To not want to wait until Feb 2017 to have my dangerous tumble drier repaired

Anyone else experiencing this? Hotpoint - hilarious. They've actually quoted next February for my repair. A friend of mine demanded an instant replacement under her statutory rights because they'd sold her an unfit product - and got it! Gonna try the same.

A repair in 10 months Shock. That sounds outrageous - what's their excuse?
In that situation I would be thinking about if I could get a refund not a repair/replacement....

It's ridiculous isn't it. I've been waiting 6 months to have my indesit fixed. Ive lost so much confidence with it I'm thinking of just getting rid of it and not replacing.''

It's a faulty model. Must be thousands of them. They have been inundated with people registering for free repairs and have had to take on new call centre staff and engineers. But that's not exactly my problem!

Grumpy - don't let them get away with it!! Money saving expert says ask for a refund, try the shop you bought it from or try your credit card company. They all share responsibility

Did you buy from them directly? Your contract is with whoever sold it to you, so you may do better trying to go through the retailer - they may have other makes...

I'm still waiting for them to fix my Indesit. Haven't even been given an approximate date. The thing isn't even a year old, almost makes me wish I hadn't bought one in the first place.

I reported in December. Got a date for July for a repair.AngryAngryAngry
Decided enough was enough after watching the news last night where yet another house had burnt to the ground and the Fire service advice was 'Do not use your tumble drier'

Complained on their Fb page last night following news at 6pm. Low and behold, they sent an email today to confirm I have been booked in for 03 May. Go on FB its the only way to get it sorted.

I had mine fixed the other week, I tried to get a refund but ao and indesit didn't give a shit, they said they were in their right to fix it.
Still don't trust the machine

Mine is supposed to be getting fixed next month but I doubt it will be. Apparently they are doing it in the order in which people have applied but friends of mine who live in larger towns have already had theirs fixed, I live out in the sticks.

It has been so badly handled, just a matter of time before someone dies because of their faulty machines.

My mum has got one of them. Apparently, hers will be repair next month. She's had it for ages too.

Almost a year to wait to see if a house hold appliance is safe to use.

I think they may have given themselves a very bad name over this. Well I for one certainly wouldn't go to them. As it seems they have no reguard for safe guarding

My mum registered as soon as the problem was flagged up. She's still waiting to hear from them. She ended up buying a new drier rather than risk the one she has. It's a total shambles

We got offered a new one for £99. We agreed as the dodgy one was 10 years old anyway.

We had ours fixed last week, it is only 14 months old and I was horrified when I saw the fluff build up inside the casing. It was out in the garage so the potential for fire damage was a bit less. While it was being modified our neighbour went past the end of the garden and remarked that she had a date for repair of November this year. Doesn't seem the most efficient repair program if they are sending their repairers here there and everywhere rather than doing all the repairs in one area.
Having seen the fluff built up inside ours I would be pushing them quite hard to try and get repair or replacement promptly.

I got a call from Hotpoint, I have an unusual surname, they wanted to speak to Mrs surname "Speaking" says I , it took a wee while to establish that they wanted to talk to me about my tumble drier, thing is I don't have one I have a Siemans washer drier! "Wasn't I Mrs surname?" "yes says I "I'm Mrs Hazelbite surname they put the 'phone down.
I wouldn't have much confidence in them, surely if someone has contacted them about a dodgy tumble drier they would have recorded their details and not relied on the 'phonebook!

I think that Hotpoint have made a huge mistake with the way they have handled this. Surely the best way would have been to recall and replace all faulty tumble dryers.With all the extra engineers, call centre staff not to mention the bad publicity I'm sure it must be costing the company a lot more.

Hotpoint are in chaos at the moment. I need a repair to an oven I bought from them (brand new, fault became obvious before it was even switched on). It took me two days of calling every hour or so to get through to customer services- mostly the line drops before you can even get on hold, and when you are lucky enough to get that far you will be on hold for half an hour at least. Engineer was supposed to come last Thursday. Never showed up. No call to explain why and I then spent the rest of the day trying to get through to find out if he was coming/ to reschedule. More than 20 calls later and over an hour and a half on hold in total. Engineer is re-scheduled for this Thursday- fingers crossed that one shows up.

I would not advise anyone to buy a Hotpoint product at the moment.

i reported in november, heard nothing for ages, got sick of waiting and hearing that we're into 2017 for repairs, twittered about it, and had two missed phonecalls from them, they do not leave a message and you cannot call the number back.

there's a Scottish (i think) charity who are stating that the advice to carry on using EVEN if supervised is downright dangerous, so I linked to that in a comment on my page and they arranged to be out within a fortnight, that wasn't suitable so I had to postpone it, but it's been done now

I've friends on fb who are getting brand new ones for free, so that's an avenue worth exploring....mine was old enough to be out of g'tee, but not old enough that chucking more money at it was worthwhile

and it's out in the brick washhouse across the garden so at worst it was only going to set fire to the roof and some dodgy wellies.

When they are repaired make sure it is a proper hotpoint engineer and they take around an hour to do it. We had a subcontractor come out "fixed" in about 15 minutes. Thankfully he put something in wrong and broke it completely - when hotpoint sent someone proper out the next day it was established that this subcontractor hadn't been doing what he was supposed to and the dryer was still dangerous

I tried to book a repair for that fault and was told about 10 months. I didn't feel safe waiting so I reported a different fault in mine, I said it sounded like the belt had went. They put me down for a repair the next week. When the man came out and I told him I had checked and it was the model with the fault he fixed it there and then as he said once he had been at the machine he couldn't leave it not repaired. Maybe worth a shot trying that?

OP, presumably you purchased your drier before 30th September 2015. If so, the Sale of Goods Act applies.

From Which?:

Under the Sale of Goods Act, the retailer must either repair or replace faulty goods 'within a reasonable time but without causing significant inconvenience'.

Fascicle - that link is invaluable, thanks! I really don't think anyone should give in to this. Yes, surely it would have been cheaper for them to just send out replacements to everyone in the first place

I had one of the dodgy tumble dryers. Reported in Nov, in Feb came back saying it would be fixed in June (via generic email). I called to complain but after spending and hour on the phone was told that no one could help me...

Funnily enough day after I received another "generic" email saying I could have a brand new replacement, fitted for free, with the old one taken away for £99.

As our machine was already at least 6 years old we went for this option.

New one delivered within a week, fitted and old one taken away.

I find it hard to believe that the second email was automatically generated just a day after my call....

If you machine is older than 3 years I would see if you can get the same offer I did. Good luck

Mine was supposed to be fixed March 2016 so I've just got onto the live chat with them and I'm now booked in for next week.
