AIBU?

to be freaked out? Random drawings posted through my door

First time I have posted on AIBU...

Just got home from a week away to find several photocopied drawings of random images posted through my door in a plastic transparent wallet.

No note. No writing on them. DH away for work and I'm alone freaking out with my 4 month old. Thought they might be advertising but too random and no message.

They look like adult's drawings and they are of the following

Plane
Woman
Truck
Spaceship
Parrot

Any ideas?

For goodness sakes, some people have really over active imaginations.

Right at the top of the thread was the most plausible explanation - A-level art work which was dropped and posted through the nearest door but oh no, that's not good enough and the OP works herself into a frenzy and considers calling 101, then makes statements about not sleeping and being murdered in her bed.

OVER PHOTOCOPIES OF COURSEWORK. Get a grip people!

Just think yourself lucky that you didn't get the plane ine BEFORE you went on holiday. misses the point entirely

I think someone dropped them, probably an art student and whoever picked them up posted them through the nearest door, hoping they lived there.

Christ Luna grab yourself a sense of humor. I clearly did not think I was going to be murdered and neither did I work myself into a 'frenzy'

Just a bit weird as I said and when you're alone in the house with a baby I think you can feel a bit vulnerable.

It's certainly a bit of a mystery Mitchell but I don't think it's anything sinister.

I can see the photos but they're quite dark so can't make them out clearly. I don't see anything "phallic" about them though.

It is odd though.

These look like the art we did in sixth form. The petal dress woman especially, you copy from an original and it's to test whether you copy well or if you "correct" parts of her - we did it at the end of an anatomy drawing module so it was very difficult not to correct the bits that felt wrong!

I don't see anything phallic about them, nor anything that would suggest they were therapeutic drawings. They are much too pristine to fit thst description I think, each picture is carefully centered and in proportion. My experience with therapeutic drawings suggests neither of those are usually true.

Could they have been dropped off for your DH to look at? It might be worth asking him if he was expecting anything, before you take them to the college.

My mumsnet addiction has come in handy here! There was a thread a few months ago about this EXACT thing, from the other side! I think it was an AIBU, someone wanted to know if it would be weird to randomly post her child's drawings through people's letterboxes, to cheer them up or something. I think the general consensus was "no, it would freak people out".

I really hope I'm not imagining that.

I agree with Luna!! How do some of you ever leave the house with these over active imaginations?!Grin

Definitely looks like teenage art. The woman is quite stylised, like a fashion drawing. The falling plane would have got ooos and aaaahhhhs from school friends who would've declared how brilliant the teenage artist was in my day! It looks like they are trying to be a bit edgy.

Easy to get freaked out with a small baby and when tired, though! Agree with pps who have said take it to the art dpmt of the college as they should be able to recognise the art.

Would be very, very surprised if MattDillon were right...

Op - your daughters have been posting things through neighbours' doors warning them to wear sun cream and not crash their cars??

I can see them now. If they'd been randomly posted through my door, the girl would have creeped me out. Are the eyes all black? I really like the plane though (though considering you dh was going on a plane, I can see why you were freaked out). I agree, drop them into the art college. Someone may be missing them!

And the list of things worth calling 101 about grows ever longer... Confused

Sorry OP, hope you're not still worrying, but honestly there is nothing even vaguely sinister about somebody accidentally posting what looks like coursework through your door. No matter how you spin it.

A bit off topic but I remember reading something during a night feed when dd was very new, maybe only a week or two. It was about a woman in Brazil who was convinced her baby was the devil, it was the same age as dd but could walk, cackled in an unnerving way and had bright red eyes that glowed with evil intent. Now I know it was urged garbage and I did at the time, but being so sleep deprived and hormonal, I was scared to look in to dd's cot for a few moments in case her eyes had turned red!

Then I had a word with myself.

Op, hope your dh is now home safe and you're feeling better in the light of day!

Death that is hilarious.

I'm feeling much better. DH is home and he agrees that we just drop them down to the college. I'll update if I hear anything.

Now I just have to get a baby ready for a 7am flight to Israel!

Xx
