! How have you never come across this problem before?

MewlingQuim · 01/06/2016 19:05

I have no room for a tumble drier and a north facing garden so I hang my clothes on an airer in the upstairs hallway whatever the weather outside. It always dries overnight.

I always have windows cracked open but I think having the airer upstairs makes a lot of difference, if I put the airer downstairs it takes ages to dry.

A friend has one of those victorian racks that hang from the ceiling suspended above her stairwell, I think that is a brilliant place to hang washing as it is out the way and where a lot of air circulates.

Isthereeverarightime1 · 01/06/2016 19:15

Heated airer from Lakeland when cold and wet

Donatellalymanmoss · 01/06/2016 19:18

heavensplace that article is very funny.

Loulou2kent · 01/06/2016 19:24

Everything that can be tumbled gets tumbled all year round. I have a south facing garden with plenty of sun...but....nothing ever seems to dry nice or stay smelling nice. Plus me & DS both get hayfever so it stops the pollen getting on our clothes & I love my towels to be fluffy. Really struggle with line drying stuff. If it can't be tumbled it goes on rads if thick or on airer in conservatory. When it's sunny it gets so hot in there. It dries instantly! Smile

P1nkP0ppy · 01/06/2016 19:31

Line dried as much as possible or tumble dried. Only odd bits go on the clothes rack to dry if it's raining like some walking gear that can't be tumble dried.

skivvywoman · 01/06/2016 19:37

Gorgeous day here today!

In the winter if it's dry with a breeze I will hang out
When it's wet I hang up on clothes horse and tumble dry underwear and socks if there's loads if not i put over radiator
Following day if it's dry great if not I tumble dry light stuff and hang up on another clothes horse in my room

MeAndTheMajor · 01/06/2016 19:46

This has been dream pegging out week in the balmy NW! I've managed two or three line dried loads most days. However, this is not the norm and I must admit I've felt quite smug looking at the all the despairing weather related posts from southerners on instagram!

I line dry as much as possible but realistically don't get much out between Oct - Feb. During the winter, I tumble dry as much as I can and the rest gets bunged on a maiden in a room with the dehumidifier on full whack.

HesterBlue · 01/06/2016 19:50

Lakeland heated airer - best £100 I ever spent! I don't need the heating on to dry washing and I hardly ever use a tumble dryer any more so I reckon its paid for itself by now as I've used it every day since I bought it. It doesn't dry a full wash so I wait for a dry day to wash bedding (to line dry outside) but I can wash and dry a 2/3rds clothes wash every day. Can't recommend it enough! (and no I don't work for them..)

dementedpixie · 01/06/2016 19:51

It's been beautiful in Scotland the last few days. I have shorts on today! Have had washing out every day too which makes a change from having to dry stuff indoors

frikadela01 · 01/06/2016 19:52

I've had my things on the line all day and they're still damp so will be going in the tumble dryer.

West Yorkshire here and it's fucking freezing. Apparently today was the same temperature as January.

lapsedorienteerer · 01/06/2016 19:54

Don't have a tumble drier. Everything goes on clothes horse (outside if weather dry) or airing cupboard. Majority dries overnight, house not damp (and no heating on at present).

ConcernedParent88 · 01/06/2016 19:55

We've now got a knackered old solid fuel Rayburn (already installed in our new to us home) with a hoistable clothes rack in front and above it. It dries one load of washing perfectly in 24 hours. It's bloomin marvelous!

queenMab99 · 01/06/2016 19:56

I have a covered area, a sort of pergola with corrugated perspex roof, which is really for outdoor eating/barbeques but is very useful for drying washing, and granchildren playing in sand tray, even when the weather is showery.

Jbck · 01/06/2016 19:57

Ive run out of washing but my ironing is gigantic! Sun still splittng the trees Grin
Usually if the heatings on drying frames are up if I can't dry outside, window open in the bathroom where they are, dry in a few hours or less.
