To ask if it's a good thing that London has a Muslim mayor

Because my London based in-laws are not happy and I've not been following the campaign as I'm not in London so don't really care. However, we're seeing PILs this weekend and it will be up for discussion.

"...possibly riding on an elephant." No! Got to be on a Sadiq bike! Or should it be a Sadiq cycle? Sadiq saddle?

ghostyslovesheep · 09/05/2016 15:10

Sadiqcycle has a nice ring about it

MrSnow · 09/05/2016 15:10

he's probably secretly building one of those muslamic ray guns

Do you know the person who spoke those words, which the left jumped on with utter glee actually said "rape gangs" he wasn't wrong, was he?

RedToothBrush · 09/05/2016 15:11

No, the referendum thing was pure opportunism.

He can't loose with it, as if Stay win, he can always argue that the campaign was unfair as Stay was government backed (easy to dismiss that Brexit has more holes than swiss cheese and also stinks just as much with more than a whiff of the same stench that Goldsmith's campaign had).

If it wins, he stakes his claim for the leadership getting one over on Cameron and Osborne (who is probably his biggest rival for the top job).

If he had gone Stay, he would just have been another of Cameron's crowd and wouldn't win as much internal Tory support for the leadership bid that he gets from brown nosing the Leave lot.

Its massively tactical.

MrSnow · 09/05/2016 15:12

Even the fact this discussion is taking place shows a huge problem with islamophobia and that's a form of racism in my opinion.

I am stunned by the height of stupidity you've achieved there. Bravo!

123lekl · 09/05/2016 15:13

Stupidity! Please explain?? Some of the comments I've seen are among the most ignorant I've read on mumsnet!

motherinferior · 09/05/2016 15:13

The Mayor Bestriding a Sadiqcycle. It has a ring to it.

PausingFlatly · 09/05/2016 15:17

Nice attempt at diversion, MrSnow, but some of us are still tapping our fingers waiting to hear what you think Khan's going to do.

He's going to put Osama as met police chief, of course.

and cancel the cheque too

123lekl · 09/05/2016 15:18

Even scaremongering because of someone's religion or ethnicity is fucking racist- if you've never been at the receiving end of it then please be hesitant to call others 'stupid' for being appalled at the ignorance they are reading

RedToothBrush · 09/05/2016 15:19

Is a Sadiqcycle a type of rickshaw? To replace Boris Bikes?

You can get three people on a rickshaw thus reducing the traffic on the road.
Plus it has that 'foreigner' thing going on too.

Sounds like a good idea to me.

SheHasAWildHeart · 09/05/2016 15:20

MrSnow did you sort out that stuff with the CSA and you not seeing your son because you seemed to disappear off that thread.

Lweji · 09/05/2016 15:20

Ok, so, it's not strictly racist, but religionist. :)

You're assuming he's going to do certain things and think certain things just because he's muslim, regardless of his back record.

MrSnow · 09/05/2016 15:20

Nice attempt at diversion, MrSnow, but some of us are still tapping our fingers waiting to hear what you think Khan's going to do.

I've given you the Met Police angle, which is potentially huge. I also want to see what he does with Tower Hamlets, you're aware of the Luftur Rahman goings on, aren't you?

Lweji · 09/05/2016 15:21

Yes, but who do you think he'll put in?

MrSnow · 09/05/2016 15:22

Even scaremongering because of someone's religion fucking racist

No, it isn't, it's called bigotry.

If you have a fear of someones skin colour or where they come from, that could be classed as racism.

"wats wacist" again.

MrSnow · 09/05/2016 15:23

Yes, but who do you think he'll put in?

I really don't know but very interested to find out.

ghostyslovesheep · 09/05/2016 15:24

well I think you can deny muslamic rape gangs yes Hmm

It's funny how that's always the diversion used but unless you are suggesting The Mayor of London is part of a rape gang it's not really relevant - nor does it answer the question of what you think he is going to do?

NB Rape isn't exclusive to Muslims - hth

Lweji · 09/05/2016 15:24

I hope things will turn out fine but I have a sneaking suspicion that they won't.

Surely you have an inkling as you already have a suspicion about how things will go.

MrSnow · 09/05/2016 15:26

well I think you can deny muslamic rape gangs yes

Rotherham, Oxford, Rochdale, Luton, Leicester, etc, etc, etc. Do you not read the press?

123lekl · 09/05/2016 15:28

'Wats wacist'...... childish
You've just decided to comment on all my comments by insulting me to make yourself feel clever.

Racism might not have been to technically accurate term (prejudice/ ignorant/ judgmental might've been better but I'm having a long day at work and bloody distracted by this thread). My point was (and still is) that some of the comments about SK based largely solely on his religion are grossly unfair, as are the 'Muslim' stereotypes

MrSnow · 09/05/2016 15:28

yes, and I've intimated a few things here. I'm also worried about the state of the Labour party and in particular anti semitism. I wonder if London will see the same chain of events that has happened in Paris, with thousands of Jewish people leaving for Israel. You can google to check that.

ghostyslovesheep · 09/05/2016 15:30

Muslamic isn't a thing - hth

There, isn't that a much better way to say things instead of just shouting out RACIST.

It's tough if you find it unfair, that's the society we live in, for now, freedom of speech should be revered and there is nothing wrong with commenting on his religion as long as it's not done in a hateful way.
