AIBU?

AIBU to think that Tesco should still stock Easter eggs on Easter Saturday.....

......rather than clear it all for Passover stuff which isn't for another 3 weeks?

It seems to be getting worse each year. Middle of January was when they first started stocking Easter stuff. I'd only just got the house clear after the mess of Christmas, why would I want to buy Easter stuff then and have to find somewhere to store it all for 2 months.

It boils my piss. There are not even any mini eggs or Lindt bunnies left. All cleared for Passover stuff which is still a few weeks off.

Tesco do know that people want to shop for Easter during Easter bank holiday weekend because they've got the usual traditional food in like lamb and hot cross buns. but their Easter display which they've had for weeks and weeks has been switched to Passover.

Aldi seem to get it right- stock the seasonal stuff a few weeks before and there are usually a few bits left a day or two before the seasonal event. Dunno about the others cos I haven't been anywhere else today.

But tesco......grrrrrr......

Peace our local Waitrose were putting more eggs on the shelves as I left.

Dear Waitrose, they do the right thing Halo

I don't get why people leave it until last minute. I made sure to get mine by Wednesday as I knew they'd only have the shitty ones left that nobody else wants if I left it any later.

The Asda near me had barely anything today, just a few of the dark chocolate luxury eggs and some broken Mars/Rowntree Random ones :(

You obviously have no idea how the grocery market works. They track how much of every product is sold and when they are sold to ensure they get the best balance they can of no stock left versus maximising sales. They will never please everyone.

A few disgruntled (and disorganised) customers are worth nothing in comparison to excess stock. Do you really think a supermarket would deliberately choose not to have your business if they thought it was going to be cost effective to do the opposite?

Obviously. I'm just a customer. Not important. Sorry for having an opinion.

Yabu, why should they be left with a load of stock just because a few people hadn't got theirs before tomorrow?
You may not like seeing stock out early but ut's out because a lot of people like to be organised and buy bits here and there. Some like to be early, others like not buying things all in one go.

I picked up DD's egg a while back - she had not mentioned the Easter Bunny this year and I hoped she'd grown out of it but she came up with a hopeful 'maybe the bunny will bring me a smarties egg' so I went to look in Tesco yesterday and the shelves were almost bare. Sainsburys provided, luckily.

I do get mad when they put them out months in advance and try to buy stuff nearer the time but not last minute. But I can also see why the shops don't want tons of stock left.

I'm with you, Green. There was CLEARLY a need for a few eggs to be on the shelves today, judging by the number of people in the chocolate aisle looking for them. So if they were any good at stock maintenance they would make sure there were still a couple of basic ones till Saturday lunchtime at least. Like others have said, Waitrose can do it. If a supermarket is fed up of people complaining EVERY YEAR then surely this tells them something?! I.e. There IS a need for them the day before the event! Customers don't want to be dictated to as to when to buy stuff. They want to buy when it is convenient for them. Having to find somewhere to store Easter eggs for weeks is not convenient for me. Waiting till the Bank Holiday weekend to shop for, you know, a bank holiday gathering is surely the norm when you have a busy life, and work, rather than if you're a pensioner with plenty of time on their hands to shuffle round supermarkets every couple of days looking for bargains for something weeks in advance.

Having to buy a second pair of swimming trunks for my DS in May in the event that he may lose a pair in December is not Convenient Apparently kids don't need swimming trunks in the winter, according to supermarkets and the likes of Next. Hmm

I could go on and on....

Be honest, the real reason that supermarkets stock their seasonal stuff so early is because they want their shop (shop A) to be the first to offer it, otherwise there is a chance that by the time your supermarket (shop B) stocks it, when the time is more appropriate, a customer has already bought it from shop A and doesn't have need for more. It's purely down to wanting to grab the customer share first.

A lot of customers complain about a lot of things every year. A lot of them are very stupid 'why were you closed on Christmas day, I needed insert random grocery item?!' to give just one example. That's why not every comment a customer makes is actioned in the way they would like.

If a supermarket thought they could successfully screw more cash out of people than they would lose by overstocking, they would do it. Its a balancing act. Waitrose are different, but then, like many have said on here, plenty of supermarkets still have loads of Easter Eggs today. Its not as though they've planned to run out just to piss you off.

captain and I needed a new pair of swimming trunks for DS in November but none of the shops had any because people don't go swimming in the autumn.
Online shopping saved the day because we don't have any sports shops in our town. Ditto when he needed a pair of shorts and t-shirt to wear on the pool side.

Yep same here.

Went to tesco for eggs today and none to be had.

And shopping for Easter eggs on Easter Saturday isn't disorganized! It's absolutely when you should be buying items you will need on Easter Sunday!!

You will only have a Passover aisle in a Tesco near a Jewish community. Passover - otherwise known as pesach- begins in just under a month and we eat different foods to normal hence why Tesco stick those foods

Im doing SW so there is no way i could have bought one but the Sainsburys Taste the Difference Swiss chocolate bunnies flew off the shelves.

Has anyone here bought one and what do they taste like.?

I bought one of their smaller 80p eggs

Another non-uker here. Our supermarket keeps the easter eggs up until mother's day in May, they dont reduce the extortionate price of them either. We dont have passover stuff, what do they sell for passover anyway?

Like OddBoots, it's not Easter Saturday. Easter only happens when the Sunday arrives.

It's Holy Saturday or Easter Eve (like Christmas Eve).

Our local supermarket had plenty of Easter chocolate left but we're in a small rural area.

I was in Morrisons yesterday at 6pm and there was nearly a riot as they had cleared all the eggs away and were starting to bring out different stuff to go on the shelves but there were loads of people still trying to buy eggsHmm. I don't get it especially as they put the eggs out so bloody early. Why not leave them there until Monday when Easter is actually over.

I was in Waitrose, Sainsbury, Tesco and Lidl yesterday between 2-4 (fun times!). All three were full of Easter Eggs and sweets; nothing reduced.

JeVoudrais You and my husband would get on really well. He posts opening times for Easter and Christmas and New Year in the window about two weeks in advance.

Every year he gets people saying: 'Aren't you open on Good Friday? I want to come in.' Oh, sorry about that. Sorry to interfere with your plans, but we have plans to go out Grin

He doesn't open on Christmas Eve either because all those people for whom Christmas comes as a complete surprise every year, panic-buy presents which invariably come back. And when you do eventually close, you get people banging on the window mouthing: 'I'll only be five minutes.'

When he worked in places that were open on xmas eve, people would ask if the recipient could return it, meaning they knew full well it was unsuitable but they didn't want their loved one realising they hadn't thought of them until the 11th hour.

He says you might as well have a revolving door for these people, because the first week of the new year is like a hostage exchange but with presents.

I went shopping Thursday to get ours, hit asda and tesco with no joy they only mostly had the big expensive ones and ones that come with mugs which are useless for children anyway! Plus I have a picky sd and she only likes cadburys caramel, peanut m and m and twix (which by the way never do an Easter egg!!)
Ended up getting what I needed in my little coop, then kicked myself because went yesterday to our local shops to get something for tea and we have a little sainsburys local and they had loads all at £3 each and all the cream eggs and mini eggs were reduced so brought even more lol can't resist when they're reduced! May also have brought myself and dp and egg also as hadn't bothered before lol

Contrary tp popular belief supermarket chains do not exist to provide a public service.

our tesco always clear the shelves so there are none left sat, i think they're missing a trick as so many people wait until the last minute to buy the eggs.

I must be the only one on the side of the supermarkets here.
They surely can't be expected to keep full stock of eggs until Easter Sunday surely. Then what would they do with them?
Granted I'm not too worried about the pockets of Tesco but about the amount of waste.
