AIBU?

to not have pjs for DS?

I recently saw a reference to an old thread about a mum who put the kids to ben in next day clothes and it was thought of as weird to say the least.
So I've been thinking if I'm weird too
DS 3.5 doesn't own any pyjamas, in the evening he has his bath then puts on clean underwear and t shirt and goes to bed. Then in the morning there is no need to change, just add some shorts or trousers and he's ready to go.
I never thought of it as odd, is it? Am i depriving him of something?

My kids like hanging around in pjs - before bed or in the morning -

Yes they get their breakfast down them - so they do need clean ones

Do you just get up and get dressed straight away? Or undress just before bed?

I get into pjs and so does DS. Then the next day we put clothes on.

The pjs can be worn another night though, I don't only wear them once.

Sleeping in a top and wearing the next day just seems incredibly weird though.

DS17 now sleeps in clean boxers then changes for fresh in morning so two pairs a day. DD11 fresh nightwear every night, changes undies twice a day. Sleeping in a top/undies and making him wear them the next day is not nice, what will you do when he's wearing school shirts?

This had brought back memorys, I'm sure as a child I knew someone wjo told me they went to bed like this. Its odd but not the crime of the century to be fair.

My son has new pjs every night but he is only 22 months. I also have clean pyjamas everynight with no knickers but I do occasionaly stay in them during the day if ds or me are ill Hmm.

My DD has a bath every night, puts on clean pjs and knickers. She wakes up in the morning and I get her dressed before breakfast including clean knickers. She wears the same nightdress for 2 nights and then gets washed.

I change ds1s (3) pants every morning and evening. but he keeps the same vest on for 2 days and he sleeps in it. He doesn't bath everyday either (he hates them) so has a flannel wash daily. He has a clean vest every other day. I do put pyjamas on him over the top. They usually go 1-2 nights before getting dirty.

OP - YANBU or skanky. You're perfectly fine, as I'm sure your son is.

OP YANBU.
You lot are all weird...

I always keep the same pair of knickers on for 24 hours...put them on in the evening after a shower and keep on till next evening, changing pyjamas every week.

I grew up with a fastidiously cleanly mother so I know my standards are ok (I always have a shower daily even if it has to be cold water or camping etc and I know plenty of people miss them out if not convenient).

DP often wears a T shirt day and night before changing it. Previous DPs have often worn pants for 48 hours. None have ever smelled. Perhaps smelly/sweaty people need to change things more often.

Do you all take 14 pairs of pants for a 1 week holiday then?

Very bad for the planet all this excessive laundry!

Yes sorry but YABU and yes our 5DC all have clean PJ's every night, just like me and they're dad do.

The oldest two DS20 and DS17 wear lounge pants or PJ shorts, they very rarely wear tops in bed but they always put clean on every night.

Underwear on for a whole night OP and then the next day isn't good imho.

New clothes in the morning is essential, surely?

My DD has clean pyjamas every night - she has a gorgeous selection, and picks out fresh ones each evening. I like having clean pyjamas, it's cosy and comfortable - so I do the same for DD. I would never have her leave the house in a top she has slept in, it just wouldn't feel nice and fresh would it? 😟

Clean and smart, that's not excessive or being obsessed with being 'sterile'!

I have a friend who does this - her kids sleep in their school uniform ready for school the next day.

I find it a bit strange as I love PJs but I've never thought of it as unclean - I agree with you that slept in clothes still feel fairly clean to me in the morning. I admit I have sometimes kept on the clothes I slept in the next day and DP definitely doesn't change out of his boxers in the morning. He puts on clean before bed and wears them 24 hours until he showers in the evening. We don't do morning showers in our house - no time!

Occasionally ds1 sleeps in his day clothes (always after a particularly bad or good day) and only twice has he insisted on wearing them again for the next day and night . He has only slept in shoes once tho. Shock

You don't have to by PJs. DS sleeps in a vest and PJ trousers or baggy shorts but clean clothes the next day are a must.

Clean clothes + underwear every night & every morning at my home. Zero repeats. From the DH to the 18 month old & everyone in between. Even if we don't sweat, the skin sheds it's cells continuously, so clothes that you wear to bed are dirty, whether or not they smell sweaty. 12 hours of wearing anything renders it unrepeatable!

In Victorian times apparently women used to often wear nightgowns all day with a dressing gown over - was quite acceptable to entertain visitors etc

In earlier times you slept in your shift for weeks at a time

Kids used to be sewn into their undies for the winter

How customs change

YANBU at all. I don't accept that it sets him up for bad habits- bodies change, and the time will come soon enough that he'll need new shirts all the time. In the meantime, he is not unclean.
I accept that this is not the accepted view here on MN, but I am a hippy who actually thinks that changing sheets/pyjamas every night is a pretty crap environmental habit to get into.

Agree with the above. At 3 I could have worn clothes for 5 days straight and probably wouldn't have smelt! I don't get what all the fuss about about tbh.. Hmm

Perhaps this is the way to stop all those grownups wearing their PJs on the school run or to the supermarket - head teachers could advise them all to dress the night before Grin

DD sleeps in knickers by choice. She has PJs though.

I have been known to put them to bed in the clothes they have worn that day but only if they are knackered and already asleep...then in morning I bath them and change clothes. Wouldn't leave them in something they had slept in...

I'm sure it's not good to wear pants all day and all night. Your bits need fresh air! I wouldn't put DD in pants for bed.

No PJs here for any of us (hot country) and ewwwwwwww at the thought of wearing pants to bed. We change our bedsheets once, sometimes twice a week.
