to be freaked out? Random drawings posted through my door

Mitchell50 · 15/05/2016 23:52

First time I have posted on AIBU...

Just got home from a week away to find several photocopied drawings of random images posted through my door in a plastic transparent wallet.

No note. No writing on them. DH away for work and I'm alone freaking out with my 4 month old. Thought they might be advertising but too random and no message.

They look like adult's drawings and they are of the following

Plane
Woman
Truck
Spaceship
Parrot

Any ideas?

Professor you don't know that. And what would the college want with them? There's nothing to suggest they belong there.

MattDillonsPants · 16/05/2016 08:12

OP no, there's no reason to suspect someone because they're mentally ill as you say. When I told the police, they called me back a few days later to tell me that a number of neighbours had got the notes.

They felt it was the result of a psychotic episode in someone they knew of in the area...but didn't feel that it was an danger to me or my neighbours.

I felt a lot better when they told me that...knowing I wasn't the only one.

Mitchell50 · 16/05/2016 08:12

Well prof you may not see any reason to be worried but I had just finished a 300 mile journey with a baby and was coming home to my house alone. I think it was fairly justified to be a bit worried.

ProfessorPickles · 16/05/2016 08:12

You also don't know it was anything malicious or weird!
They might be some work that a student has done and would appreciate being handed back.

I have studied art since I was 14 and none of those drawings would make me bat an eye lid!

It just seems a bit of a coincidence that there's a college near OPs house!

Mitchell50 · 16/05/2016 08:14

I'm sure the art theory is probably correct and I'll ask a few neighbours if they have had anything when they are up.

ProfessorPickles · 16/05/2016 08:14

Sorry if I was a bit insensitive OP, I didn't mean to be! It was supposed to be a lighthearted 'no need to worry' type message.

Mitchell50 · 16/05/2016 08:15

No worries Prof I'm a bit more sleep deprived than usual

I would have guessed first year GCSE coursework drawings, so 14/15yo boy.

But if it's a VIth Form college, could easily be a weak A level student, I suppose.

Either way - that's far more plausible than anything sinister! If you fancied being nice, just drop them off at the college reception. Could be part of some poor teenager's portfolio that needs to be entered now for assessment, since it's exam time....

MattDillonsPants · 16/05/2016 08:18

But why would an art student post their art into a random home?

ohtheholidays · 16/05/2016 08:19

I can see the pictures and like other posters have said I'd check they weren't for one of the neighbours and if not then I'd just drop them off at the college.

We've had letters, pieces of completed homework, phone numbers wrote down on bits of paper all sorts dropped just outside our front gate,we have a secondary school about 5-10 minutes from where we live,we usually drop them round to the school and I stick a little note on our front gate saying what we've done so,that way who ever lost them knows where to find them.

CoolCarrie · 16/05/2016 08:19

TBH I would have a word with local police. You have the right to voice any concerns and you would not be a time waster. You are on your own with a tiny baby so it's normal to feel a bit vulnerable. It is probably a mistake, wrong house, but you don't want this playing on your mind.

firesidechat · 16/05/2016 08:20

I just can't imagine that they would be portfolio work for any kind of art student. They look like harmless doodles to me and I'm sure the op has nothing to worry about.

MattDillonsPants · 16/05/2016 08:21

But why? Why would an art students' portfolio get put through OPs letterbox? Assuming she doesn't live in a building which looks like an art college.

SoupDragon · 16/05/2016 08:22

maybe a student dropped them and someone posted them through the closest door

This is by far the most likely suggestion.

KittyKrap · 16/05/2016 08:22

I had an empty house for a while. Me and DS went to clear it and we'd had all sorts through the door. A camera and a purse and a squishy parcel (6 months out of date) that contained a huge pair of men's new underpants. We had families around us and a few student flats so I presumed they were for the students, maybe.

ProfessorPickles · 16/05/2016 08:23

They could definitely be portfolio work fireside, I've seen a lot of work like this especially at GCSE and even A level work.
To be fair I've seen people do worse than that in degree shows!

Mitchell50 · 16/05/2016 08:23

Yes as my friend (who is an art student said) at least they are random and don't seem to be directed towards us. None of a baby or anything recognizable!

There's another of a truck which is very basic and a parrot which is in the same colorful style as the plane. I think they could be coursework. Really can't get a sense of if they were done by a boy or girl

OP posts:
seven201 · 16/05/2016 08:23

I think they've probably been posted through lots of letter boxes as some kind of weird art project.

SoupDragon · 16/05/2016 08:24

I would have a word with local police.

Seriously?? Confused

Total over reaction!

Someone has dropped them walking past the OPs path and someone else thought they'd pop them through the door. Leave them on the front wall with a note saying "found last week".

Mitchell50 · 16/05/2016 08:24

Well at least no one has posted pants through my door! Thanks for the perspective Kitty!

Mitchell50 · 16/05/2016 08:26

Tbh I'm so sleep deprived that I woke up at one stage last night and thought I might have imagined the whole thing, but no, there they were next to the bed.

Possibly I've forgotten how bad the work can be at this level. My daughter went to Falmouth and the standard was amazing, although not all to my taste I have to say. Some of the fine art was "interesting".

MadameCholetsDirtySecret · 16/05/2016 08:28

The space ship is a picture of the nasa shuttle.

TheImprobableGirl · 16/05/2016 08:29

Hmm I think they've been asked to drop them into an art tutor/ teachers house and has just got the address wrong.

Tbh I would stick them outside with a note 'posted in error' and not worth a jot about them :)

VulcanWoman · 16/05/2016 08:32

I'd go to the local college and say you'd found these drawings and wondered if any of the art students had lost them. Probably posted them through the wrong door and too embarrassed to knock your door and ask.
