To ask that you cook a meal

Not a full on three course meal, just dinner for tonight. It will be turkey mince with pasta. Should take about twenty minutes away from the Xbox!
You would think that I had asked that the Nile be parted!! Yes yes I get that you are a teenager and have other things that are so much more important to do than help your mum out on this one occasion!
I came out of hospital three days ago having had a major tummy operation. And didn't fancy/can't stand at the cooker. Aibu?

Order a take away just for you
YADNBU

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 29/03/2016 18:12

Utterly unreasonable - just think of the trauma your poor child will suffer, having to spend a whole 20 minutes cooking! Such heartlessness!

Really - YANBU.

waffilyversati1e · 29/03/2016 18:14

YANBU I insist on my teenager cooking at least once a week and I am in fine health. Its the least they could do for you!

AnnieKenney · 29/03/2016 18:15

No.

Ozwizard · 29/03/2016 18:16

He kicked off massively. At the moment I really am not very well. It's not as if I have asked him to cook a roast dinner from scratch!

whilst yanbu the thought of turkey mince and pasta fills me with horror. Hope you feel better soon.

Vintage45 · 29/03/2016 18:18

YADNBU. But think you may be been a bit of doormat to teen previously?

It's one of his favourite meals as he is a fussy eater. He asked for it in the shopping. I thought that it would be easy for him to cook by himself. He said "why can't you do it, I'm playing with my friends"?. I'm on strong pain killers and feel sky high on them. It is just me and him at home.

I think it's very good practice for parents of teenagers to have the odd entire weekend of vomiting and dia, and have to stay confined to their quarters. Just to see what would happen.
Luckily the teenagers' rooms are downstairs in this house, and we are upstairs with our own bathroom. There is a telly up there too. And the stairs are very creaky, so we'd have good warning of Them approaching, giving us time to hide the Doritos and grab our sick buckets, whilst groaning convincingly.
It would be character building for them.

TotalConfucius · 29/03/2016 18:21

So I say put a timer on the wifi so it disappears at 10pm and go to bed. Ignore.

TVC15 · 29/03/2016 18:22

YABU for expecting anyone to eat turkey mince with pasta.

But YANBU.

yorkshapudding · 29/03/2016 18:23

Order a take away just for you

I second this suggestion. You need to take it easy while you're recovering and your DS needs to learn that you are not his slave.

ilovesooty · 29/03/2016 18:23

Selfish little so and so. Switch the wifi off.

Diamogs · 29/03/2016 18:25

Takeaway for you and turn the wifi off. Selfish little sod. Hope you are feeling better soon

Mistigri · 29/03/2016 18:26

Just make something for yourself (or order a take out) and leave him to feed himself!

Even my 13 year old, who is not that bothered about eating or cooking, manages to heat himself up a meal once a week when I'm out.

Ozwizard · 29/03/2016 18:31

He refuses to eat mince beef and will only eat turkey mince. It will have a sauce with it. His fussy eating is a nightmare. I feel like shit. It's a simple dish to cook! One that I don't have to give him instruction with! Turn off the Wi fi.. That would go down like a lead balloon!!

Are you frightened of him / will he turn violent?

OneLove10 · 29/03/2016 18:52

Yanbu, how did he turn out to be such a horridly selfish person. His mum just had an op and he can't muster up the thoughtfulness to even offer in the first place.

LumelaMme · 29/03/2016 18:55

I second the suggestion that you get yourself a takeaway and he has no wifi and no dinner.

ExtraHotLatteToGo · 29/03/2016 18:59

How old is he? 13 >>>>19?

Either way, I'd be very very upset if my teenager acted like that. Upset & disapponted.

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 29/03/2016 19:01

I made turkey mince and pasta for tea, it was immense ( I didn't eat it).

I think, bearing in mind your recovering from major surgery, you should get a takeaway and put this episode on your shit list.

You don't need the emotional hassle tonight.

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 29/03/2016 19:01
  • you're
Ozwizard · 29/03/2016 19:02

Not frightened of him just can do with out the teen tantrum! I'm laid up on the sofa and don't need to be getting into a discussion with him. I realise the enormity of my op and recovery time. He has been told this so I don't think it's to much to ask him to cook once in a blue moon

OP posts:
yorkshapudding · 29/03/2016 19:03

Turn off the Wi fi.. That would go down like a lead balloon!!

Well, that's the whole point. It's a consequence, he isn't supposed to like it! Unless there's more to this and you're frightened of him/intimidated by him?
