to take the bath out of our three bedroom house - will it make it harder to sell?

Thinking of taking the bath out of our small bathroom and just having a shower. Three bedroom house so hen we come to sell, families would be the target market. Would you buy a house with no bath (with a bathroom where there wasn't really room to add one). We have two young kids but they love showers so wouldn't really bother us, but don't want to make a change that reduces the value / makes it harder to sell..

I wouldn't. My DD hates showers and a lot of young children I know are the same.

We bought a house last year and didn't even bother to view those without a bath as we knew we didn't want one. So, only speaking from my own experience, but I think it would make it harder to sell.

Could you make the change in such a way that a bath could easily be put back in again in the future, so you could do that before selling?

I think it would put people off. As long as there's a bath people have then option of bathing or showering.

When I bought my previous house it had been owned by an elderly gentleman who only had showers. It all came out so a bath could go in.

I bought a 3 bed last year with a nearly 2yr old. We wouldn't have bought one without a bath unless it was cheap and the bathroom needed gutting anyway and there was room for one (even a corner one)

How soon are you planning on moving?

You could get rid and then put one back in before you sell.

I mostly shower but like the option of a bath so it'd put me off.

We bought a house without a bath but it was in need of modernisation and one of the tasks was installing a new bathroom (complete with bath). I know flats with shower only are becoming more popular but I think in a house it would probably affect the selling price.

i wouldnt buy a house that didnt have a bath, however as long as there is space for a bath to be fitted back in then it wouldnt be a problem for me as

I wouldnt care, I grew up in house without a bath and dont really care for them now. I know a lot of british people prefer it though so would hesitate a little too in terms of selling. So if you are planning to sell soon I wouldnt but if it is more of next 10 years or so then I would go with the change.

I've heard it shouldn't affect your asking price but tbh I wouldn't buy a place without a bath unless I was planning on renovating the bathroom anyway and there was space for one.

My DP knows that I ask for little, but 90 minutes in the bath on a weekend afternoon with a glass of wine is my 'me time'.

He gives zero fucks as this is his 'me time' too. Also known as 'FIFA time' Grin

I bought a 3 bedroom house without a bath last year and installed one as soon as I moved in. If there hadn't been enough space to do that though, I wouldn't have bought it.

We bought our house without one even though l told the EA l didn't want to view it. Dh said and fell in love with it Hmm

Luckily dd1 was little and able to use a baby bath for 2.5 years as it took us 3 years to get around to doing the bathroom!

And it was a friggen PITA so l definitely wouldn't but one again without.

But I'm from Australia and all houses have bath and shower (but no toilet) in bathroom and l do bloody miss just a normal shower that l don't have to climb into.

I didn't look at houses when we were moving that didn't have a bath. I can't stand them but my kids like them, even now dd2 hates showers.

Sounds the like the vote is unanimous!!! Plan would be to reduce size of bathroom to gain space in a bedroom so there wouldn't be room to put a bath back in once we'd made the bathroom smaller. Helpful comments though, maybe not the way to go!!

We bought a house last year where the bath had been removed and the vey first job we did was put the bath back in at a fair expense.

We still bought out house because we loved it and it was easy to sort. The previous owners took it out as the chap was terribly elderly and a large shower made perfect sense.

Live in the home you have as you want it now. Don't worry about selling on as if someone loves it they will want it anyway

It wouldn't necessarily put me off, but I would budget for a new bathroom and have it fitted immediately. I'd knock the cost off the offer I made.

Can you not put a really good quality shower over the bath, and buy a bath with a shower screen? We've got an Aqualisa shower above our bath, it's brilliant.
