OP,if you have a drop of Danish blood in your veins(like most people in the UK),go for it!
Otherwise it is cultural appropriation from Denmark, the home of plaits.

I'm 47 and I plait my hair somedays. I think it's how you do them the older you get. Not too long, mine is shoulder length, and I wear them thick, loose and a bit messy. It looks cute... well I think so! :-D

MummyBex1985 · 15/04/2016 10:53

I'm 30 and my hair is currently in two French plaits.

Ironically it's the hairstyle that gets me the most compliments and makes me look about ten years younger

Depends on your style. I saw a rocker mum with her hair in bunches and it looked awesome. I came home and tried it and i looked like some sort of weird adult baby Angry

TheMaddHugger · 15/04/2016 11:34

meh, I'm 51 and often wear my hair in plaits. I don't care what others think. It's clean and neat.

Bahh Humbug

IAmALeafOnTheWindWatchHowISoar · 15/04/2016 11:54

Hi 5s MadHugger in solidarity.

I have two low bunches today that are all crinkly from the plaits yesterday and they are bra strap length.

Ba Humbug indeed.

IAmALeafOnTheWindWatchHowISoar · 15/04/2016 11:55

Derek I love your hair. It's gorgeous.

I also am in awe of ESD hair. I love bright hair! I miss my bright hair... but it needed a rest from all the bleaching :(

I'm 40 next year and might treat myself to galaxy hair. Which I would totally wear in two plaits, as I frequently do! It's one of the few hairstyles that doesn't give me a headache as I have very long, very thick wavy hair.

I had mad 'manga' hair extensions a few years ago and was warned that i had to plait it to sleep in because I could have strangled myself to death in my sleep due to the length and the nature of them...

BeaArthursUnderpants · 15/04/2016 14:35

I think 30 is the cutoff. At 25, if you work in a field where people dress casually (or on weekends), there is nothing wrong with dressing pretty young, including plaits. By 30, though, it's time to start cultivating a more grown-up style.

chandelierswinging · 15/04/2016 14:37

A colleague of mine was known for her trademark bunches and plaits. She retired a few years ago at almost 60. Afaik, she still wears them.

I think two Dutch braids look amazing. But I do wonder about age. 25 is fine, but I'm 32. I have fine hair in a long bob. My favourite at the moment is two French plaits down the back of my head but tied together into a half-up half-down style.

booksrock · 15/04/2016 14:52

I'm 35. I wear two plaits for home, on holiday etc. Not to the office.

In the office I have it swept up, or in one plait, or a low pony tail or half up/ half down.

I love two plaits, I think it looks fab,.

CoperCabana · 15/04/2016 14:53

I am 45 and my hair is in two plaits today. Two quite short, silly piglet ones. I think they look ace. I have put a shed load of make up on and I feel amazing.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 15/04/2016 14:56

I'm more interested in the aforementioned Adventure Time Doc Martens, tbh.... I do, however, have a (38 yr old) friend who wears her hair in two long plaits everyday (plaited from about jaw level, iyswim). It looks great!

CoperCabana · 15/04/2016 14:59

Although I suspect I look tragic, having read this thread.

LifeofI · 15/04/2016 15:04

Nothing wrong with it op

HolditFinger · 15/04/2016 15:11

Wow, Derek we have the same hair!

I'm almost 41 and still wear plaits sometimes. I gave up worrying about what's appropriate some years ago!

I'm significantly older (careering towards 40) and often wear plaits.

My hair is also long & thick and plaits keep it out the way.

I have to wear all my hair up and under a net and hat for work, so often resort to a french roll thing. Alternatively, I wrap plaits into low buns between my ears/nape of neck and secure with those corkscrew pins. On non-work days, I start my plaits higher so my buns sit above my ears, and channel my inner Princess Leia.

I am now off to source those Adventure Time Doc's.

Marmalade85 · 15/04/2016 15:23

Too old. Just wear one plait.

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 15/04/2016 15:38

I want Galaxy hair. Totally not suitable for my serious job. Maybe if I had some maternity leave though...
