To hate it when people refer to dc as 'sexy'

Recently I went to a party and a guest posted a picture of their child with the hosts child along with some pictures of other kids including my dd on Facebook so I got tagged. Lots of this woman's family were talking about her boy as 'gorgeous' and 'so sexy'. Obviously this is none of my business what they write but it is not the first time I've seen this. I just think it's really inappropriate to describe a child as sexy. Does this annoy anyone else or AIBU?

Imagine if a dad called his young DD 'sexy' on Facebook - THAT'S how wrong it is. I have seen this frequently (nothing sinister actually in those cases just complete and utter morons for dads who couldn't see what was wrong with it - and actually the same men that constantly call their grown up DPs Baby or Babe but refer to their baby daughters as "my gorgeous sexy...") but YADDDDNBU

beccabanana · 19/05/2016 17:38

I don't like it either - my MIL calls my babies 'saucy' like 'who's a saucy girl'. Don't know if it means anything different down south where she lives, but I think of saucy as 'sexy'

VioletVaccine · 19/05/2016 17:43

YANBU.

I have an old friend on FB who refers to her DS(4) online as her "Sexy Boi" Confused Hmm

eyebrowsonfleek · 19/05/2016 17:45

Disgusting to call a 3 year old sexy.

I wondered about age because it must be strange to be Brad Pitt's mother for instance and hear about how sexy he is.

Anyway, there's a Donald Trump anecdote that I've read quite a few times where he asked other males if they found his daughter Ivanka (who was a teen at the time) sexy. He's commented publicly that if she wasn't his daughter he would date her. [vomit emoji]

Children (under sixteen) are not/should not be referred to as 'sexy'. After that, only if its appropriate ie in context and not in an abusive or intrusive way.

I have an adult dd. If I told her she looked 'sexy' I would be giving her information so she could be satisfied with or adjust the way she looked. I don't go around telling other people she's 'sexy'. That would be weird. I often tell people that she's exceptionally beautiful. Grin

squoosh · 19/05/2016 18:00

'saucy' can mean cheeky too so not just 'ooh err missus'!

PissOffJournalists · 19/05/2016 18:02

YANBU. I knew a woman who would call her cat (not a euphemism!) sexy and I thought that was weird. I see upthread that someone called their dog sexy as well.

missbishi · 19/05/2016 18:12

becca, I think "saucy" does mean cheeky down South, makes me think of Del Boy.

WellieWanger · 19/05/2016 18:12

It's fucking awful.

SoulSoSeptimus · 19/05/2016 18:14

You are the one giving the word the negative meaning. Smh.

bluebelle2662 · 19/05/2016 18:19

Ugh... Do people do his? How vile!

Unicorn1981 · 19/05/2016 18:23

It's not negative meaning. The word is sex-y. What other meaning can there be. And it isn't negative it's just not appropriate for children or animals!

It's revolting and generally speaking those that say it are none too bright,

gunsandbanjos · 19/05/2016 18:33

Who does this😳😳 wrong, wrong, wrong.

Babyroobs · 19/05/2016 18:36

YANBU. I really dislike this too.

Babyroobs · 19/05/2016 18:38

I have friends who used to refer to their child as ' our little stud muffin'. I thought that was weird, he was very young maybe 4 or 5 at the time.

beccabanana · 19/05/2016 18:50

I thought it might be a cockney thing as I'd never heard anyone refer to a baby as saucy before!

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 19/05/2016 18:52

ERM yeah ! You need not even ask !!!

BillBrysonsBeard · 19/05/2016 18:55

That's gross and I'm not easily disturbed...

Asprilla11 · 19/05/2016 18:55

I too think this sounds stupid, however I think in defence of people who have said such things, I think they probably mean 'Very Smart', 'Pretty' etc but for some reason the stupid 'Sexy' word comes out.

KittensandKnitting · 19/05/2016 19:25

Soul It literally means sexual attractive or exciting....

100% not suitable for children and animals! Who calls their pet sexy people who marry them maybe not me

Saucy can mean cheeky it does down these parts but not used so often these days.

Yuck who does this!!

StubblyLegs · 19/05/2016 19:29

YANBU at all. 'Sexy' being used to describe children has been creeping into our vernacular for a long time now and I'm surprised it's lasted as long as it has to be honest, but it obviously because there are many thick people perpetuating it's use in such an abhorrent way.

It should only ever be used to describe adults, well over 18 years old, or inanimate objects e.g. cars etc. Even then though, I can't think of a single instance in which I've used it in that context.

It is, however, perfectly acceptable to use it in the same sentence as 'Daniel Craig' and 'Bond'. Wink

Helmetbymidnight · 19/05/2016 19:33

Roobs, I also knew someone who would greet her reception child with " hi stud"...
That's a lot of pressure on a v small boy...

TheNaze73 · 19/05/2016 19:34

YANBU, it's cringey

Chinks123 · 19/05/2016 19:38

I have a girl who put a picture of her baby boy on Facebook captioned "My sexy little man" Confused YANBU I think it's very odd.
