Shouldn't the name suit the baby?

People unconsciously couple names with emotions/feelings etc via the people they have met, so it's fairly normal to have feelings about certain names and the characters they fit.

Why does it bother you?

Depends I suppose, I've never met any baby who could pull off Nebuchadnezzar, however Jake for example is a fairly innocuous name that'd suit most boys.

I also associate names to colours which isn't unusual at all.

It is small talk. My interest in babies is fairly minimal, but feel obliged to feign an interest in this tiny angry buddha lookalike that has been thrust at me.

A baby is basically a lump of skin, crying and pooing to everyone apart from the vaguely interested people directly related to it.

Once I've done 'gosh it's so cute/how old is it/how heavy is it' I'm really reaching for things to say.

Meh my daughter could be any name really. My son on the other hand had his name picked. The min he came out the first thing we said to each other was, "oh dear he doesn't look like X" and he really didn't.

Definitely babies can look like or unlike their names or suggested names
Some people have their names written a over their faces, whilest. Others never grow into their names.

Not so much looks, but maybe personality. I wanted to call ds2 Ted or Teddy, but we didn't in the end ,and now when I look at him I know that the name we chose suits him much better.

I think newborns look very alike unless they're your own obviously. But when they're very first born and they're all scrunched up and alien-like it's difficult to assign them any sort of real identity. tis true that some babies look more like a certain name than others though. My Nan really wanted to call my dad Matthew, she'd had it planned out from the start and because my uncle also has a 'M' name she thought it was extra cute. But he just didn't suit it and still really wouldn't now so Matthew's his middle name. I personally didn't have a set name for my three, just general ideas. I knew when I looked at them all which they 'suited'. Some people agonise over a name for weeks.

They're all just 'the baby' for a couple of months anyway, at least mine were... "Go see to the baby." "oh god the baby wants feeding again." "Come here baby."

My boys names have a brown redish colour to them, a kind of rusty autumn feel to it.

Some names are fine for children and adults, but for some reason strange when they are babies. For example Gary - baby Gary. Or Ron.

I was always a bit when I used to work in a shop and we had a regular customer who came in with her light-complexioned blonde daughter called Ebony.

It's a strange thing to be annoyed about. Surely it's opinion, some people think babies suit names some don't. I don't know how you can say they don't think a baby suits a name.

Annoyed? Really?

It took me six months to persuade DH to call DD2 one name. As soon as she was born, I realised that name did not suit her at all, and within three hours, she was called something else. No regrets, she definitely is the new name.
