Following on from aibu to take dd3 to a&e

OP posts:
TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 02/04/2016 08:11

I am so sorry to find it's still going on. You poor poor things. Hoping that something starts happening today.

thesortingtwat · 02/04/2016 08:13

randomm great advice.

Heebiejeebie · 02/04/2016 08:15

Put down your pitchforks everyone. All of you shouting 'DO SOMETHING' - what are you suggesting? Surgery? Would that be safer than waiting? and a 2am X-ray? Diagnostic? Or better to think about an MRI? And diagnosing rotted bowel and sepsis - ghoulish. Do you think it is necessarily helpful to the OP or are you getting carried away with the mob?

BumpTheElephant · 02/04/2016 08:15

Op, I hope she is getting the treatment she needs (though probably not after what that wanker doctor said). I find it really distressing that any health professional can leave a small child (or anyone) in that state. You are doing really well op and I hope she gets it sorted out soon. I think I would probably try driving to A and E at a different hospital.

cakeycakeface · 02/04/2016 08:15

What random has just said, and headofhive (at 8.02), is helpful. I am desperate for you to get immediate help, but I am also desperate to know your DD isn't at immediate risk.

StillYummy · 02/04/2016 08:15

Poor little thing. I have never been so invested in somone else's poo before!

skinoncustard · 02/04/2016 08:16

I have followed this from the beginning and cannot believe the catalogue of disaster ,incompetent and uncaring medical 'professionals' ( l use the term loosely ) the OP has had the misfortune to deal with.
My heart goes out to this little girl.
Could your other DC not be left with family/friend / neighbour to allow your DH / DP to be at the hospital with you to help you demand the help you need .
If this is a snapshot of the NHS today then God help us. I pray that this little girl gets help soon, even if it is ONLY constipation she us in distress and it has been allowed to go on far far too long.

CoperCabana · 02/04/2016 08:16

Really good and informative post from Randdom.

emmaleighjacobs · 02/04/2016 08:18

Hope today is the day she is sorted.

NeedACleverNN · 02/04/2016 08:20

What the hell?

I can't believe they would wait until it was an emergency such as sepsis.

This is getting ridiculous.

When this is all sorted please try to find out the complaints process and complain to high hell

Badders123 · 02/04/2016 08:20

The way the Op Abe her child have been treated is disgusting.
The constant even got her age wrong and so has plotted her weight incorrectly!
Say I have seen first-hand how the nhs is going...get as many people possible out over the weekend...who cares if they end up as an emergency admission on Monday!?
I am pretty sure they are not following nice guidelines on this issue either
I would not be leaving until I had a copy of her notes, and had seen the consultant, not some reg or sho who are reading notes that are incorrect (see above)
Ask about the NICE guidelines and ask about pals info
I'm so sorry Op. What an awful time for you.

ivykaty44 · 02/04/2016 08:21

Thanks randdom for the post explaining what can and can't be done, informative post.

As I was also getting curious as to what other posters think can be done immediately - not having any medical knowledge of this type of situation

kelda · 02/04/2016 08:22

I'm glad you are back in hospital. Hope today is better.

Gileswithachainsaw · 02/04/2016 08:24

I actually don't think anyone's getting carried away.

the series if events is unbelievable.

it would be something if they had made an alternate diagnosis but they haven't.

a dr had already assessed her a while back and confirmed pretty much everything people have already posted.

meanwhile op has been lied to (consultant not actually on holiday) and the drs and hospital have gone out if their way to refuse to treat her.

not disagreeing with the possibility something is wrong.

just actively blocking every question and possibility brought up from her and other medical staff

this ceased being about a bit of poo amd bloating a long time ago and there are serious questions that need answering

we just want op to realise she is not nuts here. that she is rightly angry and that even nurses and HV and people witg experience in here have agreed this is all wrong.

Posted from the previous thread, didn't realise there was a new one

Perfumed wind your neck in. I work in the private hospital sector and no hospital would touch this case at this stage. There is very limited private paediatric provision and none on an emergency basis. Private hospitals work on referral basis (not for all cases, but certainly paediatric) and would require a letter of referral from the GP and some history before even booking an elective out-patient appointment.

There are no emergency services as the specialists consult twice weekly/weekly/fortnightly, usually around their NHS clinics. Paediatric specialist nurses are not always on duty as it depends the days that a paed consultant has a clinic. It is not as easy as just turning up at you local BMI/Spire/Nuffield with a credit card and getting gold standard treatment. Whilst wards are staffed overnight with a resident doctor and consultants are on-call, this does not offer the level of service littlemaemae needs just now.

The priority is immediate medical treatment in a paediatric ward. When the impaction has gone and more is known about the cause, this is the time for possible private treatment and to use the private sector. I hope this clears up the common misnomers about private hospital treatment.

All the best Littlemaemae - keep fighting, hope today is a turning point.

Hissy · 02/04/2016 08:27

How are you this morning love? Any news? How is little one?

ItsLikeRainOnYourWeddingDay · 02/04/2016 08:29

Start recording conversations to show them how serious you are. That should worry them into action hopefully. (Tried and tested with a family member)

jarofpickles · 02/04/2016 08:30

Totally second what randdom said. I'm a doctor and some of the concerns raised here are not necessarily helpful to a mum who is understandably very stressed. Her daughter is not septic. Perforation is unlikely, and the risk is there regardless of what method of disimpaction is used. If she had a twisted vowel she would have absolute constipation and not be passing wind etc so that can be ruled out. An abdominal xray really wouldn't add anything. An ultrasound is a totally reasonable thing to push for in the long run but not right now because a) it'll be really uncomfortable and b) there'll be really bad views of things like ovaries because of the overlying poo.

I agree, pushing for admission for support is not unreasonable. And seeing a consultant again would be a good idea. Hoping things get moving today x

Heebiejeebie · 02/04/2016 08:32

Yes - action! There must be action! The secret medicine that always works immediately with no side effects! The one that can only be used after an X-ray in a private hospital.

Shakey15000 · 02/04/2016 08:32

OP, I totally agree with getting a notepad and when anyone says anything, write it down with the date saying "Right so your name is xyz and on abc date you are saying 123 is that correct?"

They will (seemingly) only spur into action when they realise you will not be fobbed off. I know you're trying your best and really hope she gets the care she needs x

Wolpertinger · 02/04/2016 08:33

Very good post from Random

Abdo X-Rays really aren't as informative as a lot of posters on here seem to think so I'm not surprised they aren't keen to do one. Talking about sepsis isn't helpful either as you can't treat or pre-empt sepsis when you haven't got it and the several doctors who have seen OP's child in real life haven't any concerns on this front. They all have the huge avantage we haven't of being there in real life with access to all her notes, plus of course being qualified in their field.

Reading back through the threads OP has had a lot of fobbing off and bad advice about management of constipation up until now - the right treatment has only been in place for a very short period of time - and it will be a long slog to right things as the bowel will have stretched over months. The HCPs she is seeing now are doing the right thing but are understandably getting all the flak as she and her DD are exhausted having had the run around for months.

Ratbagcatbag · 02/04/2016 08:33

Checking in to see how things are this morning. I'm hoping you get a better Dr than the one who said its about patience.

ivykaty44 · 02/04/2016 08:33

jarofpickles informative posts, it great to know that in this case wind is good indicating that the bowel is not twisted.

Bungleboggs · 02/04/2016 08:35

Your poor little girl, wishing you the best of luck x

jobrum · 02/04/2016 08:37

Once this is all sorted and you have dd back at home, happy and comfortable, you could contact yoyr local MP. They can take up causes such as this on your behalf and correspond with the hospital/GP etc.

You must be exhausted Flowers So many people are thinking of you and your dd.
