To ask for your happy stories of bad weather weddings

So I'm getting married tomorrow and the forecast is heavy rain, large hail, drenching downpours and damaging wind haha. Any stories or advice??

Where are you getting married? Bright sunshine is forecast here for most of tomorrow.

We married in November so it wasn't surprising that the weather was bad but it pissed it down all day - proper, drenching rain. I don't remember that about our wedding day - MIL always mentions it so I know about it. The point being the last thing you will remember is the weather, you'll remember the day - the emotion, the ceremony, the blur of people (all of whom you'll see if you're inside together), the silly things that happen. It'll be marvellous.

And congratulations for tomorrow!

Thanks sweary. In the south west. That's true, as long as I end the day married I'll be happy :-)

I don't know where you are in the SW but the forecast is for heavy rain later on, the day might be quite nice.

It's said if it rains on your wedding day, you'll have a long and happy marriage. True of my bro and his wife, (26 years) true of DH and me (22 years.) Our wedding photos are hilarious. There's a lowering sky in the background, and me in a white dress with muddy white silk boots!

Have been in the wedding industry for years and some of the loveliest photos we have done are when the weather has played up (think running in the rain/snuggled under umbrellas etc). It's not ideal but it's the one thing you can't control. Do you have a wet weather plan?

It rained on my wedding day in May. Got lovely pics outside just the two of us with help from the photographer and the driver of the car they held umbrellas up while we got into position etc then pics taken once umbrella was moved.
At my dsis wedding the ground was wet and our heels kept getting stuck in the grass during pics. The hotel let us use a few towels to stand on and hid them under the dresses.
I had the best day couldn't have cared less about the rain.

My parents. The downpour was sooo bad that the sky was dark at 4pm - in June!

They've be very very happily married for 45 years.

We went to a rainy wedding 2 years ago- it was a lovely day anyway and their photos under white umbrellas on the rain are stunning.

No wet weather plan short of 1 small white umbrella for me haha. Thank you though everyone. I guess whatever happens happens

See if your bridesmaid can get you a fleet if transparent umbrellas...

Mind you, we didn't have them and it started off snowing. I didn't care, though the soggy stiletto problem was an issue.

I'd rather a wet wedding than the horrendous 32 degrees blistering heat of my friends wedding. You can stay dry, but you can't stay cool. The party was dead by 10pm even though the venue was booked for 12 because everyone was so sweaty and tired!

Your photographer should be able to guide you as to how to get the best of your day and your venue will be used to wet weather catastrophes so be guided by them. We always carry umbrellas just in case. 4 years ago I had back to back weddings over the Easter bank holiday and it tipped it down for the whole 4 days - there were smiles all round and I promise it didn't affect the love and romance one bit. Congratulations on your happy day. It will be wonderful no matter what xxx (ps take wellies just case-they look great in photos!)

I got married last November - driest on record, except my wedding day- where it poured down... My wedding was in a place mad for cold weather- however my favourite parts (and photos) were of us in the sweeping rain xx

Tarts I think we might have been at the same wedding! DH and I had to leave just before 10, I was starting to feel ill!

When I got married it was some of the worst weather for 70 years. The rain hammered so loudly you couldn't hear the speeches.

It was the best day. We have lovely photos and everyone had a brilliant time.

A colleague of dh's got married the same day and said it had been ruined by the rain. I thought that was sad.

Have the right attitude and it won't matter what the weather's doing.

Rained on my wedding day. I remember rinsing the mud stains out of my dress train in the sink in the ladies loo. Still married, so it can't have been that bad!

It rained on my parents wedding day, and my goodness they were happy throughout their entire married life together. It rained on our wedding day nearly 12 years ago, and we're very, very happy with 3 wonderful DC. It rained on my Bil's wedding 10 years ago, they're very happy with 3 lovely DC.

We have a gorgeous picture of my wedding dress hitched up to cross a puddle with a beautiful wedding brolly held by my DH.

Rained on mine but it didn't matter a bit. My fave pic is of me practically running to the church (was late) with DH's friend chasing me with an umbrella trying to keep me dry! We are very happily married

Perhaps too late now but if you could dispatch someone to sports direct first thing to get a few cheap golf umbrellas, you won't regret it!

The day before my wedding was glorious sunshine, a good temperature (not too sticky) and a light breeze.

The day after my wedding was blazing sunshine, bit of a breeze, manageable really with plenty of water and not staying outside too long.

The day I got married it rained from 6am to about 11pm. My dress still has the mud stains on the train from where I went for a few fags at the reception and started taking on water at an alarming rate. However somehow my hair didn't frizz too much from the moisture and the photos aren't dark and grey and drizzly looking, and it was the best day ever. The dress getting heavy from the water was quite funny really as it was already a bit heavy and it gave us a giggle, as did the bridesmaids gradually getting far too, er, cheery to try and help me hold it up(as did I). I haven't had the mud cleaned off because it was all memories of the day to me and I didn't ever plan to get rid of it.

Also my grandma told me on the morning that it was good luck if it rained on the day and when she married my grandad it thundered and lightning-ed. I don't know how far that's actually true but it made me feel loads better after about 4 hours sleep waking up to possibly wetter weather than the lost city of Atlantis.

On my wedding day there was a storm. We had a beautiful spot picked out for photos which of course could therefore not happen.

However, it was an amazing day and everyone I honestly don't think the weather ruined the day even a little bit. Everyone genuinely seemed to be having a great time and at least it meant everyone had to stay together inside - rather than everyone spread out and therefore everything seem rather empty.

PS. also neither you nor your groom will get hot and sweat/shine/smell etc!

It didn’t rain on my wedding day but it blew a gale. My DH had to hold down my veil from behind and the pics outside are not great. We have been married almost 31 years now. The weather will be what it will be. No point angsting about it.

Apparently it snowed the day my great grandmother got married. Not what you'd expect for June - she was happily married for over 45 years.
