Mother sues for £20k for being discouraged from bf while the wave machine was on

Daily Mirror link to the story here.

I'm totally for breastfeeding wherever and whenever, but I wouldn't want to eat my sandwiches in a swimming pool - they are so germy, like a human soup, so not sure a swimming pool with a wave machine on would be the best place to bf. Plus, obviously in this case there was the waves.

I realise that getting out of the water, especially if she had other kids, with a hungry baby would be a massive faff, but wouldn't the wave machine splash the baby and make it choke?

Serious question: AIBU to think this? Is bf in a swimming pool a done thing? Genuinely curious.

feeding a baby in a pool is a good way to calm a fractious child. Maybe without the wave machine on though. I think the wave machine is a major factor in all this.

FattyMcFatFace · 03/05/2016 10:52

She surely wouldn't feed her kids a sandwich in the pool? Or eat her lunch?
Get out, sit down, bf, and stop being a fecking eejit.

MsHoolie · 03/05/2016 10:55

I used to work at a large public swimming pool.. dear Lord God I would not feed my baby in one!
Gross. (If you saw the chemicals we used to clean the scum off the sides you'd never open your mouth in the water again!)

What were the circumstances here?
Was she just sat in a 'beach' type area? Or Was she riding the waves?

Looks to me like an opportunist who deliberately did something so outre she was bound to be pulled on it ... DING DING DING!! LAWSUIT!!! (Probably publically funded too!!)

2girlsonemum · 03/05/2016 11:09

I'm all for breastfeeding and will do it wherever I am; as long as it's appropriate, for instance (in my opinion) a toilet or a germy swimming pool would be completely inappropriate! You wouldn't want to stand in the pool and have a picnic so why would it then be fine to feed a small baby there?!? Apart from that, this woman was putting her baby at risk, due to the waves...... Sounds to me like one of two things, she's either a complete attention seeker or someone out to make a quick buck anyway she can! Unfortunately, there does seem to be plenty of people like this about nowadays Angry

BettyBleue · 03/05/2016 11:15

She's just a stupid, selfish attention seeking idiot. I'm all in favour of breast feeding, but doing it in a pool is unhygienic as the baby could vomit afterwards and I wouldn't like to swim in anyone's vomit!

ameliaesmith · 03/05/2016 11:39

YANBU, that's ludicrous IMHO, and to then sue for £20k society has gone mad!

orchidnap · 03/05/2016 11:43

I know the woman concerned. The wave machine wasn't on at the time, and she isnt sung for 20k.

orchidnap · 03/05/2016 11:44

Also she hasnt goven this story to the paper and didnt want any atention. The story was told to the sun by the pool cncerned, and she refused to speak to them. they had a hidden photographer taking photos of her while she was leaving the house refusing to speak to their reporter.

Jasonandyawegunorts · 03/05/2016 11:44

A lot fo people know her.

Floggingmolly · 03/05/2016 11:46

The pool staff alerted the Sun newspaper? Get out of it... For a lady who doesn't want any attention; she draws it on herself like a magnet, don't you think?

CoolforKittyCats · 03/05/2016 11:47

I know the woman concerned

Oh the third person on the thread that 'knows' the person.

So what exactly are they suing for then....

CoolforKittyCats · 03/05/2016 11:49

they had a hidden photographer taking photos of her while she was leaving the house refusing to speak to their reporter.

Rubbish. The picture is of her posing with the baby in The Mirror.

orchidnap · 03/05/2016 11:53

They took that photo from social media.

NeedACleverNN · 03/05/2016 11:56

Her Twitter is certainly not "attention seeking" in the slightest is it?

OrangesandLemonsNow · 03/05/2016 11:56

Not all the pictures are from SM.

You seem to know an awful lot about it

Where you there?

MangoMoon · 03/05/2016 11:57

So is she usually very private & doesn't like to court attention orchidnap?

MangoMoon · 03/05/2016 11:59

Coolfirkittycats someone else way up thread said they knew her and that they 'weren't surprised'....

orchidnap · 03/05/2016 12:00

Regardless of your opinion on her, the pool staff broke the law.

If you agree with that or not, if a good discussion. making personal comments about an actual person and hoping they read them, how is that kind to anyone?

Jasonandyawegunorts · 03/05/2016 12:01

Regardless of your opinion on her, the pool staff broke the law.

No they didn't.

joannee78 · 03/05/2016 12:01

We're becoming too American- suing for anything and everything. It needs to stop! She should be more concerned for the safety of her baby as opposed to feeling offended by being asked to stop breast feeding while it lasted s dangerous. Just ridiculous and I feel sorry for her children as she obviously car s more form obey than them.

OrangesandLemonsNow · 03/05/2016 12:02

the pool staff broke the law.

Where you there?

Jasonandyawegunorts · 03/05/2016 12:02

There is no law regarding asking someone if they would like a seat.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 03/05/2016 12:03

Nice try, orchidnap Grin

joannee78 · 03/05/2016 12:03

Sorry- predictive text. She cares more about money than her children's safety. Poor kiddies!

orchidnap · 03/05/2016 12:03

So maybe you should all just be discussing that, whether you think the actions of the pool were ok.

Not trawling the internet to look for her posts and discussing what you thnk of her as a person.

Imagine if you ound people doing that to you how youd feel?
