to take the bath out of our three bedroom house - will it make it harder to sell?

Thinking of taking the bath out of our small bathroom and just having a shower. Three bedroom house so hen we come to sell, families would be the target market. Would you buy a house with no bath (with a bathroom where there wasn't really room to add one). We have two young kids but they love showers so wouldn't really bother us, but don't want to make a change that reduces the value / makes it harder to sell..

Meh. We have a 4 B house (2 bed extension) with a tiny bathroom, we ripped out the bath and put in an amazing walk in rainforest style shower and it's AMAZING.

We don't have any plans to sell though.

If you position all the other fixtures carefully, it won't be a huge job to remove the shower and put in a bath at a later date, if you decide to sell.

This is a fashion thing I'm sure. Someone I know (a relation) had a house designed (3 bathrooms) with no baths! I couldn't get over that, I think one is needed, I love a bath when I'm freezing cold after a walk on the hills in the winter.

FuckoffJournoScum · 29/04/2016 20:20

I wouldn't buy a house if the main bathroom wasn't even big enough for a bath to fit in. My last house just fit a sink, toilet and bath in the main bathroom and felt cramped. If you couldn't even do that it would be an instant no for me.

NeedAGrip · 29/04/2016 20:20

I wouldn't consider buying a family home without a bath.

reup · 29/04/2016 20:21

My friend sold her family house with no bath in a week so not everyone would be put off.

AndNowItsSeven · 29/04/2016 20:21

Our house had no bath for 18 months. We moved when I was 2 months pregnant with twins. I sobbed I wanted a bath so much.

neonrainbow · 29/04/2016 20:21

I wouldn't view a family house with no bath. Showers are very impractical.

Oysterbabe · 29/04/2016 20:22

I hate baths but need one for my baby. I think it would be silly to take it out if you are aiming at families.

Sparklycat · 29/04/2016 20:23

I wouldn't view a house with only a shower

HuskyLover1 · 29/04/2016 20:24

Nah, you will seriously reduce the price of your house. Families need baths.

homeiswheretheginis · 29/04/2016 20:24

Don't do it. I don't have baths myself but as others have said, my son has one every night. I don't know anyone with a toddler that has a shower instead. Think of the buyers - any kind of "unusual" bathroom arrangement will alienate a section of your potential market...

StripeyDeckchair · 29/04/2016 20:25

Take the bath out & put in a decent sized shower. I did & have never regretted it. Showers are more energy efficient, use less water & are far more hygienic.

Ragwort · 29/04/2016 20:28

Personally I love a bath, have one every evening - just wondering now if it is too early for my bath Grin. I would be very unlikely to even look at a house without a bath.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 29/04/2016 20:33

It wouldn't put me off if I could put a bath back in. But as you would be taking away that option, I wouldnt buy it. I like a bath.

Marcipex · 29/04/2016 20:34

I love my bath, it's down time.
Children need a bath imo, a shower doesn't do the same job.

diddl · 29/04/2016 20:36

If you feel that you don't need a bath, then why not?

You are the ones living there atm!

Just a shower would be fine for us.

We have a bath & no one would miss it.

JasperDamerel · 29/04/2016 20:42

I have a ridiculously tiny bedroom that barely fits a bath, but there's no way that I would take it out and replace it with a shower. I love baths, as do DP and the children.

19lottie82 · 29/04/2016 20:46

I'm amazed at all these people who say they wouldn't even view a family home without a bath!

It's not always a huge job / expense to put one in, if you like the rest of the house.

Noodledoodledoo · 29/04/2016 20:47

I did look at houses without baths when we were buying but as a pp said reduced possible offers to compensate for the bathroom to be redone.

Most of the time the rest of the house wasn't enough to make me want to offer so it did put me off a lot.

This was both when buying a starter home and a family home. I LOVE my baths and can spend an afternoon soaking!

My concern with your plan is to change the room so a bath is never possible - I had a short bath in my old house and although it was ok bent knees got a bit cold! Removing the possibility is a much bigger step.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 29/04/2016 20:47

It wouldn't put me off. I hate baths and think they're a waste of time so a decent shower would be a selling point. We're about to rip the bath out and fit a shower but we're in a flat so it probably won't affect the selling price if we ever move.

Lonelynessie · 29/04/2016 20:50

I live in a house with no bath and I fucking hate it. It's really hard with young children and times like now when I have a stinking cold I just need a long soak. I can't wait to move to a house with a bath!

diddl · 29/04/2016 20:52

If I wanted a house badly enough then having to take a shower out to put a bath in wouldn't put me off.

Divathecat · 29/04/2016 20:55

It must fit otherwise it wouldn't be there

JennyOnAPlate · 29/04/2016 20:56

No I wouldn't buy a house with no bath. I might if there was room to have one put in, but definitely not if there wasn't.

AgingJuvenileBinkyHuckaback · 29/04/2016 20:58

I would happily buy a house with no bath and get one put back in, (if my total budget allowed for the work) but if you'd shrunk the bathroom so that I couldn't then yes, I'd rule the house out. I think you're right to change your mind.
