To ask if it's a good thing that London has a Muslim mayor

DoesFlossfloss · 06/05/2016 21:17

Because my London based in-laws are not happy and I've not been following the campaign as I'm not in London so don't really care. However, we're seeing PILs this weekend and it will be up for discussion.

"It's lots of non-specific "intimating", Red. Without spelling anything out, to avoid actually being challenged on it"

What was my first post on the topic?

Lweji · 09/05/2016 15:58

Your first post:

"40% of England's muslims live in the capital city. Plus, London is the home of the liberal left elite who see islam as their saviour against Capitalism so it's no surprise that Mr Khan was voted in."

"I hope things will turn out fine but I have a sneaking suspicion that they won't. He's a muslim first, a mayor of London second."

I think PausingFlatly was quite right.

And I'm still amused by the second sentence.

Until we are able to determine and understand this problem and the dangerous threat it poses, our country cannot be the victims of horrendous attacks by people that believe only in Jihad, and have no sense of reason or respect for human life.

If you look at Paris [it's] no longer the same city it was. They have sections in Paris which are radicalised where they police refuse to go there because they're petrified. We have places in London and other places that are so radicalised the police are afraid for their own lives. We have to be very smart and very vigilant

The Quran is very interesting. A lot of people say it teaches love… But there's something there that teaches some very negative vibe… Now I don't know if that's from the Quran. I don't know if that's from someplace else. But there's tremendous hatred out there that I've never seen anything like it.”

You can be politically correct if you want, but are you trying to say we don't have a problem? Most Muslims, like most everything, I mean, these are fabulous people. But we certainly do have a problem, I mean, you have a problem throughout the world. It wasn't people from Sweden that blew up the World Trade Center

Somebody told me – and I have no idea if this is bad for him or not but perhaps it would be – that where it says religion it might have 'Muslim'. And if you're a Muslim, you don't change your religion, by the way

Same stirring of a non-specific threat. We must be smart to stop it happening here and oh no, now we have a Muslim Mayor in London we have failed to be smart, so we should await inevitable the end of the world.

Pepperpot99 · 09/05/2016 16:12

What a load of old bollocks I'm reading on this thread!

I'm still waiting for the OP to return and let us know her PILs' verdict on having that nasty old Muslim elected Mayor of the People's Republic of Londonistan.

MrSnow · 09/05/2016 16:14

Have you been drinking?

RedToothBrush · 09/05/2016 16:15

Na. That was yesterday.

Pepperpot99 · 09/05/2016 16:17

Yes I have, in preparation for Armageddon, which is being ushered in by the election of a Muslim Enemy Within. Prepare for the End and all that.

MrSnow · 09/05/2016 16:18

I guess your the type of person who would give me a hard time for saying nasty things about Erdogan? It's OK if you are.

123lekl · 09/05/2016 16:19

MrSnow....... I will add that surely islamophobia (even if rooted in fear and ignorance not hatred or superiority) can lead to or develop into racism, particularly if one race or ethnicity is associated with a religion. There's a fine line between fear and prejudice and sometimes it's hard to tell

MrSnow · 09/05/2016 16:20

"Yes I have, in preparation for Armageddon, which is being ushered in by the election of a Muslim Enemy Within. Prepare for the End and all that"

Good for you. All people have done is registered their slight concerns, which is their right and you don't have to like it. Others have raised a few eyebrows and you've somehow twisted that into some kind of approaching armageddon.

Talk yourself outside and have a word with yourself.

BreakingDad77 · 09/05/2016 16:21

Theres a good counter post going around Facebook, can'n find it to hand highlighting how there are Christians in high office in various middle eastern countries to see off some EDL type posting.

RedToothBrush · 09/05/2016 16:24

Can you actually make a real point rather than rather vague comments by association, creating weak links and trying to pander to fear?
Its OK if you can't.

MrSnow · 09/05/2016 16:26

"I will add that surely islamophobia (even if rooted in fear and ignorance not hatred or superiority) can lead to or develop into racism, particularly if one race or ethnicity is associated with a religion. "

Good C&P from

"islamophobia" - The irrational fear of Islam. I've been to the Middle East, namely Kuwait, Egypt and Saudi and witnessed lots of things I wish I hadn't. Can you tell me why that makes me irrational?

MrSnow · 09/05/2016 16:28

"Can you actually make a real point rather than rather vague comments by association, creating weak links and trying to pander to fear?

Considering all you've done is parp on about Donald Fucking Trump for two pages then I think you're not one to judge on making a valid point.

And please explain "trying to pander to fear" what on earth does that even mean?

LookJustCancelTheCheque · 09/05/2016 16:29

MrSnow, we're talking about the UK on this thread, not the Middle East. I'm not going to say 'irrational', but can you draw us a clear picture of how you think things you've seen in e.g. Kuwait equate to Sadiq Khan being in charge of the buses in London?

MrSnow · 09/05/2016 16:31

MrSnow, we're talking about the UK on this thread.

Explain that to the person who keeps parping on and quoting Donald Trump. Thanks.

RedToothBrush · 09/05/2016 16:32

I've been to the Middle East, namely Kuwait, Egypt and Saudi and witnessed lots of things I wish I hadn't. Can you tell me why that makes me irrational?

So you've been somewhere and seen bad things.

Bad people do bad things. Its not the exclusive preserve of the Middle East in 2016 sadly.

MrSnow · 09/05/2016 16:32

"we're talking about the UK on this thread, not the Middle East. I'm not going to say 'irrational', but can you draw us a clear picture of how you think things you've seen in e.g. Kuwait equate to Sadiq Khan being in charge of the buses in London"

I'd be happy to be proven wrong but I don't trust the ideology. At all.

RedToothBrush · 09/05/2016 16:34

Why? Has the comparison to Donald Trump annoyed you or rattled you?

Is that because its accurate or because you don't like Trump.

The point remains you are still using an argument in the same way, predicting the end of times with no substance.

Hissy · 09/05/2016 16:34

Genuine question to any police officers in London:

Where are the areas where police officers are afraid for their lives?

Seriously?

I do know a met officer, when I see him, I'll ask him, but I'd be interested to see what others had to say.

MrSnow · 09/05/2016 16:36

Bad people do bad things. Its not the exclusive preserve of the Middle East in 2016 sadly.

Of course it isn't, but try and think will you please? Some of the things I've seen and witnessed have been done in the name of an ideology. Pardon me if I don't give carte blanche to that ideology.

LookJustCancelTheCheque · 09/05/2016 16:37

I'd be happy to be proven wrong but I don't trust the ideology. At all.

WHAT ideology?

Please, genuinely, explain clearly what you mean. Then perhaps we can discuss it properly.

MrSnow · 09/05/2016 16:38

"The point remains you are still using an argument in the same way, predicting the end of times with no substance"

I've already told you off once about your hyperbolic nature, it does you or the debate no favours.

Where am I predicting "end times" You seem reasonably intelligent, why do you think you posting things I haven't said isn't going to be picked up on?

MrSnow · 09/05/2016 16:39

"WHAT ideology"

Apologies, if you don't know to what I'm referring when I say "ideology" then there really isn't any point in continuing the debate. No offence.

RedToothBrush · 09/05/2016 16:41

Where are the areas where police officers are afraid for their lives?

City Hall, The Queen's Walk, London SE1 2AA
Apparently.
