To think if your car hits someone else's car, you should pull over??

I was in slow moving traffic today on an incline, a lady in front of me, maybe 60's, started to roll back... And back... And straight into the front of my car (which is brand new!! Confused)

I've never been hit / hit something before and all I know is that you should pull over...

She drove forward and looked over her shoulder at me, I gestures to pull over, she didn't. The slow moving traffic kept moving. I bibbed her and gestures again and she didn't stop! Some time later she turned off (but not before I took a picture of her plate.)

My car is actually fine. The number plate is loose and the bottom bumper / piece of car is a bit wobbly but my DH said its very easy to rectify and it will be as good as new.

But that's not the point right? She should've pulled over? I admit to bibbing her around 5/6 times throughout the drive and gesturing to her to pull over, but I'm not exactly threatening looking, early 30's mother with two under 5's in the car?

No, you need to go and report her for leaving the scene of an accident, she will get a letter through the post which hopefully will scare the shit out of herSmile glad your car is ok, this happened to me and I'm still left with the scratch and no one's insurance to claim it off as the police are still 'investigating' 2 months on

Someone I know were hit. No obvious damage, superficial scratches. The car was later on written off due to broken axle.
The woman did a hit and run. Hope you have her car reg. Get the car checked in a service and get her insurance pay for everything, even respraying the scratches. She should have stopped.

Some hit DPs car and drove off a few years ago. We were at a pub, so imediately called the police to say we suspected drink driving and he could be a hazard on the road. We then called insurance company, and it took AGES his side to respond... but after a few months and a lot of pestering from our insurer he finally admitted and paid up.

I thought I might be being unreasonable because DH says the car is basically fine, even though she hit me?

Should I still report it then definately?

I agree she should have stopped, but I thought in the eyes of the law you would be to blame for being too close?! Maybe I misunderstood what I read!

It's an offense to bump into someone and drive off. The police will send her a letter with 28 days to respond.

She was at fault for not being in control of her clutch properly.

Report her. I'd hazard a guess that it's not the first time she's done it.

The whole side of my car was stoved in whilst it was parked - and no note or anything. We claimed on our insurance, but then paid higher premiums for several years.

I have a kind of car park outside my house - three times now I've been hit and each time someone -nosy neighbour- has noticed, taken a note of the reg. number, let me know, then the police have come round here, then gone round to the person's house (3 different people) and they've come round to apologise and I've decided not to press charges. My car (at the time) was an old banger with lots of scratches and bumps - might have felt differently if my car was shiny & new!

Report her, please - even more so because she ignored your requests to pull over.

Your difficulty is no witnesses. If you make contact with her via the police she may decide to say you went into her and as you were the car behind you may have trouble proving otherwise. She may claim against you. There was a thread on here last week with someone in this situation and it's not looking good for them.

She was being rude and in the wrong but if your car is more or less ok it might be worth leaving it.

Report her straight away. Under these circumstances, she could report you and claim you went into the back of her. They will believe her sooner than you, if she gets in first.

I was hit by a large motor home coming towards me on the wrong side of the road. He smashed my wing mirror and failed to stop. I turned around and followed him - waving and flashing my lights. He did not stop - rang the police who put a note through his door.

They didn't do anything else - apparently the fact that me and my daughter were hit by someone else didn't warrant taking it further as "it was only your wing mirror smashed". They advised the driver to contact me - he didn't even apologise!! Said that he hadn't know that he had hit me as "motor homes are noisy" Shock

You need to get your car looked at underneath by a garage as there may be damage to the chassis you can't see.

I'm going to go against the grain here- do not report her.

I know a bloke who had this happen once. The person who rolled back into him told his insurance that he got rear ended by the person behind, and ended up suing for whiplash. No witnesses, and it was before the days of dash cams, so victims insurers got stuck paying out Angry

Yes but people do not. I had someone scrap my car badly and drive off, i had to chase him down the road and then he denied scrapping my car. Claim is still being dealt with 3 yrs later even though i have photos of him and police report even though the police did absolutely nothing about it which is probably why people dont stop anymore.
