To ask why you hide a thread or a whole board?

Just that really.

It's never occurred to me to hide a whole board/topic as for me they always show up in Active regardless. I'm not meaning to start a TAAT but rather one inspired by one if that passes. But anyway if you hide threads why do you do it? And if you hide entire topics... why? Outside of Chat and AIBU, I really fail to see where the rest of the traffic goes [confuded]

OP posts:

I've hidden all baby, cat and dog topics.

I then hide clique threads and any with disgusting titles.

Then any that I've commented on but lost interest in, as I don't want them in 'I'm on'.

I hid the fisting one.

alltouchedout · 21/03/2016 16:31

I hide feminism to stop myself getting infuriated by the transphobic nastiness that prevails there. I wish I didn't have to but it's not worth what it does to my mood.

exexpat · 21/03/2016 16:38

I've hidden all the usual pregnancy/conception/antenatal/pushchair/childcare etc topics - no interest whatsoever (I have teenagers).

I also tend to hide long-running cliquey threads (ninjas/wavers/crepeys/Archers fans etc) that get a lot of traffic.

And threads with spelling and grammatical errors in the headers which make me cringe every time I see them, or ones where I take one look and can see it turning into the same bunfight that has been done umpteen times already.

because threads get really boring sometimes

IoraRua · 21/03/2016 16:46

I dont have any forums hidden, though I probably should. I ignore most threads from certain topics (like feminism, childcare, sleb twaddle) - but I like to be able to poke through forums every now and again if a title looks interesting.

jeavcike · 21/03/2016 16:47

How do you hide topics please?

exexpat · 21/03/2016 16:52

To hide topics: click on little arrow in circle next to 'talk' at top of page; click 'customise', go to bottom of page and follow instructions under 'manage hidden topics and threads'.

Sgtmajormummy · 21/03/2016 16:52

I hide anything to do with Brexit as I'm strongly, firmly and convincedly in favour of a united Europe.

Samcro · 21/03/2016 16:54

i hide threads if the title is a bit yuck. or if the thread is annoying me.
I have a lot of topics hidden, some because they hold no interest to me, others because the subject matter is ypsetting

SqueegyBeckinheim · 21/03/2016 17:02

I hid the Fisting one,. I read the OP, wished I hadn't, 😱 and promptly hid the thread.

I keep thinking I should hide all the pregnancy and birth ones, I'm well past that stage of my life now and I'm just not interested in those issues anymore.

NuggetofPurestGreen · 21/03/2016 17:07

I've hidden the sex topic after the fisting thread. For the pp who asked it was very descriptive

Also hid conception cos I hate the thread titles on the JS threads.

jeavcike · 21/03/2016 17:08

Thank you exexpat Flowers

RortyCrankle · 21/03/2016 17:27

I've never hiddden anything - there are lots of topics in which I have no interest so I don't click on them.

However, I wish we could hide individual posters.

NotCitrus · 21/03/2016 17:29

I've hidden all the baby/pregnancy/ttc topics, Relationships, bereavement. And ones of no interest like dog and cat care, adoption/fostering, etc. I end up hiding almost all threads on trans issues because they just wind me up, and some of the feminist topics but not others.

And I hide AIBU but go there when I really want to waste some time!

DaphneWhitethigh · 21/03/2016 17:34

I've never hidden anything but if I could be bothered I'd hide antenatal clubs just because it's the one topic I know I'd never ever post on but which does normally have a thread or two in Active, so hiding it would give me one extra Active thread to choose from.

Sparklingbrook · 21/03/2016 17:37

They don't show in your Active if you hide them but they do still show in Trending.

I have all topics hidden bar 10 as I have no interest in them. I have teens so have all the pregnancy baby stuff hidden, no interest in any pets except for cats, no qualifications to assist in General health or Relationships

Why would you not use the function? Confused

SirChenjin · 21/03/2016 17:38

I've hidden a few - one because I was getting far too wound up by the politics and the other because it was the same old navel gazing.

Sparklingbrook · 21/03/2016 17:41

Hiding individual threads is a brilliant option. Yesterday I found that I can hide them without even opening them Smile

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 21/03/2016 17:41

I've hidden feminism. Can't stand the strident posters on there, really winds me up.

Sparklingbrook · 21/03/2016 17:56

Oh yes Through me too.

cbigs · 21/03/2016 17:57

I am genuinely surprised how many hid the fisting thread... I totally get not wanting to read it or join in but to hide a topic or thread based on the title ... Dunno just really surprised me the reaction it got..

SirChenjin · 21/03/2016 18:01

Yep - that's one of my hidden threads too Through Grin

SenecaFalls · 21/03/2016 18:05

I have Baby Names hidden because it's the best way to avoid the highly offensive term "trailer trash." I have Christmas hidden because it's boring.

Sparklingbrook · 21/03/2016 18:20

Baby Names also has the word 'sibset' which is a good reason to hide it.
