To be utterly brassed off to open new Aways to find they are SCENTED!

I seem to recall another thread about this not long ago - maybe it's still going, I don't know. Anyway - opened a new pack of Always an hour ago, my only pack, only to find they were SCENTED. There was NOTHING on the pack to indicate this and I am SO pissed off! Due to period pain I'm not up to going out again to buy more and will have to do the old fashioned thing tonight and use cloths. I have ONE unscented one left to see me through tomorrow morning.

I am so annoyed about this. I have a Twitter account that I've never used - am even thinking of utilising that to rant about this. Not sure how to go about it as not sure about Twitter.....

There's no way on earth I'm whacking that next to my fanjo.

Bastards.

Well Raspberry, if they were not selling as well as the non scented varieties, they would not continue to produce them in such large numbers would they? MN isn't representative of every woman in the UK, so I would assume that many people do like them and continue to buy them.

I find it hard to imagine they are liked.

I bet they prey on young girls insecurities. Also as others have said, it's hard to know which ones are scented sometimes, they must make a significant number of sales to people who buy them by accident.

Has anyone thought to link this thread and the other one in an email to Always?

Loads of women talking of pure disgust for their stinky scented products has to count for something, right?

Sacrilege, DrAmanda - how very dare you! Easter Wink

Being serious, though - as DrAmanda proves, some women do like the scented pads - and that's fine. I just wish that the companies would produce some scented and some unscented, so we all had a decent choice.

Email the lot of them lilets, bodyform etc.

Add in links to common causes of bacterial vaginosis and thrush too stating that these products will cause such problems.

I'll be doing it.

I was an always user since they came out. I got a bad reaction to them and will not buy them now. I buy boots own brand now which are really good.

They've been scented for about 4 years now. I'm surprised you haven't come across them yet. They're ok for the first few days of my period then towards the end they make my labia feel paper thin and sore. They never used to do that. I can't use any other brand they're the best protection. Body form and others have resulted in puddles and leakage. I just carry on using them.

And yet despite having a large an varied membership, the number of women who like the scented pads is minimal compared to those who think they stink and give them itching etc in their fanjo.

How strange that MN attracts mostly those women who hate scented pads.

Killbill the pantliners haven't always been scented. Certainly not the last 4 years. I don't know about the pads as I use tampons normally

Until a couple of months ago I used to have a choice between the scented and unscented ones. I always made sure I didn't buy the whiffy ones. Now I have no choice as they've removed the unscented ones from sale

yep, I've also stopped buying them now, because of the damned smelly actipearls. I haven't had thrush, but just cant' stand the smell, and it's stronger than ever now. I threw out a whole box of them recently as I couldnt even go into the bathroom without holding my breath, and they were in the cupboard! It's frustrating, as it's only the pantyliners I need, and the only unscented ones they do are the daily ones that are mini, and no help for me. So I've switched to other brands, trying them out - bodyform, tesco, etc. Sadly none of them is as good as Always used to be, not as long or as wide, which for pantyliners was important for me, and they don't absorb as well, but the smell is too bad to put up with even though they were better in other ways. Loads of people have complained, but they don't listen.

Their twitter account is twee and ridiculous, last time I looked. I don't know if anyone could link anything to it, nor if it would do any good. there was another long thread a few weeks ago about the same thing.

I had this at the weekend, ran out of night time pads. Couldn't get my usual Always ultra night so bought a different pack of always night. Get home and unwrap one and it's bloody scented. I'm going to bed, to sleep, I don't need my fanny to smell fresh for fucks sake. Not that I'm aware my bits have smelt unfresh whilst on my period. had it with some panty liners too, Nothing on the packaging about them being scented. It's so annoying. Seriously considering getting a mooncup.

Perhaps they are all in cahoots with Canesten.

I would recommend cloth sanitary products, I was suffering with recurrent thrush for years and haven't had any since switching. Plus I paid about £30 for my entire stash that should last me years.

Hopefully the menstrual cup industry will do well from this turn of events. Smile

Seriously though, why???? IF your fanny smells bad (which most won't) then the heave-inducing stench of fake-fanny-flowers draped over it won't help.

Report
bananafish81 · 27/03/2016 15:10

I'm lucky enough to not get thrush from them, groaning in sympathy for you ladies

I just object to my knickers smelling like a glade plug in

And other brands of pantliners just aren't a touch on Always

Or at least, they weren't, until Always started making them all smell of 'eau de new car' fragrance

Report
SoupDragon · 27/03/2016 15:12

If you buy in advance and leave them out to air for a few months, they don't smell as bad.

I like to peg them out on my washing line (this is not actually true)

NannyR · 27/03/2016 17:26

I would also recommend cloth pads as a comfy, reliable, non-smelly alternative. I use these ones.

Women buy them because, after all, what else is there on the shelf? There's not a lot of choice for many women, and some form of sanitary protection is a necessity, not a luxury.

I scour the shelves in my local shops and there is very little non-scented (or "odour-controlled" ) stuff available in my town. I have to go with the least worse form available. Don't mistake that for actually liking the scented varieties.

Well, I can say for sure that the ones from Home Bargains are NOT scented. And today I bought three packs for £1.59, normal, ultra and night. Bargain. Also bought some from Aldi and they are not scented either. Pant liners also un-scented. All cheaper than Always anyway.

Will never, ever buy Always again. Bastards.

I use their daily liners, I have found that since I can't buy unscented ones any more I buy in advance and open the packet and use a packet as a kind of pot pourri, after a month when I am ready to use them the scent has worn off :-)

A definitive list of where to get the non smelly ones would be great.

Ill take a crack at it after I've had dinner. Unless anyone else wants too...?
