queen's birthday party at school

my son's school is having a party for the queen's birthday. The children have to make bunting with a picture they have drawn themselves of something to do with the queen - a corgi say, or a crown.

I'm debating whether our picture should feature a flea or a hookworm...

I am not a fan of the royal family at all but I planned and hosted a royal celebration at work because I work with children and the day wasn't about me or my views

Because it doesn't seem like it it many ways. Celebrating a pampered family who have inherited vast wealth whilst others are sleeping on the streets is grotesque.

What if it was celebrations for ISIS/ISIL/whatever they're called now? Would you still plan and host a celebration because the day wasn't about you or your views?

I just do not understand the increasingly royalist tendencies of the nation, alongside increasing poverty and inequality. It must be one of those odd psychological paradoxes - the poorer people are the more they scrape and bow to those they are encouraged to think of as superior.

We were invited to a jubilee party, despite being anti royal we love a party. Got some punk God Save The Queen (iconic Sex Pistols image complete with safety pins) iron transfers from eBay. Put them on white vests. Gave both 5 year old mochicans via lots of hair and wash out spray colour. We had masses of laughs and compliments. A few tutts but ain't there always. Print out the sex pistols logo for bunting. Kids will be none the wiser but you stake your pitch with adults

Going for corgi theme as well - everyone in our village hates me anyway (incomer, non-Church, anti-Royal, don't drink), so I could either make that even worse or just concentrate on dogs . . .

I'm not actually anti Royal, I don't mind them as long as they behave themselves. I have no desire to bake Queenie cupcakes though.

Monarchism in schools is just state propaganda to me - get them young, then hopefully when they grow up they won't question it. I agree with Once. Just because something happens to be the dominant ideology, doesn't mean you can't question or challenge it. All the more reason to, in fact.

I'm an anti-royalist and I would be about the birthday party but I probably couldn't be bothered doing anything about it. I'd let the DC choose what they wanted to draw but I wouldn't be disappointed if they choose something controversial.

I don't understand the fawning over people who are only important because of being 'Royal'. I prefer democratically elected leaders.

A bit of a side note (I'm not British), but what will the UK's new name be if it abolishes the monarchy?
