Please stop bandying about the terms 'Kindertransport', 'Operation Pied Piper' and so on because I've studied the Holocaust extensively, and it's not actually the same, ok?

This article says it all better than I can, please read: www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/immigration/12130175/The-plight-of-Syrian-refugees-is-not-on-a-par-with-Jews-fleeing-the-Nazis.html

For the record, I really don't believe we should be bombing them to hell in the first place: in this day and age, wars are not won in the towns and fields of North Africa. Wars are won round a conference table somewhere in Switzerland.

The whole attitude of Cameron's government at the minute seems to be "Let's make their homeland hell on earth, then pat ourselves on the back for letting, say, 10% of them into the UK". What a bloody mess.

And I'd suggest that your 'reasons' are erroneous. I'd suggest that there is a clue to the real reason for the Islamic Revolution and it's in the name.

lurked101 · 18/05/2016 23:04

You do make me laugh, you think the Islamic revolution wasn't the concequence of the 25 odd years of the Sha's despotic rule?

Whatever the roots of the other side, people who are oppressed are going to believe when someone else tells them they can make life.

I suggest you read some history rather than making assertions that you cannot back up.

lurked101 · 18/05/2016 23:05

Also in public Khommeini didn't really talk about how he would run the country after, just focused on the failts of the Sha's regieme, as in lots of revolutions the people didn't end up with what they thought they were rising for.

Marmite59 · 18/05/2016 23:19

Cool. You've make up your mind I can see. Do keep on cultivating the high handed tone ya here? Always a winner.

lurked101 · 18/05/2016 23:28

Ironic much?

IPityThePontipines · 19/05/2016 00:07

Why do Russia and China get such a free ride from you guys?

No.

Upthread I wrote:

The people doing the oppressing are the Assad regime and their allies (mainly Russia).

That's not really letting Russia off the hook, is it? China are not directly involved in the conflict, therefore they haven't been mentioned.
That's pretty clear.

Bill - This thread is about Syria, with a few other post Arab Spring countries being discussed. The Arab Spring hasn't happened in SA and Afghanistan isn't an Arab country.

Feel free to start a thread about those countries.

Aside from that, your persistent insinuations are getting tiresome. I'm still waiting for all these quotes you've said I've made elsewhere.

CoolforKittyCats · 19/05/2016 06:36

Aside from that, your persistent insinuations are getting tiresome.

Tbf there are a few insinuations on this and every other thread on this topic from some that are getting extremely tiresome.

BillSykesDog · 19/05/2016 09:10

Aside from that, your persistent insinuations are getting tiresome.

What makes you think anything I've said is about you? Well something must have hit a nerve...

emilybohemia · 19/05/2016 11:44

'Funny how people who get worked up about non-Islamist dictators and oppressive states don't seem to be able to muster up the same outrage about the Saudis of the taliban or, y'know, any stripe of oppressive Sunni fundamentalist. Strange that..'

But the thread is about Syrian refugees being compared to the Kindertransport, so it seems logical to discuss Syria. Noting that posters haven't pointed out the other numerous harsh regimes in the world is a bit odd. I still don't understand why you don't appear to be as outraged by Assad's atrocities as you are about Isis's.

A Syrian man stated,

'We, the people of Palmyra, consider both Isis and Assad to be criminals. Both commit crimes against humanity, kill innocent people and destroy cities and historical relics. Both displace hundreds of thousands of innocent citizens through their actions. Both detain, torture and kill political activists like me'.

IPityThePontipines · 19/05/2016 13:23

What makes you think anything I've said is about you? Well something must have hit a nerve...

You directly accused me of supporting Islamic extremism and anti-Semitism upthread. Allegations that you have still yet to prove.

Ah don't worry about BillSykesDog he makes accusations all the time, not the sharpest tool in the box.

There is someone on this thread who has been deleted more times than most and it isn't Bill.

Attacking someone's intelligence is quite frankly a low blow and a bit ironic when you acuse others of doing the same to you.

lurked101 · 19/05/2016 14:44

Bill Sykes has accused people of being anti semitic and supporting extremism though.. sorry.

I don't complain about people doing anything...

www.theguardian.com/world/ng-interactive/2016/may/19/kindertransport-survivors-todays-child-refugees-nicholas-winton

Kindertransport survivors themselves making comparisons.

CoolforKittyCats · 19/05/2016 14:52

Bill Sykes has accused people of being anti semitic and supporting extremism though.

Others get accused repeatedly of being xenophobic horrible human beings etc all the time on these threads just for not agreeing with them.

They are constantly deleted for it.

Neither point of view is right.

If you think something has broken the guidelines report it.

lurked101 · 19/05/2016 14:58

I think too many people are trigger happy with the reporting tbh, there are some on other threads where I can't see it. I also think that the thread then has a better narrative if all posts are left up.

I don't see any anti semitic points on here, or anyone endorsing extremism, I see them. I see it been thrown out a lot.

I do apologise for my own ad hom though.

northernshepherdess · 19/05/2016 15:17

Youre right!
Hitler sympathised with the Arabs and refused to send the refugees (jewish) to 'israel' and instead offered them to the zionists, uk and usa who all said "oh urrrrm, no... you're alright mate. You keep em"...
It isn't compatible to bombing the daylights out of a country and trying to trap it's residents, who are already suffering in that country.
UK / usa have no issue at bombing the crap out of people... but they do prefer they don't allow them to escape first :/

Helmetbymidnight · 19/05/2016 15:28

You are not making any sense with your Hitler stories but excellent work making the zionists, USA and uk to blame for the holocaust. Well done you.

And you understand that 3 million innocent people have died in the Syrian civil war before foreign (mostly Russian) intervention. But you still think is and uk are to blame.
That is remarkable.

Helmetbymidnight · 19/05/2016 15:30

Is = USA

northernshepherdess · 19/05/2016 15:35

Lol. I answered the op.
Who posed the question aibu to be sick of people on FB comparing Syrian refugees to the Jewish refugees.
And yes... They had a chance to help these people but chose not to.
In the case of syria, we are seeing a very similar situation but with an added attempt at making the syrian refugees look like they don't deserve help because they're all terrorists and anyone who doesn't agree is suddenly an anti smite. Been on the receiving end on that from church going friends... One of whom believes all muslim/Arab babies should be killed as it says in the bible :/
Excellent work on being the helmet btw

Helmetbymidnight · 19/05/2016 15:44

and I said that your answers were inaccurate/lies.
Lol.

BillSykesDog · 19/05/2016 15:47

Bill Sykes has accused people of being anti semitic and supporting extremism though.

Actually I haven't accused anybody of being an extremist have been very, very, careful not to. Despite being goaded to say it because I know that certain people are trying to get me to say it because they want to be able to use the report button.

Given that I have definitely not said it, I wonder why on earth would read that into anything I've not said unless it's rather a raw nerve?

BillSykesDog · 19/05/2016 16:05

You directly accused me of supporting Islamic extremism and anti-Semitism upthread. Allegations that you have still yet to prove.

Not extremism no. I didn't say that. I did say I had seen you post something questionable on a thread about antisemitism. I am on a phone and finding specific old posts is near enough impossible. Plus I can't remember exactly what you said, it was a while ago. And a lot of the threads you post on seem to get deleted (again, funny that).

IPityThePontipines · 19/05/2016 17:50

And a lot of the threads you post on seem to get deleted (again, funny that).

How convenient for you! It's not true though, is it?

How about you just engage with what myself and other posters are actually saying, instead of making half-baked accusations about what you think someone said on another thread.

OrangesandLemonsNow · 19/05/2016 18:11

How about you just engage with what myself and other posters are actually saying, instead of making half-baked accusations about what you think someone said on another thread.

Tbf both 'sides' of the debate should do that.

It also takes both 'sides' to engage. The numerous threads there have been on this (and a significant number have been deleted) shows that this doesn't happen though.

I think in all honesty posters are getting a bit tiered of name calling by some when they don't agree with what is being said.
