I'm not sure Cheryl got thrown into fame overnight. It was something she was working towards. I read she'd just finished touring as a supporting act to a British boyband of the time when she auditioned for Popstars. And they weren't in the news until Cheryl got into a fight a few weeks into being in the group. That was self-inflicted.

It was Nicole I felt sorry for. 16 years old and being called ugly by grown men in the media...

And the Cumberbatch stuff IS crazy. I think some of his 'fans' are genuinely mentally ill. The identity of his wife can change in the same paragraph - she's a gold-digger, a courtesan, a terrorist, a blackmailer, a spy, a hypnotist! What they believe is that she forced Benedict to marry her and pretend to father a child with her against his will. They think the child is being hidden from them because he's a doll and photoshopped to look real in photos. I don't think it occurs to them that they hide his face to protect him from them!
