To actually be happy that I was right about a troll

Reported my first thread which was becoming more unbelievable, and was indeed a troll. Usually these things go over my head completely!

OP posts:
Maudofallhopefulness · 17/03/2016 11:57

I am the shittest troll hunter ever. I never spot them but then again I never really get emotionally involved with threads either. Maybe I lack empathy. It all gets a bit 'blah, blah, blah meh'.

Emptynestx2 · 17/03/2016 12:08

I don't get it - what do they have to gain from it?

wonkylampshade · 17/03/2016 12:17

The one in childbirth last night was dark - I know lots of posters might disagree but I think people like that particular poster warrant reporting beyond the confines of MN.

wonkylampshade · 17/03/2016 12:19

And usually I'm crap at spotting them too, but I've noticed a fair few threads being started about child abuse lately.

The OPs are clearly looking for some titillation and inviting other posters to share experiences and dialogue they find sexually exciting. It's absolutely abhorrent.

KatsutheClockworkOctopus · 17/03/2016 12:20

There's been several recently (in AIBU and Relationships mainly) where someone posts about a horrible, usually cheating, DH. Based on info in the OP, the posters agree that the DH is indeed a cheaty git. The OP then accuses everyone of being a viper who wants to break up her relationship and disappears. Those ones make me a bit Hmm

NotNob · 17/03/2016 12:21

The one in Childbirth last night was my first report. Felt very uncomfortable to read.

OliviaStabler · 17/03/2016 12:30

I genuinely believed the friend with cancer one Sad

TheWildRumpyPumpus · 17/03/2016 12:33

Dang I missed the wife reveal - sounds like a good one!

HeyNonnyMaybe · 17/03/2016 12:34

The transgender three year old poster was a troll? I should keep up more, I have a tendency to drift off threads and never find out what happens.

DontBuyANewMumCashmere · 17/03/2016 12:40

I posted on cancer one too. What a twat.

Also I saw the girlfriend hospital one but didn't see him having a wife.

Tbh now I read a post and if the OP has a number in their name I already assume they're a troll. awful trolldar, unfair screening but I need some kind of system to stop getting suckered in

DontBuyANewMumCashmere · 17/03/2016 12:41

Actually the cancer OP didn't have a number, that's why I posted.
My system doesn't even work. Ffs.

Strokethefurrywall · 17/03/2016 12:44

I don't believe half the shit on here these days. If I suspect a troll I don't even bother reporting or commenting.
Didn't even bother with the notorcyclists girlfriend one because it was fucking boring and the one in childbirth made me Hmm and move on.
The abusive partner one who blamed herself for her partner having an affair one was either a troll or a cunt so I felt justified in commenting on that one.

PageStillNotFound404 · 17/03/2016 12:48

Cashmere in case I ever start a thread, can I point out my "numbers" are a reference to the error message code you get when a webpage can't be found and not a troll indicator!

Dfg15 · 17/03/2016 12:50

My name has a number and I'm not a troll honestly I'm not ! Just not very imaginative with user names

hilbil21 · 17/03/2016 12:50

How do MN know its a troll?

SirChenjin · 17/03/2016 12:51

Mad - I actually PM'ed you to say well done, and that I totally agreed with you, and then deleted it because it looked weirdy stalkery Grin

I'm believing fewer and fewer posts on here.

Fauchelevent · 17/03/2016 12:51

The thing with some of the really dark ones is that - I mean of course all trolls impact posters - but the very dark ones are going to have such an impact on MNers. Genuine posters will no longer be trusted and even so, it will no longer be safe let alone comfortable for them to ask for advice. They'll always have the fear of those shady characters.

It's disgraceful and sick. I do think though with that kind of thing, posters asking for similar experiences are the ones to be weary of. Why ask for similar experiences in that situation?

DontBuyANewMumCashmere · 17/03/2016 12:56

page and dfg I know that not all numbered usernames are trolls, sorry.

I think what I meant is that if an op looks dodge and then the op has a number and my apalling trolldar pings then I'll assume it's a troll and won't bother posting. I don't report every username with a number in it.

Sorry to sound so discriminatory Blush

MinniedeMinx · 17/03/2016 13:03

I got one once! I vote for the idea we get a kill sticker for each one.

PurpleDaisies · 17/03/2016 13:24

The vegetable thread is still alive and well..,it just popped up on active.

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 17/03/2016 13:41

The one in childbirth last night was dark

what happended

Millionsmom · 17/03/2016 13:54

AAAH I thought the childbirth one was dodgy - I'm pleased it wasn't true tbh. How sick an individual are you to even come up with these stories? Especially an abusive story.

There were a few last night, but I thought I was being an old cynic.
Pleased just to be old now Grin

feellikeahugefailure · 17/03/2016 14:17

I can't find the vegetable thread, can someone link to it?

PurpleDaisies · 17/03/2016 14:18

ouryve · 17/03/2016 14:21

i found it hard to take any thread seriously, last night. It was bonkers.
