In wondering what the point in a nursery is?

Baby will sleep with us for first 6 months- so what is the point in getting nursery all decorated and sorted before they arrive?

I have found lots of boys decor and lots of girls that I like. But nothing gender neutral. So I'm swaying between finding out the sex so we can get organised, or not decorating the nursery/child bedroom until they are born and I can choose something I really love.

AIBU? Do I really need a nursery that is all ready for baby's arrival?

I know it's the advice, Goat, but at the time I just wanted to be able to sleep! Not really a pain going into his room to feed him, it meant we could take turns without disturbing each other too much.

Yes I know lots of people say they slept better with the baby in their own room. Sleep deprivation is awful so you have to do what works for you.

The 6 month in same room has been around for years. Prob 20-30 years

Didn't bother. Moved the desk out, put a tall bookcase in, bought a wardrobe with drawers and my dad sanded and repainted the vintage family cot. DD went in there at about 10 months. She went into a single bed at 18 months so I painted the walls and fitted a new blind before it arrived. It's a proper full size bed and wardrobe so should let her well into her teens. I didn't want nursing chairs and changing units that would just need getting rid of down the line. No toddler bed or cot bed. Worked really well.

We were in a 2 bed when dd was born and kept the 'spare room' as it was so we could have guests while she was still in with us. It worked really well. Meant that if it got too much for either of us and we wanted to escape for some baby free sleep between wakings we could. It also meant I had somewhere to kick DH out to when snoring!
