Biological fathers - Archbishop Welby

Very brave of Justin Welby to go public with this story. I have always admired his compassion and humanity. However, it makes me wonder how common it is for fathers to unknowingly not be the biological parent of their child? There was a recent thread which suggested a surprisingly high percentage. I wonder how many other high profile and ordinary families have this kind of secret?

And if I was pregnant and my partner asked for DNA testing, I would leave him.

squoosh · 10/04/2016 00:09

So an abuser knows his rape of a female family member will come to light when the child is born, what lengths do you think some abusers may go to in order to keep this abuse hidden?

fillingmakesmevom · 10/04/2016 00:19

Is all speculative, could also say that it would be a deterrent for some

cleaty · 10/04/2016 00:23

That is a very naive assertion filling.

fillingmakesmevom · 10/04/2016 00:26

Why Cleaty? I've seen many say that Rape occurs often due to the low conviction rates, because of lack of evidence.

More evidence, more convictions and hopefully less rape

Eustace2016 · 10/04/2016 07:08

I support DNA evidence at birth but I'd make couples pay for it, 50% each. It would be part of the savings you would need to build up before you had a child. If it were done along the lines of you do it unless you both file a form to say you object then that would probably work okay. However it is not likely to happen as it's quite expensive and so many women sleep around. The original figures were 30% iof babies not born to their supposed father. Newest figures 1 in 25 may be more accurate but it's a big problem for families and not fair on the child who should be allowed to know their genetic parent.

Also I wouldn't necessarily believe mother Welby. She may well have made it all up about never knowing and what a shock it was to her. The fact her son was checked because he looked so like his father surely meant some bells were rung in her head over the years.

Purplepicnic · 10/04/2016 07:12

I absolutely cringed last night while watching the news and they read out some statement from the mother about how she got drunk and 'went to bed' with this chap and their protection didn't work etc.

I mean really. Do we need to know that? On the national news? None of our bloody business!

LarrytheCucumber · 10/04/2016 07:33

I am sure 'Celebs' reveal much worse Purple.

Who exactly does this benefit?

Ok so a child finds out that 'dad' isn't dad. The shit hits the fan and 'dad' leaves. Assuming he is the main income earner he stops providing for his family.
What then. Seriously biological dad is named. Shit hits the fan in that household as he was with someone else at the time. That family breaks up . Biological dad then claims he can't support 2 sets of families.
Sods off meets another woman packs job in .

Now 2 sets of families are worse off.

Not to mention all the mud slinging which will happen.
Oh she was just a dirty whore I shagged once etc etc.

A child turns up at biological dads house. Hmm don't kid yourself thinking dad will actually give a shit.

Newsflash women have sex and sleep around. Shock horror.

I wish I was shocked by the vile, sexist misogyny that some people are spouting on this thread, sadly I'm not.

Scaredycat3000 you sound bitter about the church and your comments reflect this. You don't know Justin Welby and your generalised (not very informed) comments about church are too angry and irrational to be taken seriously.
