AIBU?

To be utterly brassed off to open new Aways to find they are SCENTED!

I seem to recall another thread about this not long ago - maybe it's still going, I don't know. Anyway - opened a new pack of Always an hour ago, my only pack, only to find they were SCENTED. There was NOTHING on the pack to indicate this and I am SO pissed off! Due to period pain I'm not up to going out again to buy more and will have to do the old fashioned thing tonight and use cloths. I have ONE unscented one left to see me through tomorrow morning.

I am so annoyed about this. I have a Twitter account that I've never used - am even thinking of utilising that to rant about this. Not sure how to go about it as not sure about Twitter.....

There's no way on earth I'm whacking that next to my fanjo.

Bastards.

I stopped buying Always as they irritated my skin along with the "smell". I switched to sainsbury own brand they are ok and cheaper.

The smell makes me feel sick it's awful. Even worse, at least one of my colleagues uses them and then the horrible airfreshener stench is in the office all day. I don't know how anyone can bring themselves to use the things.

Thinking about that smell makes me sick. It's like advertising you're on. They should be renamed Never

What really boils my piss is that they Always don't even make it clear on the packaging that their products are scented. They just have some bollocks about "odour neutralising something or other" in tiny writing with all the blurb on the back.

It's fucking disingenuous. If they genuinely thought women wanted their fanjos to smell like Febreeze then they would have "SCENTED" in big letters on the front of the packet. Why wouldn't they actively advertise the move to scented if they thought it was a big selling point? The fact that they don't advertise it suggests that they know most women would prefer to be unscented and free of Thrush but they don't give a shit about the needs and opinions of their consumers. Apparently, normal menstrual blood is such an abomination that Always think borderline tricking women into paying for the privilege of having a fanny that reeks like a cheap plug in air freshener and burns with the heat of a thousand suns is justified.

It's ridiculous that you now have to make a conscious effort to hunt for unscented sanpro. The only decent ones I've found are the pink Bodyform ones. If Bodyform follow suit and start dipping their sanpro in buckets of fucking Impulse body spray I will have to organise some sort of protest.

Apologies for the rant but having recently endured a truly hellish bout of Thrush after (accidentally) purchasing this scented shite I (and my poor traumatised foof) feel rather strongly about this issue.

I bought some for DD the other week and I thought I had picked up the wrong pack, then I had a look and no, nothing about them being scented.

Wont be buying Always again until they get rid of this.

YANBU! I've switched to supermarket own brands completely now thanks to Always being sneaky over which of the products are scented Easter Angry. It's far cheaper & I'm less irritated once it's over so it's a win win.

I should say that I usually buy Aldi pads and the girls much prefer them but it was late and I could only get to the local shop.

And the Aldi ones are less than a third of the price of Always, despite being just a good if not better.

I am also one of those 'weirdos' that smells pads in the supermarket... I personally use lil let's pads made for girls- they're a lot smaller so I find them more comfortable to use. Pantyliners are a struggle though to find unscented. And as for scented tampons!! Angry

Morrisons own brand are unscented and do the job!!

SilverDragonfly1 · 27/03/2016 07:47

comfortblankie Superdrug and Wilkinsons both do unscented pantyliners in different shapes (thong etc). And cheap too!

Own brand, Kotex or bodyform here. I always used always as a teenager, bought some a couple of years ago and reacted to them. Had a really sore rash. Never ever again. The scent is gross anyway, far worse than any period blood smells.

This happened to me too yesterday! Opened a pack of what I thought was unscented Always only to find they STINK!

And what happened to the Always that had the little wipe attached? Unscented and useful!!

Eurgh I hate scented Always. I had never in my life had thrush before I used one of their stupid scented pads.

I only ever used Always before they introduced the scent but won't use them again. I've switched to Lillets. I was cross for a long time as I really liked Always silk but the only ones I could ever find were also scented.

Try kotex,.
I don't find them offensive though, or think a man invented them. I always buy scented liners.
I have never had a problem finding non scented pads anywhere, i actually can never find scented ones Confused ( bar liners).

They are revolting. I felt really sore and like I had thrush. Even DP could smell when I was wearing them. Apparently I smelt like magic tree car freshener.

The Asda cheapies are great and unscented. And I'm glad to read that bodyform and lilets are ok too.

Never had thrush from them either.

I do wonder the point of scented tampons though...,Hmm

The whole "feminine hygiene" aisle smelt of them in Sainsburys yesterday. Yuck

Scented tampons must be even worse for the fanjo than scented pads!

Report
SoupDragon · 27/03/2016 08:41

They aren't scented apparently. It's the odour absorbing stuff. And most women they surveyed said they were worried about odour during their period. Apparently. Hmm

I remember standing by a women once and I could tell shewas using an Always product. I bet most women would be mortified by that.

YANBU. They smell revolting too! The smell getting worse when they're used. Like a stinky, cheap car magic tree. I don't know what they were thinking!

I could smell someone changing one in the loos. Maybe we should start a campaign.

YANBU.

I wrote to them about this abomination some time ago and got a wimpy email back about how they 'value my input' and 'are sorry for my disappointment', but that their research indicated scented sanpro is what womankind wants Hmm. They also pointed out that they do still offer unscented products which is true. Problem is most supermarkets don't stock them.
So own-brand supermarket products all the way for me - which I suspect Tesco intended by not stocking non-scented branded pads. Bastards. It's all a conspiracy. Which will be solved soon for me when the menopause strikes Grin

My mum picked me up some pads as I was having a horror period and had run out unexpectedly. She asked what I needed and I said heavy flow, any brand as long as they aren't scented. Bless her she spent ages looking for unscented ones, even asking a shop assistant. The shop assistant told her that as long as it doesn't say 'fresh' or similar on the packaging then they are unscented.

She chose the always as it appeared to be unscented. It says nowhere on the packet that they are scented. They are. They smell like toilet cleaner and gave me an itchy foof. I didn't tell her as she would have been upset.

If someone tries that hard to come away with an unscented product and still ends up with one, the people making it are trying to hide the fact that it is scented.
