AIBU?

To be utterly brassed off to open new Aways to find they are SCENTED!

I seem to recall another thread about this not long ago - maybe it's still going, I don't know. Anyway - opened a new pack of Always an hour ago, my only pack, only to find they were SCENTED. There was NOTHING on the pack to indicate this and I am SO pissed off! Due to period pain I'm not up to going out again to buy more and will have to do the old fashioned thing tonight and use cloths. I have ONE unscented one left to see me through tomorrow morning.

I am so annoyed about this. I have a Twitter account that I've never used - am even thinking of utilising that to rant about this. Not sure how to go about it as not sure about Twitter.....

There's no way on earth I'm whacking that next to my fanjo.

Bastards.

Agree, bloody horrid itchy things. Am also switching to a mooncup as reoccurring thrush is no fun. I have heavy periods and always was one that didn't leak (have to use a tampon and pad). Never bought Aldi pads, will give them a whirl.

So unscented are
Kotex
Always silk
Lillets
Aldi

Body form? Are they taken over by scent now?

What's wrong with scented?
I've never had a problem with them & think a nice fragrance is actually quite nice.

They give a lot of women thrush and make it obvious you're on your period
Plus they're not clearly labelled as scented

Pink packs of bodyform are scentless.

Well yes, a non scented option should be available.

Sainsburys own brand have no scent.

I've been a loyal Always woman since I was 18 and bought my own pads.... Not any more. The smell is disgusting and I find the suggestion rather revolting: 'Periods are smelly so you should use Always pads and be fragrant' - Sod that. I now use anything that's not scented and am currently using Body Form ones..

Has anyone tried taking them to court for misleading product description? Someone ought to contact Trading Standards and see if there's a case for forcing them to clarify if there are any allergens in their products, or whether the Trade Descriptions Act (or whatever it may have been superseded by) could be used to bring Always into line?

Dontcallus since switching to the mooncup I've found my periods are a lot lighter and also much less painful. I had been told of this rather pleasant side effect but hadn't believed it until I tried it for myself. I used to need super absorbent tampons and a towel as I would flood within 2 hours, with terrible cramps to go with it. I have none of that now and barely notice my period is due. The only warning I get is being a tad emotional the day before (will cry at adverts etc).

I agree though that scented sanitary products is a crime against womanhood. Who wants to smell that your AF has arrived as you wander around with a fanjo smelling of car air freshener??

Always pantliners are by far the best, but I can't stand my knickers smelling like a glade plug in.

Never used their pads, tampon only girl, but the pantliners are perfect for lighter days (and extra security for tampon days)

And absolutely essential when using progesterone pessaries after IVF!!

I shall have to investigate the unscented brands mentioned. Which is a shame as I was a loyal Always customer

I've found Sainbury own brand to be vairable. Their basics range ones are unscented, the standard range still have the "odour control" stuff in some packs.

vairable = variable, my typing is off.

I picked up two boxes of Always pant liners the other day, one said 'scented' the other didn't so I bought them, when I opened them up they were scented too! So what was the point of that??

I have now bought Aldi own brand liners after standing in the shop sniffing all the boxes. They are thankfully, unscented.

Boots Cottons are the most comfortable I have found (and are unscented), but many branches don't stock them. I didn't have time to get to Boots this weekend so spent a good five minutes sniffing my way through the sanpro aisle in waitrose on Saturday. I'm still not convinced I have bought unscented. The smell of the scented ones permeated the whole bloody aisle and made it hard to tell.

Probably the only one who likes the scented pads! I hate the feeling of being dirty when I'm on and I get really paranoid that people can tell I'm on my period so scented pads keep the paranoid feelings away!

Report
eurochick · 28/03/2016 21:40

But surely people will be more likely to be able to tell you have your period when they pick up a waft of eau de mini cab every time you move?Confused

bananafish81 · 28/03/2016 21:43

Are these other non scented brands (thank you for posting the list!) all for sanitary towels? Or are they pantliners as well?

I shall go hunting next time I'm in Boots. Had the 'pleasure' of having to buy pads for the first time since I was 14, as post miscarriage no tampons are allowed. OMG I'd forgotten how much I hated using pads. The technology hasn't come on that much in 20 years - was still like wearing a bloody (liter) nappy. Urgh.

Report
Meeep · 28/03/2016 21:47

I don't know if I have a sensitive nose but I can often now smell when women are wearing sanpro, that sickly sweet fake smell, it's horrid. And I feel embarrassed for them, because I imagine they don't realise they smell!
I never could tell when anyone was on their period before the stuff all became scented.

The pads don't smell that bad, I use the always fresh pads- it reminds of me of fabric conditioner! I just wish pads had a quieter wrapper on them, it's so obvious what you are doing Sad

I've used Bodyform for years, but have to resort to Always if I make an emergency run to the convenience store. The last pack of Always stank like cheap air freshener and gave me horrendous thrush which I'm struggling to shift. Normally I use the nighttime Bodyform, they are fine ( and only 79p in B&M!).

kvilebu · 28/03/2016 21:48

I had a rant about this on the previous thread so I won't repeat it. But interesting to see how many people had thrush after using them. I have had a couple of bouts of thrush since I was tricked into buying scented Always and decided to use up the damn things as I didn't want to waste the money. I thought the thrush was caused by something else but now I think it might well have been the Always as I haven't had it again since I have been more careful when buying (ie. sniffing packs in the shop)
