I know the flag should be St George's, not the Union flag, but it was the best I could find.......

There's no bloody way as a Yorkshire person that I will ever use a red rose to symbolise anything about this country.

I have been doubting that it's St Georges Day. nothing on Facebook, nothing on google, nothing on Mumsnet. The Dragon isn't listed on the smileys list.

Seems Saint Georges day largely goes uncelebrated, I don't know why tbh.
It's as though the English are semi-ashamed to be patriotic. The only time you really see our flag is when the footballs on, bit of a shame really.

I had a happy St George's day from Facebook, complete with a snappy graphic.

I'm part-Yorkshire, and have no problem with the red rose. I also go to France and Spain, and have German friends, because, you know, we move on.

I don't think it's ever really been celebrated much though has it? Not like St Patrick's day;

I think it needs to become associated with getting pissed out of your head, then it'll be celebrated.

I swear the most popular holidays in the UK are the ones associated with getting hammered.

You're right, Mavis, but I think it would be nice if the English could take a similar pride in our national day in the same way that people from Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales do.

I think it's a shame that the flag of St George, and things with English in the name, became synonymous with racism and thuggery, and still are, to some extent. It needs to be reclaimed, but it's a slow process.

I don't remember St Andrews being much if a thing either. Nor burns night - although I insist on it these days as I love a nice (veggie) haggis.

I find the apathy about St George's Day to be more quintessentially English than celebrating it.

As has been said, this is why we have the isn't it? Or is in in homage to me. Although I am not red.
