To ask if it's a good thing that London has a Muslim mayor

Because my London based in-laws are not happy and I've not been following the campaign as I'm not in London so don't really care. However, we're seeing PILs this weekend and it will be up for discussion.

Tommy Robinson getting very confused about Sadiq's wife

RedToothBrush · 09/05/2016 14:49

I hope things will turn out fine but I have a sneaking suspicion that they won't.

Ahhh ok.

I'll remember that when London slips into the Thames sometime during the next four years, never to be seen again.

I see what you are saying here. That if, godforbid there is a bomb, that'll be SK's fault. Not the terrorists that plant it. He'll obviously the grandmaster and planner behind the act and has encouraged such an abomination. Afterall, he's the one in charge of the transport network now, who else could it be?

I'll mention it to the BBC that you had the intel on that one then.

MrSnow · 09/05/2016 14:50

I honestly give up....... sad The amount of ignorance blatant racism .

What racism are you referring to?

BertrandRussell · 09/05/2016 14:51

MrSnow- what do you think Khan is going to do?

Ricardian · 09/05/2016 14:53

Perhaps if the Tories had wanted to be taken seriously in the election, they wouldn''t have put up a hopelessly incompetent candidate and fought a campaign that would have looked nasty and mean-spirited in the north of England in the 1950s, but in one of the most diverse cities in the world was again, hopelessly incompetent. Going looking for the poor, badly educated racist vote in London is not a winning strategy and in any event that demographic is mopped up by UKIP.

Goldsmith thought he could win with a campaign which was basically "are you a bit racist, but not quite racist enough to vote for UKIP?"; hoping that 50% of the population of London went "yep, that's me, bit racist but not too much, them Muslims, fifth column, you can't trust 'em" doesn't seem like the winning way. And indeed, it isn't the winning way.

It's a shame the lovely Jemima isn't still married, because you can't help thinking Christmas might be a bit chilly this year. Oh yes, I forgot, them Muslims, want to ban Christmas, innit?

motherinferior · 09/05/2016 14:55

He's going to go around being Muslim, Bertrand. In his feeelthy forrin way.

Chippednailvarnishing · 09/05/2016 14:55

What, specifically, do you think he is going to do?

Well if he's a practicing Muslim he'll fast annually to remind him of the suffering of others.

Which is a damn sight more than Boris and Zac do...

ghostyslovesheep · 09/05/2016 14:57

yes - donate to charity as well

pray a bit ???

BertrandRussell · 09/05/2016 14:57

I wish people would stop calling him bumbling Boris. He is ruthlessly political ambitious with a mind like a steel trap. We underestimate him at our peril.

Ricardian · 09/05/2016 14:58

His father drove a bus.

Goldsmith's father concealed murderers, committed large scale tax fraud avoidance, engaged in concerted attempts to have magazine editors jailed and was a general all-around shit.

And it's Khan who's background is being held up as "suspicious"?

RedToothBrush · 09/05/2016 14:58

WHAT!!! No Christmas Tree in Trafalgar Square this year!?

ghostyslovesheep · 09/05/2016 14:59

he's probably secretly building one of those muslamic ray guns

Lweji · 09/05/2016 15:00

Will he take Fridays' off, though??? Hmm

Work Sundays?

LookJustCancelTheCheque · 09/05/2016 15:01

Totes. Have been terrified of Boris for years. He's a Trojan horse – the Tory it's OK to like.

BartholinsSister · 09/05/2016 15:01

If he doesn't fast annually will he forget that others suffer?

Ricardian · 09/05/2016 15:02

WHAT!!! No Christmas Tree in Trafalgar Square this year!?

Of course, it's not helped (being serious for a moment) by well-intentioned but fuckwitted progressives inventing the idea that Muslims are offended by Christmas and then falling over themselves to avoid this non-existent offence, which then gives succour to racists to point to them Muzzies agin, innit? when in fact the whole thing was a confection of right-on Claire in the Community types.

^ Absolutely.
I've met him and I agree completely. I'm pretty sure he will lead the Tories soon enough, unless this Referendum blessedly does away with him.

motherinferior · 09/05/2016 15:03

He might go around writing poetry, or advancing science, or committing other dreadful muslamic acts too.

Clandestino · 09/05/2016 15:04

I don't have a clue what my Lord Mayor's religion is. Never been important to me.

123lekl · 09/05/2016 15:04

"What racism are you referring to?"

Erm are we reading the same thread?? Read back over the middle pages of the thread back to comments about 'Muslims' and what they are like.

123lekl · 09/05/2016 15:05

Even the fact this discussion is taking place shows a huge problem with islamophobia and that's a form of racism in my opinion

motherinferior · 09/05/2016 15:06

I quite fancy a Court of Khan where he gathers notable scholars and artists around him. He could be painted in an aspect of benevolence, or possibly riding on an elephant.

NeverEverAnythingEver · 09/05/2016 15:07

Quite a few posts on here so haven't read all. Some are funnier (though perhaps unintentionally) than others. Grin Especially the one about religions apart from Islam being very nice to women.

YY about Boris Bertrand.

I won't mind somebody doing something about Christmas though. No carols in October please!

MrSnow · 09/05/2016 15:08

what do you think Khan is going to do?

It's a very complex subject, I'm going to be interested if he takes it upon himself to veto the contract renewal of the current met police chief and if he does, who he installs.
