To think the 28 days 28 weeks later films are the best zombie films?

Home alone with grumpy teething baby, luckily he's slept lots and while I could be using his sleeping time to clean, I used it to watch 28 days later and 28 weeks later. They were made 2002 and 2007 and are by far my favourite zombie films. Avid walking dead fan as well.
Maybe it's because I was a fresh faced 18 year old when it first came out and I associate it with being able to go to the cinema whenever I wanted?!

DraenorQueen still no word on the stand Angry BUT I did see that Cell has been made into a movie with Samuel l Jackson! Very excited for that!

JAPABimtheonewhoknocks · 30/04/2016 16:43

Agree about the opening credits of 2004 Dawn. I wouldn't say anyone is unreasonable for their preferences but I think the original George Romero ones were best, and Land wasn't bad either.

Found 28 Weeks Later a bit irritating in the way the action scenes were directed. The camera was flying about so much I couldn't easily tell what was going on.

At the more "video nasty" end of the spectrum I did see a few back in the day, and two stand outs for me were Zombie Flesheaters and The Zombie Dead (aka Burial Ground).

ghostyslovesheep · 30/04/2016 16:44

Oh I quiet like the clunky mini series of The Stand Grin

JAPABimtheonewhoknocks · 30/04/2016 16:45

Oh yes. I am legend too

And The Omega Man which came before it (although not zombies). But think the book they are both based on is best of all.

mmgirish · 30/04/2016 16:49

Both good films but I loved World War Z and I'm really looking forward to the sequel to that.

Have you been watching the new season of Fear the Walking Dead?

Gide · 30/04/2016 17:17

Love it, love the whole town is empty type scenario. Resident Evil films are also fab.

gamerchick · 30/04/2016 17:35

Did you watch the other ending of I am legend which made will smith into a serial killer? I prefered that one to the Hollywood ending.

I'm watching fear the walking dead.. There are a a couple I really want to get eaten.

cruikshank · 30/04/2016 17:37

I agree about Night of the Living Dead. Also, Braindead is fucking brilliant! I don't think I've seen a more gory film and it's very funny.

28 days is a masterpiece, I think and I do like the Zoombies (as I prefer to call them). 28 Weeks not so much, although the opening sequence is totally awesome.

I am just about to start on Walking Dead (1st series! - I know, I know; years after everyone else...)

FirstWeTakeManhattan · 30/04/2016 17:41

When I was at work, I'd idle away a good half an hour working out my zombie escape route.

I cannot abide gory films, I think they're awful. I like a good terrifying, bloodless scare though. Grin

FirstWeTakeManhattan · 30/04/2016 17:41

That said, I did see 28 Days and think it was beautifully filmed. The music was stunning as well.

TheUnsullied · 30/04/2016 17:54

I quite liked Dead Set (mini series rather than movie). Worth a watch.

Agreed about 28 weeks. Love Zombieland and Dawn of the Dead (remake).

icebearforpresident · 30/04/2016 17:57

Totally forgot idris elba was in 28 weeks Smile

Love both of them but 28 days is the better film. Those shots of London at the start are incredible.

There were reports a few months ago that 28 MONTHS later was in pre-production and that Danny Boyle was attached somehow, will see if I can find a link

cruikshank · 30/04/2016 17:59

Ooh, I seem to remember hearing about 28 months as well.

Treeroot · 30/04/2016 18:01

I thought 28 Days was great, but I didn't like 28 weeks at all - it felt too much like a standard American horror film.

Generally though, I hate speedy zombies. You need to be able to walk past a zombie.

gamerchick · 30/04/2016 18:02

Dead sets mint, takes the mick out of BB fans Grin davinas a proper sport.

duckyisback · 30/04/2016 18:08

Brain dead is definitely worth a watch!

Gamer just caught up with fear the walking dead. I'm in love with the heroin addict, can't remember his name! Confused

Cruik why so late?!? Shock you will love it!

I was in hospital once and the nurses contacted my dm to tell her they had accidentally given me an overdose and I was hallucinating because I was telling the nurse I was in the worst place should there be a zombie outbreak. They hadn't overdosed me. I was deadly serious!

cruikshank · 30/04/2016 18:12

I know, duckyisback. I have been very remiss. I aim to make up for lost time though!

Love the nurse/zombie outbreak story! Although, you never know, you could always end up being the Cillian Murphy/bandaged eye (in Day of the Triffids) character in which case, winner.

gamerchick · 30/04/2016 18:13

Nick? I want him eaten me Grin

LBOCS2 · 30/04/2016 18:16

Has anyone seen Z Nation? I was thinking about giving that a go soon...

gamerchick · 30/04/2016 18:26

Z nation is good, it took me a couple of goes because its more comedy like but I ended up really enjoying it. Its worth sticking with definitely.

DrHarleenFrancesQuinzel · 30/04/2016 18:26

Mine and DH's first date was to see 28 days later.

ginghambox · 30/04/2016 18:29

Z nation is made by the same company that made Sharknado, 2/3 headed shark attack etc. It doesn't take itself seriously having said that there is more action in 1 episode than entire series of TWD.

TheUnsullied · 30/04/2016 18:31

Is all of Z Nation on Netflix? If so, I hate the way it ended! And didn't really think it fitted well in the genre if I'm honest.

I loved Dead Set. I'm not a BBC fan nowadays but did recognise some ex contestants. Charlie Brooker should write more of that kind of thing.

ApocalypseNowt · 30/04/2016 18:47

Dead Set is fab.

There's a really cool scandinavian zombie film (I think Norweigan) called Dead Snow. It is about nazi zombies. Defo worth a watch but it is on the gorier side of things (even for a zombie flick).

I can't get into Z Nation but i might give it another go. I need something to tide me over until TWD comes back.
