to warn you Tesco's new nappies now cause rashes!?

I've used Tesco own brand nappies for nearly 2 years now and they've been great.

However, they have recently changed the design (change NOT indicated on the packaging) to have a stretchy waistband at the back. As you can see in the photos the old ones are completely smooth and the new ones are rumpled and stretchy.

I thought this was fine at first but after a couple of days I noticed my toddler has developed a red rash in the exact area where the waistband has changed - see photo. It's such a distinctive shape there is no doubt that the nappy caused it.

I have phoned Tesco and they simply told me to return them to the store for a refund.

AIBU to think this is not a satisfactory response and to ask MNers to reconsider buying these in future especially if your children have sensitive skin?

I will be buying Morrisons nappies instead from now on. Fortunately we'll be potty training in a few months.

We've (well son and dil) have had the same problem! About 6 weeks ago they notified Tesco. You're not the only one.

What do you want Tesco to do?

Some babies don't suit some nappies. It's just the way it is.

The ones in the green pack? I noticed they'd changed the stretchyness, but they're not marking DD on her back.

They do seem smaller since the change tho. Maybe you need to just buy a bigger size?

My son (16 months) had bad skin from these too, his was chafing on the inner thighs.

I've switched back to Pampers and it has completely gone.

This happened with our son and those nappies too. The active ones haven't changed yet!

Morrison nappies gave my son the same rash, 3 years ago.

We changed to Asda. Some just don't suit some kids.

If you really think it's a major issue. Email them.

They were fine as they were. Hence why we all bought them by the bucketload in the first place.

I've never used the tesco ones but I have used the asda ones. the nappies had clumps in them like little crystals. I phoned the head office and they gave me a £15 gift voucher and also told me to take them back to the store so in total I got £25 back all because I complained.

they can't really do much but should do more than just saying go back to the store as it's an health and safety hazard.

My older ds had awful problems with nappies (even terry ones) we tried normal Tesco with the same result. In desperation when Huggies (they still gave him a rash but not as badly as the other brands) were no longer an option we tried the supermarket value ones. Never had a problem again, presumably because they contained half the crap of usual disposables as a way of cutting costs. Give them a try, we never had any more leaks than with the bug brands.

The fact that within 10 minutes of posting this 3 people have mentioned the same issue tells me that they can't have tested the product extensively enough.

Some children react differently to different products.

It was naughty of tescos to not put somewhere on the packaging that the product has changed.

DS has had nappy rash recently whereas he had never had it before. I hadn't thought the nappies might have caused it but it does tie in with when they changed the shape of them.

We currently use the tesco green nappies but just for overnight as a bit more absorbent. We did notice the change in the design, but touch wood we haven't experienced any rashes yet. It might be because he isn't wearing them often but will definitely keep an eye out now. Thanks for the heads up

Some babies just react very differently to nappies. We only use asda or pampers in this house because they have been perfect for both our DDs.

Brands will change all the time. Maybe there were more complaints about the older version than many have believed so they had to change them. The stretchy thing can mean all the difference in better fitting around the back. It could be that you need the next size up as sizing may have slightly changed without any other initial signs. We just had to up our DD on size. Even though weight and initial fastening looked fine, after a couple of hours us it was very clear the nappy was a little too small for her.

Same problem here. Luckily, my LO is nearly ready for potty training, so it's not too much of a disaster.

Sainsburys do this to DD so we switched to Tesco. Looks like I will be trying Lidls ones now.

I don't have a problem with them, I think they're better than before. But nothing suits everyone.

Incidentally, I've reported your OP. I wouldn't want someone to post nude pics of me online and I doubt children do either.

My sensitive skinned baby is just fine with them.
Why do people think a problem they have must be a problem for everyone else_?

These nappies caused my ds to have an eczema flare up on his back near the elastic.

Oh we use Tesco active ones, I just bought a load. I wonder if they will be the same?!
DS had really bad nappy rash when little and only Tesco or Boots were any good. I'll be gutted if they start giving him a rash! I agree with another poster that the value ones are actually OK. I often use them during the day when no poo is due (just to be on safe side)! They've never leaked and probably do have less crap in them as more basic.

Definitely email them. It's bad of them nor to put anything on the packaging. Normally they stick 'new & improved' over everything!

OP not much you can do, just switch brands. Same thing has happened to us, it's a pain but defo first world problem!
