AIBU to think that Tesco should still stock Easter eggs on Easter Saturday.....

......rather than clear it all for Passover stuff which isn't for another 3 weeks?

It seems to be getting worse each year. Middle of January was when they first started stocking Easter stuff. I'd only just got the house clear after the mess of Christmas, why would I want to buy Easter stuff then and have to find somewhere to store it all for 2 months.

It boils my piss. There are not even any mini eggs or Lindt bunnies left. All cleared for Passover stuff which is still a few weeks off.

Tesco do know that people want to shop for Easter during Easter bank holiday weekend because they've got the usual traditional food in like lamb and hot cross buns. but their Easter display which they've had for weeks and weeks has been switched to Passover.

Aldi seem to get it right- stock the seasonal stuff a few weeks before and there are usually a few bits left a day or two before the seasonal event. Dunno about the others cos I haven't been anywhere else today.

But tesco......grrrrrr......

(Normally the kids get the grape juice, but I am happy to class myself as a kid to avoid necking the Kosher wine. It is minging)

Sallyhasleftthebuilding · 26/03/2016 16:07

None in Tesco by me - other than the very expensive ones

4 weeks ago they were £2 each then 3 for £10 and last week £4 each for the same sized egg -

Pays to buy early (made that mistake once)

Why can't they just be "A price?"

SpringerS · 26/03/2016 16:16

It's not like they take the eggs away. They sell out. I worked in a supermarket during college and for days beforehand the managers would be on the phone around the clock shifting eggs from stores that had an oversupply to those which were running out/had already run out. The abuse we would get on Easter Saturday was unreal. Especially come about 3-4pm when almost every last bar of chocolate was cleared out. I remember one year a woman screaming at one of my colleagues as she left work as she had Easter eggs in her grocery bag that she had bought before her shift. The customer was livid that the poor girl wouldn't give them to her and was screaming that she'd 'have her job.' Nasty.

MrsJayy · 26/03/2016 16:21

My Dd used to work in a supermarket last year she saw a fight over eggs

ClarenceTheLion · 26/03/2016 16:22

My local Sainsbury's had loads of Creme Eggs and Creme Egg Easter eggs but nothing else. I assume that's because everyone knows how vile they are these days.

PeaceLoveAndJaffaCakes · 26/03/2016 16:27

I was initially surprised at a Passover aisle, but then I remembered I live in a town with an enormous Muslim population and we have Eid displays in supermarkets. It's nice to see such diversity and inclusivity.
But seriously, Waitrose was stuffed to the gills with Easter shite this afternoon.

The Kosher for passover coke and ketchup gets the mark up because the Beth Din (basically the Kosher police) have inspected the production and confirmed that there was no contamination with anything non-kosher for passover

I love the idea that the Kosher police have gone to the Yorkshire tea factory, looked it up and down and said 'aye' before giving their stamp.

Walkacrossthesand · 26/03/2016 17:12

I remember, in the days of Woolies, Easter Monday included a trip there to pick up a couple of half price left over eggs - there were always loads. Mind you, in those days it was unthinkable to eat an Easter egg before Easter Day - now, the impression I form is that they are more like a seasonal delicacy , consumed from when they hit the shops in Jan/feb, with one final surge of demand on Easter saturday. How times change...

bananafish81 · 26/03/2016 17:13

pipbin it is literally that ridiculous. I have a lovely mental image of the Kosher police in full orthodox black coat regalia with big beards, and instead of the traditional black hats they normally wear, they've all got flat caps on Grin

I've been to Tesco, asda and sainsburys today (I'm not a supermarket freak I promise, just been hunting for a mug tree) and all of them have had loads of eggs left!

CurlyhairedAssassin · 26/03/2016 17:24

Walkscross, I think you might have hit the nail on the head. People could well be buying them early and eating them these days instead of giving them as presents! I just don't remember this happening years ago and also remember discounted eggs after Easter Sunday. maybe some parts of the country are greedier with their eggs than others!

Thanks for the explanation about the grape juice. I've learned something there, always wondered about it!

our tesco had loads this morning. maybe everyone here has left it to the last minute.

GooodMythicalMorning · 26/03/2016 17:32

oor been extremely organised

trufflesnout · 26/03/2016 17:34

Kosher wine is disgusting - think slightly alcoholic vimto but less nice

snigger - I love coming across other non-jewish Jews!

Owllady · 26/03/2016 17:36

It has always been the same. When I used to work for Woolworths, we'd always sell out early in the Saturday. It was unusual to have any left by the afternoon

CamboricumMinor · 26/03/2016 17:38

Wish me luck, I am going out to try and buy an easter egg...

kitnkaboodle · 26/03/2016 17:39

YANBU. They should also stock mince pies between Christmas and New Year (ie that period I like to call ... Christmas!)

bananafish81 · 26/03/2016 17:40

trufflesnout yep our family Seder is decidedly irreligious

Everyone is on a different page, we're all whinging 'when do we get to eat the eggs?', we squabble over who is the wicked son / simple son, someone always giggles when talking about freeing from bondage, and everyone gives up on how many cups one is supposed to have drunk and just starts necking them

As I said up thread - they tried to kill us,let's eat!! Grin

CurlyhairedAssassin · 26/03/2016 17:41

You're right, Kit. And chocolate Yule logs.

Our Tesco looks like a tornado hit it in the Easter section, or what's left of it! Even yesterday on Good Friday, barely any eggs left.

TheRealBarenziah · 26/03/2016 17:48

This is a great thread - not only have I learned more about Passover, but I've discovered two other posters who must live very close to my stomping grounds... waves at buddah and curly

WhoTheFuckIsSimon · 26/03/2016 17:55

No Easter eggs near me and it's been like this for years. 10 years ago you could guarantee the week after Easter Sunday you could buy loads of Easter eggs for pence. Now they sell out the week before.

Have to say that Passover powdered chicken soup looks a bit grim.

I'm very disappointed that I don't live in a Jewish area and we have no Passover food in the shops. I wonder if my new Jewish oven knows it's nearly Passover.....I hope it doesn't go on strike for a week!

HelenaDove · 26/03/2016 18:02

Was in my local Sainsburys on Thursday and there were quite a few eggs left but most of them were Cadbury. And they were putting loads more Cadbury ones out.

There was also a big display of their 80p ones. My local Tesco was practically picked clean of eggs on Thursday All they had left was those small packs of those Maltesers mini bunnies.

Mousefinkle · 26/03/2016 18:03

I went in on Wednesday morning to get mine at about 9:30, shelves were piled high. Realised I'd forgotten something so went back in at midday, the shelves were almost bare in places Shock. On a Wednesday morning! Just been in today, sooo glad I didn't leave it until today. They had one tiny section left with green and blacks eggs.

My friend worked the Easter egg section of a supermarket last year and said he was baffled by how many people gave him grief over the fact they didn't have many left. Like its the DAY BEFORE EASTER, of course they're going to be almost gone.

angielou123 · 26/03/2016 18:05

I went to my local Tesco yesterday and they had a tiny section of shelf with a few of the same eggs on and some cardboard baskets, thats it. They should be stocked until the day after events I think for all us last minute shoppers! It's like trying to buy a pumpkin on halloween, can't be done.
