Think cleaner stealing

Been here a month, came from advert with 2 references. Dd hid £50 in a drawer her grandma gave her- gone. She's also missing a couple of yoga pants. Plan to leave bait in view of dd's computer and film her.

Would the police accept this as evidence and what would happen? She has a CRB cert but stupidly I didn't photocopy it.

Would she get a mere caution for theft? I don't know all the ins and outs of the Theft Act but I'm pretty sure she'd be charged, not simply cautioned.

HormonalHeap · 16/04/2016 16:42

Unless she's helped herself to a key without my knowlege she doesn't have one. Dh wants to instal cctv all around the house as we only have outside.

She was with us for 5 weeks, 20 hrs pw often on her own. She adored our dog. I genuinely thought she was kind. Exactly Imperial, it wasn't that we left money out and she was tempted- she searched through bags and coat pockets where she must've had success before with change from dd's fare into college. And £50 from her drawer!

My last one was lovely but we moved and she couldn't get to us. I would love not to have a cleaner but need one.

Our cleaner nicked my gorgeous Swarovski pen. Doesn't sound a lot but it was one of those beautiful ones with little sparkly gems inside and was a gift from a pupil. Haven't trusted anyone in to clean since...

Don't even think of risking it; you've no way of knowing what else she might have taken, so please do change the locks urgently

I also think you're very wise to guard against the "upset" husband - and at least we now know the police can use videos such as yours in court!! Smile

HormonalHeap · 16/04/2016 17:09

Puzzled yes was fully expecting to be reprimanded for filming her. I know we'll have to change the locks. Dd had to give a written statement.

I am fully aware the 'cleaner' will tell them she found drugs in dd's room. We know dd smokes weed at parties and last summer went to Amsterdam. We've had the talk with her, searched her room and found nothing. I'm still very worried though I don't know why!

If your DD doesn't have drugs or drug paraphernalia then I wouldn't worry about that.

"Yes I know I stole but it was from someone who occasionally smokes weed so that makes it ok right?" Isn't a defence!

I hope she gets prosecuted and I hope you get your stuff back. Id be fuming!!!

Fratelli · 16/04/2016 17:56

Don't worry about the weed. Even if the police believed her they wouldn't come and search your house. They would need a warrant or your consent.

HormonalHeap · 16/04/2016 17:58

Just heard she's been arrestedSmile Wasn't expecting that!! Should be satisfied but somehow just feel sad.

OP posts:
MummyBex1985 · 16/04/2016 18:04

Don't feel sad. She's a scum bag and she brought it on herself.

ImperialBlether · 16/04/2016 18:08

You won't be the only person she's done it to, OP.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 16/04/2016 18:08

It may not be the first time she's done it, Heap; if she already has a record, perhaps the police approach might vary slightly

I think you said she mentioned going back to her home country because she's upset? If they bail her I imagine that will almost certainly happen ...

sepa · 16/04/2016 18:19

Glad she has been arrested. If she can do it to you then the terminal client of hers would be 'easy pickings' for someone like her!

I would get locks changed today. Make sure if her husband does come around that you record it as you could then apply for a restraining order I suppose

SabineUndine · 16/04/2016 18:24

You don't know how many other people she's been working for and how vulnerable they might be, so it's good that she's been arrested. Very stupid of her to take large amounts of money that you would clearly miss.

Scandimandy · 16/04/2016 18:27

We may have a similar issue going on, are there any threads around that talk about how to trap or catch someone stealing by secret video?

Thanks

HormonalHeap · 16/04/2016 18:43

Scandimandy here's what dd did- she has an apple laptop which she set to 'record'. The screen looked like it was off, the only giveaway was a tiny blue light which she covered with blue tac. Even the officer was impressed.

sykadelic · 16/04/2016 18:43

Glad she's been arrested as well. Hopefully you've stopped her from doing this to someone else. I would hope if it ends up in the newspaper other people will recognise her and realise they're not crazy and that their stuff IS going missing and she'll be punished for that as well :)

HormonalHeap · 16/04/2016 18:53

Yes Puzzled she said her husband won't 'let' her work in this country of this is what happens.

OP posts:
Puzzledandpissedoff · 16/04/2016 19:27

Ah yes, Heap - a claim that she's actually the victim

How drearily predictable Hmm
