Think cleaner stealing

Been here a month, came from advert with 2 references. Dd hid £50 in a drawer her grandma gave her- gone. She's also missing a couple of yoga pants. Plan to leave bait in view of dd's computer and film her.

Would the police accept this as evidence and what would happen? She has a CRB cert but stupidly I didn't photocopy it.

i think filming a trap is a good idea.

Nothing else noticed missing. Yup think filming's the way to go.

This is your second cleaner which had been stealing? Was that also from your daughter?

Olivia yes also from my daughter, although the last one also stole a couple of dh's new jumpers. I guess she has more trendy stuff than meGrin

You do not have to tell anyone about CCTV if it is inside your home. We caught a thief (OH's'friend) using a motion sensor camera.

No Coconutty, as I said earlier, the other one also stole 2 new jumpers from dh.

Just to update- Dd switched on her camera, scrunched up a £10 note and left it under some clothes, and I asked her to hoover dd's room. After she left we watched the footage.

As soon as she walked into the room she went for dd's bag. She actually sat down with it and spent 2 mins looking through it. She then found the money, slipped it in her pocket and began to search the pockets of all clothes in her wardrobe.(Bear in mind £50 had disappeared two days previously).

Dh and I confronted her. She denied the lot saying she was simply concerned as she'd found a weed grinder in dd's room and was looking for more evidence. (That's a separate problem that dh and I are on to). Her acting was Oscar worthy, saying her grandma taught nor not go steal from an early age. Dh explained the trust was gone and asked her to leave.

We watched the footage again, and just as we were about to switch off, saw her pick up a necklace, examine it for what seemed like ages and slip it in her pocket. Realising she must have taken more than we know, I texted her to say if the lot isn't sitting in a plastic bag before 10am this morning we're calling the police. Does anyone know the likely outcome if I do this using the recording as evidence?

I'd go to the police anyway tbh.

And RudeElf - you do know you don't actually need to be rude on every thread, don't you...? Hmm

I'd go to the police aswell op. The next person she does this to could be elderly and not notice for a while

Go to the police. If you had caught a stranger taking money and jewellery from your dd would you hesitate??

Go the police. Don't know about the evidence being used but let them deal with it. And change your locks.

What a vile woman

I would go to the police anyway, and you need to change your locks.

How horrible. I'd love to have a cleaner, but reading on here about all the stealing that goes on makes me forget that idea.

I second going to the police. Otherwise she will do this to someone else with her still clean CRB.

Because a post about how wonderful someone's cleaner is would be a waste of time. Ours is fantastic and her predecessors were too.

@OP - definitely go to the police. No idea what'll happen but don't allow her to get away with it, if you can help it.

Nothing will happen to you about the recording in your own house, the police won't bother about you doing that. definitely report her though.

Before we caught her yesterday, she told me she has found another job nearby to fit in with ours for a lady who has terminal cancer. No idea who this lady is unfortunately but know the road.

Would love to change her sneaky clean CRB certificate, especially as I know she's looking for nannying jobs too.

Cheeky mare. I had a cleaner who stole from me. She used to take £10 here and there so for ages I just wondered whether I'd spent it and forgotten it. Then there was definite proof and I felt so angry. I got in touch with a few other people she cleaned for locally and she'd been doing it to them too.

What are the laws wrt posting the video on your local FB sites if you get no joy from the police?

Assuming this is all true, then I certainly don't think there's a moral problem in doing so.

Chchchchange, cheekyConfused I'm not sure I would call theft cheeky? Love the Facebook idea.
Police are going to treat it as a burglary and are coming round today. Received a long text from her asking me to come and check her house for any items and telling me how upset her husband is and how she is so upset that she may go back to her home country....

Shocked at this! Wrt your last post, I hope she does! At least then she wouldn't be stealing from the lady who is terminal. Although may do it to others I suppose Sad I hope the police are useful.
