To think the 28 days 28 weeks later films are the best zombie films?

Home alone with grumpy teething baby, luckily he's slept lots and while I could be using his sleeping time to clean, I used it to watch 28 days later and 28 weeks later. They were made 2002 and 2007 and are by far my favourite zombie films. Avid walking dead fan as well.
Maybe it's because I was a fresh faced 18 year old when it first came out and I associate it with being able to go to the cinema whenever I wanted?!

Well season 3 of z nation is out later on this year apparently so it hasn't ended yet. I'm curious though.

TheUnsullied · 30/04/2016 18:50

Ah, I think there's only 1 season of Z Nation on Netflix. That explains things!

gamerchick · 30/04/2016 18:51

Didn't z nation just start out as a bit of a joke though and they were surprised people took to it? You cant take it seriously its meant to be a bit more TIC lighthearted I think.

When I recently rewatched 28 Days Later I was a bit Hmm about the beginning.

A man wakes up from a coma to discover there has been an apocalypse. Sound familiar?

But which came first 28 Days or TWD?

Not sure, but Day Of The Triffids came before either.

GetAHaircutCarl · 30/04/2016 19:04

Good point JAP.

It's just when I watched 28 Days even the scene framing looked familiar.

Don't get me wrong, all writers borrow, beg and steal, that's not my issue.

LBOCS2 · 30/04/2016 19:09

I think TWD comic came out just before 28 Days film. I remember reading something with TWD's directors who deliberately didn't want to change the comic's opening sequence despite it being so similar.

icebearforpresident · 30/04/2016 19:10

28 days later was 2002,TWD comic started in 2003.

yes I googled both these things

GetAHaircutCarl · 30/04/2016 19:12

That's what I figured.
Comic first.
Then 28 Days.
Then TWD series.

I really like the use of ignorance of the disaster actually. It really helps the set up without too much exposition; we find out what's going on alongside the MC.

GetAHaircutCarl · 30/04/2016 19:13

Ooh ice that's a surprise!

Kirkmsn owes Boyle.

DraenorQueen · 30/04/2016 19:19

Z Nation series one was AWESOME, series two was crap.
I also liked the mini series of the stand. I remember when it was on telly and my parents allowed me (age approx 8) to watch it. Well done parents. It scared ,e to death but I bloody loved it!!! I LOVE wondering how I'd survive in the event of civilization's demise..... wanders over to preppers board

howtorebuild · 30/04/2016 19:22

When does Feat the walking dead, season two begin on Prime?

duckyisback · 30/04/2016 19:34

Try the original Night of the Living Dead. It's awesome.

Just avoid the 30-year anniversary edition with new footage inserted. They even had the bloke who played that first original cemetery zombie back for new scenes.

Who thought that having a character, even if a zombie, be 30-years older or younger between one appearance on screen and the next, be a good idea.

Cass168 · 03/05/2016 07:08

Just seen this thread so a bit late to the party, but I'm glad I'm not the only one who watched the two 28 films the other day.
The scene in 28 Days in the mansion with the amazing slow-build music where Jim goes to rescue Selina is one of the best set-pieces (is that the right word?) in ANY film, not just the horror genre, imo. The fact that they use the same piece of music about 700 times in the sequel is disappointing as it takes away its impact.
And I liked the running zombies / infected. Nice idea. Where did all the people go though? There should've been way more infected running around. Anyway...

KingJoffreyLikesJaffaCakes · 03/05/2016 07:13

YABU.

The best zombie film is Braindead. No contest.

KingJoffreyLikesJaffaCakes · 03/05/2016 07:13

Cillian Murphy is fucking lush though...

Cass168 · 03/05/2016 07:16

^ Yes! He's just beautiful. And 40 now. How can he still look 25?!

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 03/05/2016 08:17

Cillian Murphy is 40? Bastard!

StillDrSethHazlittMD · 03/05/2016 08:46

I never saw Shaun of the Dead until it was on TV. I was very "meh" about it and didn't understand the fuss. Whereas Cockneys Vs Zombies had me laughing out loud like a drain and is so much funnier. One got huge distribution because of Pegg, the other hardly any distribution. The scene with Richard Briers escaping from a zombie on a zimmer frame is genius.

UterusUterusGhali · 03/05/2016 08:56

The fast zombies on 28dl are terrifying.

Is braindead the kiwi one with the priest & lawn mower scene? If so it's brilliant!

abigamarone · 03/05/2016 09:11

I've always thought 28 days later and the walking dead were deliberately paying homage to day of the triffids with their openings.
No-one's mentioned Resident evil - I quite like that. Despite not really having a clue about the storyline.

abigamarone · 03/05/2016 09:14

And I don't really like 'funny' horror films but found Dead Snow 2 quite charming (Nazi zombies).
