Am I the only person who thinks the concept of Mrs M&S is bollocks and finds the whole idea crap?

PurpleDaisies · 25/05/2016 22:28

I've never heard of it-what is it?

Rainatnight · 25/05/2016 22:30

Ugh, I just saw this on the news and found it unbelievably patronising. It's like M&S have a death wish.

boys3 · 25/05/2016 22:30

no. Just saw the clip on the beeb news. Stomach churning is one of the kinder descriptions I can think of.

Chippednailvarnishing · 25/05/2016 22:31

It's who the new boss of M&S is intending to aim at www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-36380151

It just makes me cringe, what they are aiming shouldn't be a goal, it should be fundamental part of their business...

Topseyt · 25/05/2016 22:33

Heard it on the news just now. Twatty and patronising.

PurpleDaisies · 25/05/2016 22:34

Thanks for the link-it's a dreadful idea.

PippaFawcett · 25/05/2016 22:35

I think it sums up what is wrong with M&S.

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 25/05/2016 22:37

Eww. An own goal methinks.

ReggaeShark · 25/05/2016 22:37

Heard this today. Yuck. Are we in the 1950s? Patronising twerp. I give him 6 months.

RaeSkywalker · 25/05/2016 22:38

Why on Earth are they using rubbishy marketing language as a PR tool? This cringey stuff should stay in M&S meeting rooms, not in the press. It's ok to have a shorthand term for your key customers, but you don't need to publicise it- and actually 'Mrs M&S' in itself indicates that they don't 'get' their target market at all.

Randomposter · 25/05/2016 22:38

When I was young, M&S was always for the older, unfashionable. women, I don't think their image has ever really changed.

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 25/05/2016 22:38

We need to cherish and celebrate her and make sure we're giving her exactly what she needs at the right time."

Tad, suggestive Blush

PippaFawcett · 25/05/2016 22:38

And another bugbear of mine - Mrs M&S can be a 'working mum'.

Don't describe me as a 'working mum' until you describe men as 'working dads'.

MadameCholetsDirtySecret · 25/05/2016 22:40

Apparently Mrs (🙄) M&S is 50.

Well I'm 50 and I don't shop there at all. I shop at All Saints, Zara, Net a Porter, Cos and similar. I can't imagine what they could ever do to encourage me to spend any money there at all.

Oh yes, that pie crust dress was perhaps the most hideous thing I have ever seen.

Topseyt · 25/05/2016 22:41

I note that there is no mention of Mr. M&S.

Ludways · 25/05/2016 22:44

Oh shit, I'm 49 and bought a shirt there last week, I bloody love it. I'm on a slippery slope to old age!!!

Chippednailvarnishing · 25/05/2016 22:45

Good job M&S's target audience are a bunch of unsophisticated women, who have little part time jobs, no financial independence and absolutely no other high street options.

Oh wait...

OP posts:
LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 25/05/2016 22:45

I note that there is no mention of Mr. M&S.
He's stereotypically sitting outside the dressing room holding the bags. Obviously. Wink

He hands over the money for Mrs M&S to spend if home cooked dinners are on the table when he gets home from work where he is an employee not a 'working dad'.

StickTheDMWhereTheSunDontShine · 25/05/2016 22:47

Mr M&S is over there, in his green V-neck sweater, sitting patiently by the lift.

Chippednailvarnishing · 25/05/2016 22:53

Why so M&S find it so hard to get it right?

OP posts:
Topseyt · 25/05/2016 22:57

Lois, yes, he is. Tutting loudly from time to time as Mrs. M&S tries on yet another item and asks him "does my bum look big in this?"

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeG0es · 25/05/2016 23:01

I refuse to be known as Mrs DHsurname so I'm certainly not going to be lining up to become Mrs M&S even though I am nearly old enough. Heard this being discussed on 5Live earlier and had to check it wasn't the 1st April.
