As an adult, why would you need to ask anyone why you should use a public forum to post your problems on, if you're unhappy about the fact it's public?

Mn isn't the only forum journos use.

Surely you would be better posing the question to the DM.

Well it's an international website, parents from all around the world post here.

Tbh, I'm getting just as hacked off at the 'DM stole a story' threads as I am at the DM using threads for stories.

It's a public website for goodness sake! It's no different to standing in your local high street and shouting your topic to the world. It's not like they're coming round and going through your bins. Some people have a strange view of the "sanctity" of mumsnet.

You're insistence on calling it 'theft' makes you sound very immature OP.

If you're worried about posting anonymously on here and finding your problem gets anonymously posted in the newspapers, don't post here or on any other public forum for that matter.

Once you start talking about your life on a public forum you should understand that it simply isn't private any more.

Find support through other means if you don't accept the implications of posting online.

I'm not immature, I'm naive. I guess I just stupidly thought that a place of annoymised support, should be regarded as a place of sanctity for want of a better word, for those who really need it. Fear of your problems becoming public property will prevent people who really need support from posting. Regardless of the legalities of it all, I really should remember that morals don't play a part in "journalism" these days.

Put your life on the Internet and it becomes public. Dont share anything you don't want to be on The Wright Stuff, The DM, or This Morning. It's been going on for years. You sound incredibly naive.

Yeah I have been worrying about it too. I think the solution is to be very vague about it. I was worried the other day about a thread on here which could cost the power her job actually. I think MNHQ should have a word with Daily Fail. Something should be done about it

It's not just the Mail to be honest - although the Mail do tend to take more copy/ run longer pieces online than other places.

We have always been clear that this is a public forum and that folks should only share what they are prepared to be in the public domain but we will have a close look (i.e. talk to lawyers) at what constitutes "fair use" and make sure the media are staying within the boundaries.

I rather suspect though, it might be one of those things that needs a precedent to be established, so in the meantime I'd re-iterate that Mnetters should be aware that this isn't a private space and you never know who might be looking in.

If you're really concerned then changing your name to something along the lines of TheDailyMailAreAShamelessBunchOfCunts might help and make them marginally less likely to use your story. I might be joking but I suspect it would work.
