Mother sues for £20k for being discouraged from bf while the wave machine was on

Daily Mirror link to the story here.

I'm totally for breastfeeding wherever and whenever, but I wouldn't want to eat my sandwiches in a swimming pool - they are so germy, like a human soup, so not sure a swimming pool with a wave machine on would be the best place to bf. Plus, obviously in this case there was the waves.

I realise that getting out of the water, especially if she had other kids, with a hungry baby would be a massive faff, but wouldn't the wave machine splash the baby and make it choke?

Serious question: AIBU to think this? Is bf in a swimming pool a done thing? Genuinely curious.

Not rtf but suppose there was legionaries disease or other disease affecting water hygiene surely it's unwise to breastfeed then.

Also bfing in water with a wave machine even by the shore is unwise suppose baby is sick suppose you slip and drop baby?! Waves in wave machine pools are quite strong too.

There was a thread this time last year re mother bfing baby I think on steps of pool.

blaeberry · 03/05/2016 13:41

It keeps being stated you can breastfeed anywhere you like. I am confused by this. Surely there are limits for common sense? Such you can only breastfeed anywhere a mother's and baby would normally and safely be? Presumably you can't insist upon being given access to a space just to breastfeed (monkey enclosure?) or to breastfeed somewhere unsafe (M25?).?

Buckinbronco · 03/05/2016 13:41

Far far far far more likely to get legionella in your bath at home so that's not really a concern

SuperFlyHigh · 03/05/2016 13:43

Buckin but it has happened in public places too.

Sparklingbrook · 03/05/2016 13:45

Why is it so shameful or distasteful to be pro-breastfeeding? It isn't AFAIK but no need to be all weird about it.

yy blae

like all those nutcases who think that breastfeeding means they can flout age restrictions in pubs clubs and casinos etc.

who then quote discrimination when it's not a feeding issue but a H&S or legal issue.

Buckinbronco · 03/05/2016 13:48

What super fly? Legionella? If legionella is in the pool it doesn't matter whether you're breastfeeding or not tbh, it's the being in that water at all thats a problem

Jasonandyawegunorts · 03/05/2016 13:52

It comes down to this just becusae you can breastfeed somewhere doesn't mean it's ilegal or a preventions of rights if someone states / adsvises that you shouldn't.

moreginrequired · 03/05/2016 13:57

I don't get (personally) why she needs to sue but I wouldn't get out the pool if I was feeding. Not because I'm some sort of NCT storm trooper but because the baby will get bloody cold! Secondly try telling an accompanying toddler to come sit quietly by your side!

I don't know this woman (and frankly gave better things to do than look up her Twitter feed) but if I felt safe and confident enough in the pool then I wouldn't be moving...

unless any one of us was there agree/disagree but don't chase the woman down ffs

Shakey15000 · 03/05/2016 13:59

Somehow I doubt she will post here or, at least admit to. Her Twitter is awful.

Sparklingbrook · 03/05/2016 14:02

She hasn't got time to MN surely? Out and about trying to spot stuff to complain about.

Norisca · 03/05/2016 14:05

This is still a legal case and shouldn't be discussed. The pool has clearly contacted the press in this case to target the mother who's been through enough as it is. She did nothing wrong.

Sparklingbrook · 03/05/2016 14:06

I would very much like to know the full facts. If it goes to court it will be riveting.

SoupDragon · 03/05/2016 14:07

The pool has clearly contacted the press

That is not clear at all.

She did nothing wrong

You can only know that if you were there or are her. Which is it?

Kefte123 · 03/05/2016 14:08

So - far.

My in-laws forced me to always feed in another room, even in my own home.

My in-laws/friends/aquaintances all suggested I stopped feeding from about 2-months onwards.

I have been called a paedophile and child abuse for feeding beyond 6-months.

I have been asked to cover-up.

I have been asked to feed in a toilet.

Furthermore - The Mirror isn't much better at accurate news-reporting as The Daily Mail; actually they tend to lend stories from one-another, using the same information and "facts". I think The Daily Fail has become an umbrella term for newspapers that tend to print misleading and sensationalist stories - The Mirror, The Sun, The Daily Mail, The Express ect..

Sparklingbrook · 03/05/2016 14:09

I still think it's one for Judge Rinder. He would sort it out. Grin

Floggingmolly · 03/05/2016 14:12

The pool contacted the press to target the mother? Can anyone with even one functioning brain cell actually believe this?

CoolforKittyCats · 03/05/2016 14:14

The Daily Fail has become an umbrella term for newspapers that tend to print misleading and sensationalist stories

No it hasn't.

Kefte123 · 03/05/2016 14:16

"Sorry as soon as you bring Hillsborough into it you lose any point you may have had."

I apologise if this upset you; I understand this is a very sensitive topic. I used this because it is one that people are most-aware of, and example of how uncaring and twisted newspapers are - we should not rely on them to give us the true picture of any event.

There are also several examples from celebrities, and many other examples, if you care to research. But they would be less notorious.

CoolforKittyCats · 03/05/2016 14:16

She did nothing wrong.

Oh another person that was there....

How amazing all these people on one particular thread on MN were also in the same pool with the person and baby at the exact same time and saw exactly what happened.

Jasonandyawegunorts · 03/05/2016 14:17

I think The Daily Fail has become an umbrella term for newspapers that tend to print misleading and sensationalist stories

Only in very small sock puppet related circles.

Jasonandyawegunorts · 03/05/2016 14:18

I used this because it is one that people are most-aware of, and example of how uncaring and twisted newspapers are

And you yourself for using it as a comparision.

Sparklingbrook · 03/05/2016 14:18

I still don't understand why this has only just come to light when whatever happened last May.

Kefte123 · 03/05/2016 14:19

"The Daily Fail has become an umbrella term for newspapers that tend to print misleading and sensationalist stories

No it hasn't."

Perhaps not for you; or perhaps you have never come across it.

Language is rather diverse, and not everyone if affected by a change in language. This can be due to generational gaps or other reasons. However, I can assure you, I have seen it used and used it myself like that.
