So, I work shifts (fine) anti social hours (also fine) sometimes with someone else (fine.) This involves driving.

If I worked at asda 7-11 I wouldn't be expected to pick up my colleagues and drop them off so whys it considered an expectation because the job is car based? Or AIBU?

Surely it all depends on whether you get paid for the pick up times and if it is part of your contract.

Is the car based bit based on 2 of you arriving at a location together? Do you get paid fuel?

And when I worked at asda I did give colleagues a lift!

Ok Sirzy I get that and that was really nice of you.

However, let's say you worked at asda and you HAD to give colleague a lift. Even if that involved you driving in the opposite direction for ten minutes and then driving home yourself.

Do you get paid for the extra driving time and petrol?

If yes, yabu

If no, yanbu

Are you going to answer the other questions so people can possible begin to make an informed judgement?

Was this a condition of your service when you accepted the job? Are you renumerated for these lifts?

'Explain' - I did.

Fuzzy, we do not get paid the extra time, we aren't paid travelling time at all. We are paid fuel - 40p p/m.

Is it based on us arriving at a location together - job involves making visits to different people.

Is it in your job description that you have to provide lifts?

If you are paid fuel including to go and pick up a colleague then j think that's fair enough.

So you're a care worker and you are the driver. You are expected to collect your non driving colleague.

No it's not right, no it wouldn't be expected elsewhere, yes it is usual in that context, no you probably can't change it. Hth.

Is it in your car insurance that you are covered to provide lifts as part of your job ?

I take you're a carer or something similar? If so, who is who expects you to collect and drop off - the colleague or your employer?

If you're paid mileage (and 40p/mile is pretty good) I don't see what the issue is

Clearly I'm not being clear.

Job involves making visits to people, so a typical night might look like this -

18:00 - Mr Jones, 1 Woods Road
18:30 - Mrs Smith, 2 Park Road
19:00 - Mr Brown, 3 High Street

Etc., and might end with

22:30 - Mrs White, 4 Cross Street

Rather than go straight to Mr Jones and then go straight home after Mrs White I have to pick up/drop off co worker which really doesn't feel very fair.

The issue is it adds about forty minutes onto my working day which I'm not paid for.

I hate giving people lifts to and from work, I've made many excuses not to and now they don't ask
It's my only me time where I put music on, sing away and think about all sorts of things. It's a winding down period for me.

If it was part of your contract then yabu, if not yanbu and I'd be having words to either have it paid or no longer have to do it. Just because others don't drive shouldn't mean you have to pick them up, they should get another job if driving is essential.

I don't mind doing it on occasion but I wouldn't want to do it on a regular basis...

You don't have to.

You do have to arrive together at each place. And the most fuel efficient way to do that is go together.

So you could take it in turns?

Bet it's because they don't want to pay both of you for mileage.

You weren't being clear, no. People were trying to find out if you're being paid fuel to pick up the other person. And is it in your contract to do so.
