AIBU?

Mother sues for £20k for being discouraged from bf while the wave machine was on

Daily Mirror link to the story here.

I'm totally for breastfeeding wherever and whenever, but I wouldn't want to eat my sandwiches in a swimming pool - they are so germy, like a human soup, so not sure a swimming pool with a wave machine on would be the best place to bf. Plus, obviously in this case there was the waves.

I realise that getting out of the water, especially if she had other kids, with a hungry baby would be a massive faff, but wouldn't the wave machine splash the baby and make it choke?

Serious question: AIBU to think this? Is bf in a swimming pool a done thing? Genuinely curious.

Math, pull up a 🛋 And lets discuss this

"Yeah, i'm happy sitting on the pitcvh in danger of getting hit by the ball thanks"

Given that math specifically excepted H&S issues, this falls extremely flat.

Do you not understand that there was a time before the Act when women could be asked to take their baby off to the ladies room to feed? It was considered a more suitable place for breastfeeding.

Really math, thank you for this history lesson which hasn't nothing to do with anything.

Do you not understand what a right to breastfeed in public entails? It means a women has a right to choose whatever spot she wants.

Yes, like the center of the M1, god help anyone who suggests otherwise!

Rule of thumb -- butt out if you see a woman breastfeeding. Keep your suggestions to yourself. Women's decisions are not up for grabs by all and sundry. Women are not public property.

you think this will help normalise breastfeeding do you?

What do you mean by the phrase 'more suitable'?

A place where waves don't cover a babies head

What would make an alternative place 'more suitable'?

waves not covering the babies head

If you allow people the right to 'offer chairs' in places that are 'more suitable' then you need to figure out how that would accord with the right to 'breastfeed in public'

It's doesn't need to be allowed, as it's not illegal to offer chairs. It doesn't go against any act or law, made up or otherwise.

Given that math specifically excepted H&S issues, this falls extremely flat.

A Baby whose head was covered with waves would be a Health and safety issue. this was a foreseen danger by someone whose job it was to spot such dangers. The person doing their job offered alternative arrangments.

Math's whoel argument falls extremely flat.

And before we start ranting about the hundreads of other phantom mothers holding their children. YES a lifeguard would ask children to be removed from danger should he foresee a health and saftey issue, And yes children getting silly with excitment or anxious over the wave machine woudl be adivsed to ccalm down at the safety of the pool side.

So the facts

  1. nobody ask the woman to stop feeding
  2. nobody complained
  3. nobody hid her away
  4. nobody demanded she moved
  5. the babies head was at risk of being covered by a wave
  6. a lifeguard noticed this
  7. a chair was offered to avoid the health and safety issue which this may have caused.
    7)I typed 6 twice.

Angry lesbians? Hmm is math projecting her own issues into this argument?

More comfortable' is also an easy euphemism for 'secluded', and therefore should be avoided

And you maintain that others are making this sound like something out of Monty Python?? Shock Hmm

Sometimes it seems that, in pursuit of "offence" (and a possible claim?), even basic language is expected to be changed ...

8)instead of telling the Lifeguard she was okay, or saying no to the chair, the woman went batshit crazy, mad with power, turned green, her eyes became wide with pound signs, her jaw became swollen and she display the batshit crazy behaviour you expect of a person who bullies an 11 year old on twitter.

  1. The pool has a very good record of supporting breastfeeding with a lot of people on this thread confirming how accomadating they have been from their own experiance.

English to math dictionary:

"Offered a chair" = "Fuck off and be secluded"
"Waves across the whole pool" = Waves up until the shallow part where they magically stop
Witnesses / A source / people who have been there = fucking liars
More comfortable = secluded
Lifeguard = Boob obsessed 17 year old
pool = Pool full of other non-breastfeeding mothers who are all holding their babies the same way
Do you understand = I dont' have a clue
i don't understand how = i don't have a clue
eqalities act = Buzzword
"boobs" = Breasts.

I was going to when math posted the other pool as proof this one was in the wrong.

Then told me to stick it in my pipe and smoke it.

Math I think I speak for everyone when i say we absolutely wish the swimming pool (both the water and surrounding areas) luck in in this case, and i can only hope you the person in question gets counter sued for loss of takings.

MangoMoon, the double dash only causes the strikeout if used as shown in the 'Emphasis' section.

Clearly that is how you were using it then.

If you're having trouble reading my posts on your device I suggest you contact MNHQ as there is clearly some sort of glitch causing your difficulty.

Not just me, others too.
But in the world according to Math, it is everyone else who is wrong.

FYI, a double dash does not cause a strikeout. A strikeout is caused by a double dash where it is not separated by a space on either end from the word between the dashes. If you type a double dash on either side of a word and leave a space between the dashes and the word, then you should not cause a strikeout.

Obviously you weren't following the strikeout procedures properly then.

The problem is not mine but MN's.

The problem is always someone else's....
