to allow my ds the day off next Thursday

It's end of term reward trip to Thorpe park. Ds received letter saying he qualified to go. We had to send in reply slip, then names were pulled out of hat, they didn't have enough tickets for all.
So ds is not on the trip, and was naturally upset. Unfortunately all his friends were laughing at him which made it worse. The kids not going go to school as usual. He also has to go to school this Saturday for a science ca.

He says he's not going in next Thursday. I'm inclined to agree with him, but on the other hand am I giving out the wrong message?

I've already emailed school, asking why they do it like that. Surely it isn't difficult to just send offers for the amount of places they have, then start dishing out reserve places.

Schools run on tight budgets. Ours, for example, could only afford a coach for X number. If more than X qualify, then there has to be some way of deciding.

I can't see how fairer it is with first come first served.. Our local comp has lots of children arrive on buses .. Some children ate dropped by parents, some walk.. So actually the people buses in can only arrive at a time set by the bus timetable..
So the children on last bus will always have the disadvantage.

Well okay Bertrand, staying at home and eating worms Although I think actually that saying the whole trip thing was never fair in the first place once you can't have it does count as the proper meaning of sour grapes and as I've put this in strike through my pedantry is acceptable

Grin

Strike-through is the pedant's version of hazard flashers rendering your car invisible on double yellow lines...........

But if it's first come first served the first child to get into class is going to be first in the queue, surely? And some parents can get their child there that little bit early- some can't.

And if the money is required, say, on a Thursday, people who get paid on Friday may well not have the money to hand at that stage in the week.

How can you porribky think it's fairer than a draw?

starry0ne · 17/03/2016 21:29

We at primary ..Have first come first served for after school club..If it is an activity my DS really wants to do he gives me the sheet on the playground at hometime and takes it to the office..Many children are at c.minders, after school club ..Do I think it is fair no.. Despite my DS always getting a place.. I think a draw would be fairer..

Let him stay off. It'll be shit anyway, it always is with school. Everytime I went with school/college, there were other schools there too so every ride had a huge queue - you don't get unlimited time like you would if you went for a family trip, they'll probably get about 4 hours in there. It's not worth it.
