This thread has had me laughing out loud. Grin

My (slightly bonkers) Mum is like this with cat food. Enclosed is a picture of the cat food pile with the world's happiest cat.

My DH buys packets of 2 loo rolls on the vanishingly rare occasions he buys any at all. I'd love a loo roll mountain!

I'm not sure confiscating his cards will have an effect for very long - he could just report them lost and arrange to have new ones issued. And if he has them delivered to his bank rather than to home...

If your DH is still buying more loo roll/baked beans or whatever when you have vast quantities already then I'd say he has some form of compulsive buying disorder which can be caused from a whole host underlying issues. If this is a fairly recent trait then something must have triggered it. Is he stressed at work? Anxious about losing his job maybe? Men bottle things up. He mightn't want to burden you thinking you have enough on your plate!

Have you tried talking to him about it? He mightn't know why he does it. Try and persuade him to approach his doctor as they may be able to refer him for some cognitive behaviour therapy which could get to the root of what is causing him to buy in bulk.

I hope you can help him through this x

Don't stop him yet! He has not finished totally insulating/hiding the boiler.

Beckyh I can assure you we don't have money problems. And our businesses are performing well, thank you.

This is just a thread to celebrate general spousal batshittery.

Don't forget this is a man who has to put up with the woman who bakes his babies and turns his toddlers blue and bought a house as an impulse purchase.

Of course he's often stressed Wink

Bakes?!

I meant BALDS!

Ffs, baking babies would be wrong.

You've balded the babies?

I'm not sure balding your babies is the right thing to do either. Grin

Report
paxillin · 06/04/2016 14:16

No, but baking is more frowned upon than balding.

Of course baking babies would be weird - surely the blue would go the wrong shade!

Report
HoneyDragon · 06/04/2016 14:28

I balded one baby by accident with immac.

Turned her blue. Asked for advice on here. Got laughed at. On the plus side, it was a helpful public warning that Peppa pig washable pens, aren't washable.

My loft is currently being provided with extra insulation by my Costco Kirkland toilet paper hoard.

I like stocking up and buying in bulk ...Blush and I always buy at least 2 of anything that doesn't go off in the supermarket - so eg we need mustard - I get two jars. I hate shopping and I think if I buy a lot of stuff I'll only have to do a quick fruit, veg, bread and milk shop...it never works out like that and I forget what I do have.
My dad is the same, started doing the household shopping when he retired and my mum complained about how many tins/packets etc of stuff they had - but recently he's been ill and not up to going and she's been doing it and now they keep running out of stuff...wonder if she'll still be complaining when he is well and going again?
Bulk buying loo roll ...I used to get mine from Lidl (they did reasonable recycled stuff) but didn't get there very often so I one day in a rush I popped in to pick some up - was going to get 3 packets of 12 but 4 were in a big outer bag so decdied that would be easier to carry - got to the till and realised it was 2 layers so I'd picked up 8 x 12 rolls ...the rest of my shop was 2L of milk, a door mat and a loo brush (spotted both in the middle aisle of temptation) - did wonder what the cashier thought...Blush
I am now part of a cooperative - so I buy environmentally friendly cleaning stuff in bulk. I get a huge pack of recycled loo rolls (72 I think it is) every few months and kitchen roll - we don't use a lot - maybe a normal sized roll a month. The only way I could get recycled was from the cooperative - 36 jumbo rolls....
We have an eaves cupboard in the bathroom -so the overflow gets stored in there, out the way... if we ever get mice they will have no problem finding lots of bedding material Grin
Before the cooperative I used to order stuff from a health food shop. I had a chat with the owner about dishwasher powder - wanted to get it in bigger packs that 1kg...he said he'd have to speak to manufacturer etc - anyway a bit of a misunderstanding and he turned up with a massive bag (25kgs or something) - cost £100+ (I was still using the same bag 3+ years later...) and worse it wasn't very good - I used to get a film build up and every so often had to stick a load on with better stuff to get rid of it...

Don't like to worry you Honey but have you seen the Tv advert with a girl, a horse, a deserted beach and loads of toilet rolls?
No sign of pony nuts stocking up?

Not quite the same but I am in charge of stationary ordering at work and I ordered some dividers - I MAY have been pissing about MNing at the same time and the next day 50 boxes (20 sets to a box) instead of 50 units turned up. In my defence someone else was supposed to confirm the order and she didn't notice either Blush

I am using up toner cartridges from 2010. We over ordered somewhat. And kid's toothpaste, I have enough to have another 2 babies and they'd be good for toothpaste until they are 12yo.

My dad does this with toilet roll and beans (and anything really that comes in bulk). I can remember many times when he would come back from a shopping trip, poke his head in the house and ask, "is your mother around?" And then sneak in boxes of toilet roll, jumbo-sized tubs of beans, ketchup, etc.

He's generous with his purchases though and usually prepares a little loo roll care package for me before I head back to my own home. Sometimes he throws in a few boxes of Ziploc baggies. Or food that he's bought it large quantities that he and my mum will never get through. And then justifies all his bulk buying with claims that he's actually shopping for his children.

He's not so generous with his beans though.

Beans! I did that with kidney beans not long ago. My DH said quietly "I think we're good for kidney beans". You can never have too many I said. He showed me 21 tins. You can have too many. Everything but the cakes contained kidney beans for a while,
