AIBU to Worry that Mumsnetters Can be Too Mean and Judgemental?

I first posted on MN several years ago (under a different name) to ask other mums what they thought of a difficult relationship situation I was in. I literally had nowhere else to turn. The replies I had were many and varied but the negativity I received over a pretty reasonable subject was unbelievable. It put me off to be honest. I'm not some do-goody prat and I like to spout off at the best of times, but sometimes reading the highlighted posts on here makes me think of how when we are all in shops and our trolley or basket bumps someone else's and we all fall over ourselves to say 'oops sorry' , but then when in our cars protected by the metal and distance we shout and swear and let rip at the slightest thing!!

Are there any kind Mumsnetters out there who can restore my faith in MN that we are here to support each other and not be evil or nasty? Constructive/helpful comments or constructive criticism is different to just being mean. BTW I'm not a fluffy wetty, I just hate pointless negativity!

The trick in The Range is head straight for all the plastic tubs. Place children in tub large enough with wheels, then push around store at your leisure. Grin

HoneyDragon yes, I've been a member here for years (got directed here by a fab thread on reclaiming PPI from Google) saw Style and Beauty and Chat and never left. So I never joined MN because of the mum aspect because I'm not one! Been here over 5 years on and off, was here for the infamous Liz Jones at party one (hilarious) and a few others (not the dragon butter or penis beaker!). In my view there are not a huge amount of message and chat boards like MN which is why I stay. I also like the fact that if you are being a complete twunt (eg bitch) you get called on it, however if you apologise (which I have done) that goes down very well.

My fave boards are the health ones, Chat, S&B, Litter Tray, Telly Addicts, etc. I am increasingly getting fed up of AIBU which is nice to post a comment to a thread on but if you dare use an abusive term or phrase something wrong you get leapt on and flamed until kingdom come.

However I have the hide of a rhino so bounce back easily. I also understand that many here have "off days". I also have a busy working life and life outside of work.

Very interesting re a few mum and child threads recently where the mum has taken a complete hammering (where I actually took a fairly non biased stance) sometimes unfairly because they are being a bit entitled. That surprised me, I'd have thought all MN would be firmly on the side of the mums.

I do like the funny threads though and the woo stuff. MN at its best can be great, a lot of fun and hugely supportive but at its worst it can be downright mean, nasty and very schoolyard.

I do think we should remember that some here are keyboard warriors and hide behind their screens, but also I do wish sometimes there was less of the goadyness and cliqueyness.

There... Having a very productive morning up early, flatmate going away but intern still here so doing the washing and an online shop order (a bit late).

Mrs V one of the village post offices near me does Chipsticks! I like the salt and vinegar ones. I will find out where they get the ready salted ones, I know they are like hen's teeth.
