AIBU to think that Tesco should still stock Easter eggs on Easter Saturday.....

......rather than clear it all for Passover stuff which isn't for another 3 weeks?

It seems to be getting worse each year. Middle of January was when they first started stocking Easter stuff. I'd only just got the house clear after the mess of Christmas, why would I want to buy Easter stuff then and have to find somewhere to store it all for 2 months.

It boils my piss. There are not even any mini eggs or Lindt bunnies left. All cleared for Passover stuff which is still a few weeks off.

Tesco do know that people want to shop for Easter during Easter bank holiday weekend because they've got the usual traditional food in like lamb and hot cross buns. but their Easter display which they've had for weeks and weeks has been switched to Passover.

Aldi seem to get it right- stock the seasonal stuff a few weeks before and there are usually a few bits left a day or two before the seasonal event. Dunno about the others cos I haven't been anywhere else today.

But tesco......grrrrrr......

I was feeling quite smug about buying big, boxed Easter eggs weeks ago when they were £2 each, and then watching the prices climb up towards the £5 mark.

...until I remembered I was visiting family for Easter and would have to take huge boxes that are 90% air 8% cardboard and 2% chocolate on the train. One whole wheely suitcase was basically taken up by four not-that-impressive easter eggs, with just about room for a few socks and my pyjamas.

rosy71 · 26/03/2016 18:11

I have just been in our local Tesco & there were still Easter eggs there, although the shelves were looking very bare.

ExploraDora · 26/03/2016 18:15

Just Marmite flavoured ones left in my local ASDA, you were correct Tunnock! There was a stressed looking middle aged man on his mobile holding one and telling the person on the other end of the line 'It's all they have left, what can I do??!'. I thought he was going to hug me when I told him they had some eggs left in Tescos round the corner Grin

Lovewatchingrainfall · 26/03/2016 18:18

i was totally the same today! I went to 3 big supermarkets so, Asda, Sainsbury and tesco and nothing not even a packet of mini eggs. OH will be going without tomorrow it seems.

pambeesley · 26/03/2016 18:20

I managed to get some from Thorntons. Not loads left but still some choice.

DaftLemon · 26/03/2016 18:22

This gets me too. Supermarkets are months ahead with everything but once the day has arrived (whatever the 3 month build up is in aid of). You are buggered.

School uniforms is my bug bear. Winter uniform start hitting the shelves in May. Try buying any school item mid August onwards - when you know it might still fit your child - ha bloody ha - they laugh in your face and tell you to fuck off cos by then the useless halloween and Xmas shite is hitting the shelves!!

MyLocal · 26/03/2016 18:40

Well it must depend on the areas you live in, there were a few Easter eggs in Asda this afternoon but the display was still there, just a bit bare. There was NO Passover food at all, but it is in an Asian and Caribbean area. Supermarkets stock products meet their customers needs. As for not being able to get Christmas wrapping paper mentioned by a pp ??? I buy all mine after Christmas, cheap, never ever had an issue.

MrsSchadenfreude · 26/03/2016 18:50

You can get really good kosher wine, you don't have to drink that Palwins shit. A nice white Yarden from the Golan hits the spot. And when I lived in Paris, in a very Jewish area, there were kosher cavistes where you could buy kosher French wine from Bordeaux etc.

HelenaDove · 26/03/2016 18:54

The school uniform thing is monumentally stupid. Dont they realise that kids grow.

bananafish81 · 26/03/2016 19:09

MrsSchadenfreude but but but it's the law that kiddush wine has to taste like benylin Wink

That Palwins shit is absolutely vile tis true

MrsMook · 26/03/2016 19:22

I asked DH to buy Easter Eggs mid-week before stocks were running low, and he didn't. Easter Hmm

My usual supermarket had run out during yesterday evening/ this morning. There weren't any others on the retail park that were particularly suitable for younger children. (Fancy truffles would not be appreciated!) I got lucky at a small community supermarket as I was on the way to a large superstore.

I hadn't had chance to buy them sooner because of being accompanied by said young children who don't miss a trick.

HelenaDove · 26/03/2016 19:26

Well in that case Mrs Mook he should have done the running around today instead of you.

Summerisle1 · 26/03/2016 19:29

I bought our Easter eggs on Thursday (with the exception of one for the Prodigal DS1 who only announced his arrival back for Easter yesterday!) but there were plenty at Waitrose this afternoon. Although this did include the Quality Street egg that had clearly been raided at some point and the entire egg eaten through the tiny little 'viewing window' in the box!!

However, our local branch of Tesco is notoriously shit about seasonal products and routinely clear all signs of Easter (and indeed Christmas) away as soon as possible - this always being at least 2 days before the event in question. So nobody ever depends upon them for Easter eggs. Unless they plan to offer an apology rather than an egg.

VashtaNerada · 26/03/2016 19:34

This drives me mad too Angry There must be so many people wanting to buy eggs today. When I was little we used to buy our eggs just after Easter because they'd be reduced and we'd get lovely expensive ones Grin
Same goes for clothes. Every bloody year I try to buy summer clothes in summer or winter clothes in winter and they've all sold out. You have to be the world's most organised person, buying everything a season early. It's ridiculous.

CamboricumMinor · 26/03/2016 19:51

Easter egg for Dad purchased and delivered...sadly at full price but never mind. They were reducing all the hot cross buns but not the eggs.

nobeer · 26/03/2016 19:51

Our tesco had very little left around 4pm. Lindt Easter selection boxes or a cheese and onion crisp flavoured chocolate egg. Guess which I bought.

notamummy10 · 26/03/2016 19:58

I've never seen Tesco stock Passover products before? I guess it's a regional thing.

My guess is because they are closed tomorrow, they are needing to get rid of the stock asap. Majority of supermarkets started reducing the Easter stock on Thursday, I went to my local Sainsbury's this afternoon and all they had were the Easter snacks- Creme Eggs, Mini Eggs, Malteaster bunnies etc but no Easter eggs.

JeVoudrais · 26/03/2016 20:12

Believe it or not, it's not actually business savvy to have shit loads of Easter eggs left by Easter Sunday and having to sell them for sod all.

If only people could do their shopping without a massive scrum the day before. Then people like my DP might have an easier life/less moaning like this for doing his job well (retail manager). He is also one of the poor sods working all day Easter Sunday just in case you've forgotten your mint sauce.

If he's lucky, he will get four hours sleep tonight before he goes in tomorrow. Won't be any fuel left in the tank to switch things around by Tuesday.

thebestfurchinchilla · 26/03/2016 20:14

Passover stuff?

Peaceandloveeveryone · 26/03/2016 20:15

Just got back from waitrose, lots there still and they shut at 8pm.

captainfarrell · 26/03/2016 20:17

I can't stand the seasonal shop thing. I needed a new dressing gown for my DD in May and could not get one anywhere because apparently we don't wear them unless it's winter. Are we not living on Britain, the place where it barely gets above18c for 340 days a year?

captainfarrell · 26/03/2016 20:18

No wonder online shopping is taking over!

green18 · 26/03/2016 20:21

I got 4 in small 'One-stop' local shop today. They had lots, 2 for £5 for a medium sized and 2 for £ 3.00 for small smarties eggs. Avoid the big supermarkets.

LynetteScavo · 26/03/2016 20:23

But it's not good for shops to overstock and have stuff left....they should be able to calculate roughly how many eggs each store needs to gave enough, but not be left with shelves of eggs they have to heavily reduce.

You should know this, and buy your eggs before today.Easter Wink

I got all excited and curious about what Passover stuff might be, then a bit disappointed to discover it's mostly crackers...Easter Grin

green18 · 26/03/2016 20:38

It might not be good for shops but it's not good customer service 9which is good for business) either!
