To think a lot of posters need enlightening on proper use of strikethrough

In the right hands but alas not mine the strikethrough function can be witty. However, many posters including me use it when it just isn't necessary.

YABU There are no "rules"

I don't care how people use it as long as they don't use it too much, or strike out entire fucking sentences. I find it really fucking annoying

I always see people moaning about the strikethrough thing and wanting people to 'own' what they say or something.

I use it to be self deprecating mainly. I quite like it as a function. Not sure there are rules as to it's usage.

I got told to 'own' my comment the other day, Sparkling - I'd only crossed out one word!

Oh dear. I "lightheartedly" made a little joke about an Op's use of strike through yesterday and it didn't go down too well. But I just find op's difficult to read when they have gone nuts on the strike through for no reason, that becomes all I see rather than reading what they have said. And people strike through swearing, why the fuck would you do that? Just swear or don't.

I get the rage when people strike out the second word, rather than this first. To my mind it's supposed to look like you were writing something then changed your mind, so crossed it out and put something different. So:

I like drinking a lot of little gin. GOOD
I like drinking a little lot of gin. BAD

I don't see how using it means you are not owning your comments!

It's not the same as muttering under your breath or doing a fake cough in real life.

Everyone can see you wrote it.

It find it mildly amusing.

In all seriousness (and no strikethroughs), I think any addition that adds nuance to messages can be helpful. IMHO nobody should be criticising you for using (or indeed not using) it Peace. Now I've probably used too many parentheses instead.

just that may have been me! but they did strike through on 'God forsaken' and 'fuck' ... I don't get it.

I use it lightheartedly. Like when you think one thing but say the polite version. Usually just once in a post. Just one word or phrase.

ie: I'm sick to bloody death tired of MIL telling me how to loose weight. Would i be unreasonable to stick her head down the toilet ask her to shut up not to.

sort of thing. Just one of the above obviously.

Nuance is good, Nairsmells, it's when people strikethrough for no reason then I get disgruntled
