AIBU to want to buy a new cot because of these spots on dd?

My dd is 5 months she keeps getting marks on her legs. Like pinprick marks and some larger (but still small) bruises.

I posted about a particularly bad lot a few days ago I was sent to a and because it looked like a meningitis rash and was non blanching.

But she has new ones since then plus the slightly larger areas.

She is totally well. The only thing I can think is hat she is somehow knocking her legs on something and the only thing I can think of that it's even possible is the side of our bedside cot?

I am wondering if it would fit?

I have attached the pic I attached to my panicked night time non fading rash post in case it's obvious to everyone but me what is causing this.

Do you think this could be he cot ? Or is it something o haven't even thought of?

AIBU to want to buy a new cot because of these spots on dd?

My dd had the same, changed washing powders and baths etc and never did get to the bottom of it.. Maybe just a normal baby rash? It doesn't look like its from banging her legs off something from the photos. She still gets it now sometimes.

I just thought it must be some sort of injury because it's actually under her skin not her actual skin if that makes sense so it's little cuts/ blood spots underneath her skin which is smooth and unbroken!

Do you have pets? They look like bites to me. My cat dallied with a hedgehog a few years back and ended up bringing fleas home. The bites were similar. Check your legs as well just in case

I should add how often do you bath her? My HV told me to cut down to once a week as I was doing it every night (as I did with her sister). Just to use wetwipes to get into the folds etc inbetween, or if she got herself into a mess then a quick dunk in plain water. She said maybe her skin was just a bit different. Can't really remember if it helped, I don't think I really noticed it much after telling HV. (It was a while ago!).

You could maybe mention it to yours?

I'm sure it's not but just check the cot mattress for bed bugs too (you can pick them up from hotels etc) - they do look a bit like bites

They are def not bites the doctor told us hey were pertichiae? There are no breaks to the skin at all.Grin

A friends DS had a rash like that, which looked like petechia, it turned out to be a kind of excema.

What exactly did they say at the hospital?
How long has this been going on for?
Has she had any recent viral infections?
Did they check her blood counts?
In my opinion this is highly unlikely to be due to trauma

The hospital was VERY busy we saw a doctor who seemed to be either a student or a very new doctor - she asked me if babies had their temps taken in their mouths at 5 monthsHmm
But anyway she said she had a slightly fast heart rate but was otherwise o so we got sent home.

She has had a number of infections in the last few Months, she has been in hospital twice with chest infections, last time was around a month ago. She is always picking things up from our older kids!

The first time we noticed these was about 2 months ago, but only a couple of spots. A few days ago a load appeared on her legs (mainly one but a few on the other). They started fading but today she had a few new ones and some larger ones which look like small bruises.

She had no blood tests or anything.

Maybe go back to A&E? I have no medical training etc, but this could be ITP, which I'd never heard of until my son had a non fading rash and bruising - A&E did bloods and he was admitted overnight and given steroids. They said a fall could have been very serious at that point, but he always seemed completely well in himself.

Ds used to get viral rashes regularly at that age. They looked like that.

Wow, I never heard of ITP either but a quick Google shows that petechia on the lower legs is a symptom!

I am no doctor but that looks very much like my dd. It looks to be like baby eczema. My dd has spots like this everywhere.

Not meaning to be rude but what do you wash her with and how regularly do you use cleAners on your bath/hers if you have a baby bath?

lambeth - i have a doctors appointment wednsday for me i was thinking i would wave her legs at the gp then!

wheres - i am pretty sure its not excema . there is noroughness to the skin, the mrks are just blood spots underneath the skin.
I bath her probably every other day .

Could you get her an appointment with the GP tomorrow? If you say you're worried about your baby's rash I would hope they would see you. If they are petechiae, the doctor should try to work out why she has them (not just send you home, although I appreciate if A&E was busy and she is well in herself then they might have prioritised other people who seemed more unwell). As a PP said, it could be ITP or something else that needs treatment. Please let us know how you get on.

I could try and get her an appointment but she is totally well arm and only has a couple of small areas of marks I'm not sure if it's really an emergency appointment thing Blush

My dd doesn't get raised spots either. She gets petechia which is basically ruptured blood vessels near the skin, for God alone knows what reason her skin constantly itches and comes up in this because she has scratched. It could be that your dd is using the bars on the cot to scratch her legs if they are itchy.

I would stop using all soaps and lotions when bathing her and cut down from every other day to twice a week max as the natural oils will be being washed away.

Make sure you are using decent non bio wash powder and the most gentle of fabric softener if you use it and also make sure that you wash your dd's clothes completely seperated you to everyone else's, wash at 60 degrees and put on a full rinse cycle after you wash to ensure all residue from wash powder and softener is gone - this was told to me by dd's specialist.

If it still doesn't go down then you may need a steroid based cream

We were told ITP was common and usually not at all serious, it was just disconcerting that in his case his platelets had dropped to very low levels so that he did need urgent treatment, and I wouldn't have known from his mood at all. It was the combination of bruising and the rash that made them do bloods.

I was going to say ITP, it looks exactly like when my ds had it including the redness in the creases on her ankle. He has been ill about a week early, not sure if it was related.
If it was a non blanching rash I would want bloods done just to be sure tbh. I took him to the gp and they sent us straight to A&E. I'm really surprised they didn't do bloods when you went.

Thanks where's - would it be worth using some of her cream on her legs to see if that helps do you think?

Lambeth I have tried to take a photo of what it looks like today (the above photo is from a couple of days ago). I had to use the flash and it's totally bleached the colour of her leg but you can sort of see the larger red marks which are darker in real life and even the larger ones are non blanching.
Hopefully you can see what sort of distribution it is (ie I googled non blanching rash and o would have had 15 breakdowns if it looked like any of those!!)

AIBU to want to buy a new cot because of these spots on dd?

Anyway yes it definitely related to the recent viral infection
If it persists then I would consider getting her platelet count checked
The main thing is she is well in herself but I would agree that you should check in with the GP if it doesn't settle

I wouldn't try to actually diagnose from a photo with no training at all. But my son's rash was not extensive - a patch of about an inch wide on his chest plus two spots on his neck. It was picked up because he also had bruises on his lower legs, and the blood tests confirmed it.

As others have said ITP is a possibility along with HSP if it looks more like bruises but both petechial and purpuric rashes can occur after viral infections
