AIBU?

to be freaked out? Random drawings posted through my door

First time I have posted on AIBU...

Just got home from a week away to find several photocopied drawings of random images posted through my door in a plastic transparent wallet.

No note. No writing on them. DH away for work and I'm alone freaking out with my 4 month old. Thought they might be advertising but too random and no message.

They look like adult's drawings and they are of the following

Plane
Woman
Truck
Spaceship
Parrot

Any ideas?

I had similar once but it was a rambling letter which made no sense. I decided it was the work of someone in the throes of a mental illness. I think these are too.

OP, ask your neighbours if they've had similar. Mine had....there were about 3 of us who got notes in my court.

They are beautiful, somebody clearly has a gift. A childlike quality about just drawing a random object on each page so definitely going with the art student theory. Shame you might never know who or be able to return them? You could maybe leave a note attached to them somewhere out front (on a sunny day).

Hope you slept well op and the little one too :)

They are very good. I'd go with student. Could you take them to the college today to hand in?

I disagree that they're beautiful or good. They're very amateurish...the girl in particular. They look like the work of someone older too.

I was just going to say the same thing Matt, although I thought they looked like the drawings of someone in their mid teens maybe. They are definitely not the work of an art student. My daughter went to art college and I've seen what the usual standard is.

I wonder if they are part of a portfolio from a prospective student. Could have been dropped and, as suggested earlier, someone has put them through the nearest letterbox, in this case, yours. I think they look quite good, especially the airplane and the space shuttle

Hi sorry if this has already been suggested. Take them to the college and ask to speak to someone in the art dept. They will recognise the work if it's one of there students. I think your friend is right.

I'm with Fireside here. They look like the work of someone maybe 13, 14 years old to me, comparing them to my DDs 1 and 2 artwork at that age. They certainly don't look like college or university standard, or even A Level or Higher tbh. I'm not an artist myself, but both my DDs' work now (at 17 and 15) is a step up from that. I may be wrong, though! No explanation for how they came to be posted through your door, sorry, but I really wouldn't worry.

I maintain they're the work of an adult who is not trained. And that they are the work of someone who is mentally unwell.

The smiley face on the (phallic) space ship is odd...

Take them to the college and explain they were posted in error through your door and ask for their art teacher to reunite them with the owner.

Interesting, Matt. I just assumed school age because of the comparatively basic standard. What makes you think older, and/or with MH issues?

If they don't look college worthy (if not art could be a drama prop?) then maybe pop them on a local fb group to see if they can berry noted with the owner? Potentially a teen's homework?
I still wanna see!

Morning, still alive so my theory of someone wanting to murder me in my sleep at least seems to be wrong.

Will drop down to the college in a bit and DH nearly home from the airport.

The student thing might be correct but why are they colour copies?

The woman is made out of petals it seems and then photocopied.

Weirder and weirder

I'm curious about that too liz70. I'm not disputing that they might be by a mentally ill adult, but I'm not seeing it myself. I have a mentally ill relative and I dread to think what their art work would be like, but it wouldn't be nearly as harmless as those.

Liz something about them reminds me of therapeutic art. Also, the colours and the execution just seem "off"

OP when I got my weird note through the door, it seemed like innocuous ramblings...it WAS innocuous ramblings but it bothered me. So I told the police...I thought they might say I was a time waster but far from it.

They sent two uniformed officers round to see the note and spent some time with me talking about it. They asked me if I had any unwanted admirers or any men locally who had shown more than a passing interest in me.

The note was nothing sinister in content...it just didn't make sense at all...from memory it went on about some doctor in L.A. I lived in Cheshire!

Tell you what I think is "off" about them is that the images are all very masculine....phallic even...plane, rocket, truck and then a woman. Just....off.

You really have nothing to worry about, just drop them at the college they will have been posted by mistake. If they're photo copies, so what? Grin I'm an art student and I often take photo copies to stick in my sketchbook so I can write about my work.
I can't believe someone has been spooked by some drawings haha Smile

Wow Matt that is interesting. I also had a note through the door of another house I lived in many years ago. It was also a series of rambling messages but seemed to be from a guy who had lived in the house (rented) before us at some stage.

Just for confirmation there is a sixth form college at the bottom of our road and my neighbour (across the road) is mentally ill but I have no reason to think it could be him.
